Im a huge Robinson fan and he is an all time great and possibly the best league to union convert ever, but full back is a position about angles for defence just as much as attack, Howlett being the lethal finisher that he is got his correct and Robinson on this occasion was caught only ever so slightly out of position and hence was made to look slower than Howlett who produced a finish that the great Billy Whiz himself would be proud of.

Robinson was destroyed in that little test of speed, the fact is doug howlett would smoke him because of the top end speed he has, robinson as you can clearly see had a sharp angle so made him look a lot faster, he was running the width of the feild not length like doug howlett was, robinson was put to the test, and he well lost.

Rory underwood was electric over 40 m but fizzled out after 60/65. BUT, look at his record and how he finished! Imagine him in the professional era! Robinson was the same!

@kazy234 na bro...look at it this way... doug is carrying the ball witch stops the flow of his arms when running,robinson is free..the chaser is 9 times out of 10 faster then the ball carrier,i would agree in saying robinson was slightly out of position....but must give it to dougy on this one!not the highest ALL BLACKS try scorer for nothing!!!

Patriotism aside... The more I watch this, the more redundant as to who was actually running faster is all the more apparent. Howlett was moving faster than Robinson from 40-42 sec running left to right faster than Robinson. The second angle from 1:10-1:15 shows Robinson running right to left faster. Guys; News flash - ANGLES. They're different entirely (despite running toward the same corner). Who on earth uses a ruler on a flat sceen pc monitor to determine distance and depth? Seriously?

@jonnyrmsy it does not matter how many tries Howlett scored in the RWC does it, because he didn't score when it mattered most. However, Jason did. That is why he has the medal Howlett and the rest of them, as usual, were not good enough to get. AB seem to think they are the best in the world win or lose. If that is the case, why enter a competition they have not won since '87? Arrogance leading to more embarrassment and disappointment would seem.

to be fair to Jason, he has had to track ACROSS the field, Howlett was already running at full pace when he caught the ball whereas Jason had to go almost from a standing start. No denial both players were exceptionally fast and brilliant players but this is hardly a straight 100m race from identical starts is it

man robinson was a bit in front and still got iced......even though robbo has great accel.....he still got iced. But in the end howlett is faster and robbo is still a legend and howlett is a great wing.

in my opinion ,because robinson had to run across the field this try does show that howlet is faster...but what makes me smile to myself is that if robinson had caught up with howlet,what would he have done anyway?...( we al know that the eng backs are pathetic at tackling)...love the last effort dive though....almost looks like he really was trying LOL

@rebanx1 Robinson shouldn't of been able to get anywhere near Howlett. Look just before the try, Robinson is on the floor in the middle of the field when the al blacks win the ball thanks to a miss pass from one of his team mates. It shows how great a player he was that he managed to get up, back and across and still almost catch up.
