  • Dougie and Lomu on the wings... Jesus

  • fairplay, im english and howlett is rapid

  • Teach me how to Dougie, teach me how to Dougie!

  • nah watched a few times again he still runs twice the distance watch it from 1.06

  • Howlett catches the ball around 45m out at 1:10. Robinson is running across field so it makes it look like he's running further but he's not.

  • @linkinparkforelife and robinson started from 45m out but had to cross from the other side of the pitch as well

  • @tiny789 He starts out maybe 37m out ( he's not even inside the 10m line ) and runs across field on an angle to the 5m line where he dives. So I think Howlett runs just a little bit more as Howlett runs from 45m out to score.

  • @linkinparkforelife can i stop this now dave? told you i could wind someone up over this distance thing. just gimme the tenner down the pub friday. (sorry linkin but your 4 replys earnt me free beer !) i dont give a fuck who was fastest free beer !!!

  • @tiny789 ps had another one going with who was the best middleweight boxer ever,

but that just got silly cheers.

  • @tiny789 Haha cheers!

  • Robinson fucked up he should've just committed to the tackle wholly instead of going for an ankle tap ish in your mouth, ooh well try to dougie... "teach me how to Dougie teach me how to Dougie" Auuu....

  • MUST BE TONGAN

  • I wouldn't call that "burning". Jason runs from the other side of the pitch to get within arms reach of Howlett, who is running away from him.

  • i miss those rugby days thats when it was nail biting stuff the massive spear tackles, rucking it wasnt as tuff as those days now its more about skill..nz are better then before, well done to them world champs

  • No chance Jason...bye bye.

  • 0:34 is the worst pass I've seen in professional rugby ever, you would be dropped from my U16 team for that

  • ..hope he recovers and re-signs for munster,he's been our best (outside) back consistently for the past few seasons...

  • Why was my post flagged as spam?

  • Watch 1:10 - 1:15. Jason Robinson burns him for distance. A foot race between these two and there's going to be one winner.

  • @rxp758 Conversely - watch 0:40 - 0:42 and the same could be said for Howlett. The first angle shows Howlett running left to right faster than Robinson, the second (your example) shows Robinson running faster than Howlett. Howlett had more ground to cover.

  • how bout that Marty Holah tackle?

  • *All Blacks

  • I'd rather have howlett on my team because of the fact that he had the tendency to always be there when you needed an extra man as well as being one of the fastest all Blake's we've ever had he was also quite solid for a winger, and howlett was fast then Robinson but Robinson had better acceleration and was far more agile.

  • he is so fast really good player glad he is munster

  • Robinson does have to cover the width of the pitch though...

  • I've just emerged from the Amazon. Which way to New Zealand?

  • Howlett was quicker, as he said his 100 metre time was 10-11 seconds, whereas Robinson was known for his acceleration and agility.

  • he doesnt excaxtly burn him :D robinson is twice as fast as howlett

  • @ohOzzy

    Clearly not.

  • @SuperZane21 Robinson had to run a longer distance than Howlett

  • @ohOzzy

Watch it again Howlett ran a longer distance, just accept that robinson was never as good as the English built him to be and Howlett proves it right here.

  • Comment removed

  • CU Later Dude!

  • 'Doug Howlett burns Jason Robinson'?....... Thats weird cause jason robinson is far away from howlett but robinson still can reach howlett before he reach the tryline

  • @TheParkour97 and is left eating his dust. Even though he has to cover the shorter distance

  • fck look at his speed holy fck !

  • how did he get burned anyone would of mist that ?

  • If you actually watch how much ground JR has to make up when NZ break no Howlett does not burn him it is just that Jason is fighting a losing race from the start.

  • @proprioceptive44

Seen how much ground Howlett makes though?

  • Robinson got burned.....lights out!!

  • 0:25 that could have been a vid on its own, MONSTER!!! lol

  • Marty Holah's tackle would've gotten him red carded today..

  • Mintbeans is right Robinson is better :/

  • ta ta toff woooooo hoooooo

  • Bring Back Howlett

  • Smoked. Robinson took off a good few second's before Howlett and was too sloooowwww. Bang

  • Comment removed

  • skined him

  • Howlett all day! yeeaahh :)

  • @MrKiwi4life robbo ran twice the distance! and almost got him.

  • @tiny789 Running on an angle, you tend to catch them. Not today mate. ;p

  • @tiny789 thats a "almost" haha im a robinson, but he lost this one mate!

  • @tiny789 Twice the distance? The angle of the camera has got you confused mate.

  • this is a ridiculously bombastic titled video. As has been said look at the physics, different angles and momentum.

  • Robinson is waaaayyyyy quicker and i'm not being bias because I'm a New Zealander!!! Robinson is a legend. Howlett had heaps less distance to run!!!!!!! no wonder he made it. Also Howlett can only run a straight line. Robinson can zig zag like a machine

  • @Mintbeans123 Actually he's only faster over 10m. Anything over that Howlett's faster.

  • howlett might aswell have fucked robinson in the arse

  • Howlett was easily quicker.

Over that kind of distance he wasn't the only one that would have the better of Robinson, though over 20 yards Jason would smoke anybody.

Even in his younger days at Wigan he was never the quickest player at his club.... Offiah was always quicker.

  • Are you fookin joking or what?!?!! lolol.. Anyone can see the amount of ground Robinson makes up.. Look at them both individually and its clear who moves quicker and who covers the most ground.. Robinson all day long!!!

  • what does commentator say at 1.30, something about waikato

  • Howlett is faster. Dumb faggots. Robinson is good for like 2 seconds then he's just an average joe.

  • lol i think its funny how you can see jason robinson clearly going faster

  • Wish dougie still played for ABs... NZ misses you bro! hope you're having fun with Munster. Great team.

  • Howlettt was a fantastic winger- he never got the respect he deserved imo.

  • both so good! check my page guys

  • thats how you take a ball at pace !!

  • thats what you do, you run away from the other team, not to them !! DA!!

  • Press Pause , Play , 8 ... to save 0:40 seconds of your life :)

  • SMOKED!!!

  • With the angle, Howlett probably ran about 50m to the try line, Robinson is about 35m out, and covers about 20m towards the touch line, so he probably ran about 40m. Robinson got burned.

Bloody good effort to almost catch him though.

  • Barnes is a tosser of a commentator :o(, of course Robinson gets near him, decent bloody effort considering Howlett is as fast as they come and took it on the burst.

@ olyapp, Robbo deffo the faster acceleration and gets to top speed quicker, Howlett much quicker top end as you say

  • wdf jst happen..lol..bt hey they both rugby legend.....good players too

  • Robinson has far better acceleration but Howlett has a hight top speed if I remember

  • why ddnt they play him against france in 2007! i mean god graham henry, "Him since we're so likely to win I guess I'll rest him for the semi" *abs lose* "Aw shit"

  • we all know who won this game. yep: england, 31 - 28. was a good game clearly

  • @rpx1979

Agreed. One of the best games. As a Kiwi watching this in London, I had to admire the English team of 2002-03. They scored some cracking tries in the 2002 Autumn Internationals. Ben Blair is a shocker though, how he ever was an AB is a mystery.

  • Look at howletts legs man, you can tell hes gonna out shine robinson. But robinson did make a good run to him. But c'mon guys. its was even Howletts going up, 30m robinsons comming accross by 20, so fo course hes gonna come accross easily. But they said it, hes a sprinter man too fast!!! :)

  • Howlett is an 11 second sprinter. No way Robinson could catch him in any scenario.

  • btw, another cracking hit from Jonny on 9 seconds

  • all yu need to do is go to 1. 06 and look.....robinson rips up half da width by da time howlett makes a couple of yards

  • It was hardly a neck and neck foot race was it.....smoked him my ass!

  • Comment removed

  • even the commentator agrees he got burnt so...sorry HE GOT BURNED

  • got burnt...doug is way faster anyway....suck on that shit

  • Well considering all the 'What ifs'....im pretty sure the video clearly shows Doug Howlett burning Jason Robinson. :) Watch the Video and respect the greatness lol.

  • on the replay robinson looks like he's in a fucking computer game

  • If he had 5 more metres he would have got him, he ate up that ground so quickly!

  • to me rbinson looks like he has a lot futher to run. also robinson is quick but his reputation comes from his speed of the mark and his side step. its not the really that suprising!!

  • Its his hair.

  • Tongan/Scottish/Kiwi, what a great mix for a Rugby player!!! I love the Polynesians, they just make such great natural athletes!

  • almost catch up!lol.

  • how about that tackle from no.7 (Richie McCaw I think). Picked him up and slammed him big time!! Cant do hits like that in todays game.

  • @chickenfoot09 nah its Marty Holar

  • NZ FTW!

  • Come on guys! Jason Robinson is VERY quick off the mark, but he was on his own 22m line when he shot across to make the tackle!!! Howlett got the ball on the 10m line and had further to run than robinson! (Robinson ran ACROSS THE FIELD!) Two great players and a great try in the end. He was beaten for pace, its as simple as that...

  • Im a huge Robinson fan and he is an all time great and possibly the best league to union convert ever, but full back is a position about angles for defence just as much as attack, Howlett being the lethal finisher that he is got his correct and Robinson on this occasion was caught only ever so slightly out of position and hence was made to look slower than Howlett who produced a finish that the great Billy Whiz himself would be proud of.

  • l know the next Jason Robinson he plays for Lutterworth under 17s ,

George Ball. Remember where you heard it first.

100 metres 11.4 two years ago we just hope he gets a bit bigger

  • Robinson was by far the quicker of the two in this clip. The poster needs to go for specsavers, 'cos you can't get "burnt" if you start so much further away. Getting burnt is when you're slower.

  • Robinson's won a world cup...

  • I Think jason robinson is one of the fastest men in rugby. over a short distance I think over 100 metres doug would run away with it

  • The commentators a twat! He has no idea what he's saying! He should not be a commentator! Robinson ran across the pitch and I would say within a metre is pretty close. If Douggie had to run a bit further to score robinson would have had him!

  • @MrNiknak97 the commentator is stuart barnes and hes a cock!

as a Leicester Tigers fan he hates us because he was kept out of the England squad by the

underwoods.and it was very clear here that Robinson clearly covered twice the distance of howlett

  • anyway he missspeeded doug he should his closing place should had been picked up 3 meters in front of the one he had thats why howlett got the try

  • faaaarr out. robinson covered so much ground!

  • I still think Jason is faster !!!

  • Look at 1.10, how fast is he covering that ground?!? Machine.

  • What are u talkn about? Jason Robinson had to run diagonally. But Doug just had to run straight. Jason Robinson is definitely quicker

  • HAHAHA ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? STOP BEING SORE LOSERS AND FACE THE FACT JASON ROBINSON GOT SENT BACK TO SCHOOL!!!!LOL DAMN! HE WAS BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURNED.

  • robinson must have been the fastest man in the world over 40 m

  • robinson had the angle and width to catch howlett and he couldnt. not many if any couldve.

  • Robinson had the angle and still got skinned. Howlett was clearly quicker.

  • Say what you want, it wasn't in a straight line so this whole arguement is wrong.

  • Yup he burnt Robinson big time, Robinson is quick but deal with it, Howlett hit the ball at speed and only got faster.

  • u guys r retarded, robinson is like 2 foot tall, he looks fast but he aint going anywhere like

  • I must say he Doug has speed but Jason Robinson was definitely faster by a long way. Credit where it is due though, good try.

  • Robinson was destroyed in that little test of speed, the fact is doug howlett would smoke him because of the top end speed he has, robinson as you can clearly see had a sharp angle so made him look a lot faster, he was running the width of the feild not length like doug howlett was, robinson was put to the test, and he well lost.

  • Why do people go on about what player can run the 100 m in?!?!?! It does nt matter! There on a field, with boots on and holding a ball! Rory underwood was electric over 40 m but fizzled out after 60/65. BUT, look at his record and how he finished! Imagine him in the professional era! Robinson was the same!

  • what a read from tana

  • @duceoldschool if the try line had been another 10 metres back Robinson would have tackled him and robinson is faster thn howlett

  • @TheLittlelewis1999 well guess what? the try line isnt back another 10 meters

  • are you joking : 0 jason robinson screamed across the whole pitch by the time doug had run 20m, only reason he scored was because doug ran away from him

  • @kazy234 hahaha so the only reason Robinson couldnt catch him was "because doug ran away from him"???? So are you saying the only reason Doug score is because he ran faster than Robinson..... Wow thats a dumb comment!

  • @kazy234 na bro...look at it this way... doug is carrying the ball witch stops the flow of his arms when running, robinson is free..the chaser is 9 times out of 10 faster then the ball carrier,i would agree in saying robinson was slightly out of position....but must give it to dougy on this one!not the highest ALL BLACKS try scorer for nothing!!!

  • @kazy234 nah he got smoked, deal with it

  • @kazy234 You obviously aren't familiar with the speed it takes to go AROUND some one.

  • @kazy234 but if doug n robinson went head to head who would win?

  • @kazy234 mate. imagine an equalateral triangle dougie and jason both at two different corners same distance racing to see who gets to the last and only corner... in this clip Doug just beats him to it.

LOL sorry but i had to laugh at the last bit "only reason he scored was because doug ran away from him". Two things come to my mind when reading that. Oh wow i guess he is faster than him and second your an idiot, you cant score a try if your tackled. Your welcome

  • @kazy234 what is he spose to run towards him lol he got smoked even the commentator said it and he's an englishmen.

  • @kazy234 excuses

  • @kazy234 tell that to the commentator.. " he is absolutely burned on the outside.." enough said.

  • @kazy234 Hahaha...you mean the only reason Doug scored is because he was faster than Robinson :)

  • @kazy234 are you stupid : 0 what did you expect doug howlett to do? stop and wait for robinson to tackle him hahaha off course doug will run away from him... THIS IS RUGBY FOR FUCK SAKE..

  • @kazy234 Are you joking he was just to fast boy.

  • @kazy234 You mean the only reason why Doug scored was because he was faster? Yes, thought so ;)

  • @kazy234 i thought thats the objective of the game not to get tackled thats why he ran away fool!

  • @kg4510 tell that to Lomu

  • @kazy234 the last bit of your comment is kinda stupid. Running away from the opposition is the ideal thing to do when your heading to the tryline, but you know that already.....................

    I hope

  • @kazy234 20m?! Are you shitting me? He runs from the 10m line which is 40m away from the try line. Robbo only had to run 20m across the pitch

  • DOUG HOWLET he's a real tryhard,( i mean that in a good way) i think Guildford is the same quick to, howlit had the angle here u have to say, but yes i would back howlit to beat robinson in a race but... only just.

  • lol how does he burn him? 5 meters more and he be on him only thing that saved him that try was the the tryline

  • well considering robinson was on the other wing not bhugely impressive bit one sided in your title

  • man that whole clip was fun to watch. today would struggle to get away with that lifted tackle tho, surely. love the pommy commentators, they love their rugby where as the south africans or aussies would spend their time moaning unless things went their way

  • robinson has fast acceleration which is why he is a good player but howlett has a higher top speed.

  • he had a head start

  • On this occasion you can't say that doug howlett burnt Jason Robinson as he is faster and he had a lot more ground to cover and who has a world cup winners medal and Robinson is ten times the player that doug howlett is so ha u new zealanders

  • @TheLittlelewis1999 What video were you watchin mate...in the one I was watchin it looked to me like Robinson got burnt!! It doesn't mean he's a useless player, or slow, coz he's neither, he's a great player in his own right and 1 that would probably make the All Blacks if he came to NZ.

  • On this occasion you can't say doug howle

  • just goes to show how fast Lomu was. commentator here says howlett is 10.68, Jonah was 10.65 and obviously twice howlett's size

  • Who is fastest does not seem relevant.

But who has a RWC Winners medal does.

  • FAAAAARRRRRKKK that tackle at 0:26

  • omg marty holah's tackle!!! fuuuck!

  • what a knock on!

  • Elton Flatly (former Wallaby Second Five-Eigth or Inside Centre which ever you prefer) even "smokes" Robinson in a match played a week later. Can't find it on youtube but I have a DVD called "World Beaters" and its of the England Rugby team's triumphs over the 3 southern hemisphere powers in November 2002. I'll Try and upload it to prove my point.

  • Patriotism aside... The more I watch this, the more redundant as to who was actually running faster is all the more apparent. Howlett was moving faster than Robinson from 40-42 sec running left to right faster than Robinson. The second angle from 1:10-1:15 shows Robinson running right to left faster. Guys; News flash - ANGLES. They're different entirely (despite running toward the same corner). Who on earth uses a ruler on a flat sceen pc monitor to determine distance and depth? Seriously?

  • Lets put it this way, I'm english and howlett is loads faster, people seem to forget robinson was famous for his acceleration, not his overall speed unlike howlett

  • @vegatablesouptom Howlett Run a 10.6 in the hundred at the age of 15 or 16 totally agree jason robinsons acceleration is faster teh howlets but top speed howlets is faster lol! tbh when u think about it jason had a lot more ground to cover the howlet an he almost touches him lol

  • @cuddybundi At the end of the day it makes no difference because england won that game :L

  • run them in a straight line. this is just stupid, look how much ground robinson had to cover...

  • @jonnyrmsy it does not matter how many tries Howlett scored in the RWC does it, because he didn't score when it mattered most. However, Jason did. That is why he has the medal Howlett and the rest of them, as usual, were not good enough to get. AB seem to think they are the best in the world win or lose. If that is the case, why enter a competition they have not won since '87? Arrogance leading to more embarrassment and disappointment would seem.

  • Howlett couldn't "burn" Jason with a cigarette.

  • Would definately NOT say Robinson got "Burned" as Robinson made more ground tracking accross field....

  • to be fair to Jason, he has had to track ACROSS the field, Howlett was already running at full pace when he caught the ball whereas Jason had to go almost from a standing start. No denial both players were exceptionally fast and brilliant players but this is hardly a straight 100m race from identical starts is it

  • man robinson was a bit in front and still got iced......even though robbo has great accel.....he still got iced. But in the end howlett is faster and robbo is still a legend and howlett is a great wing.

  • in my opinion ,because robinson had to run across the field this try does show that howlet is faster...but what makes me smile to myself is that if robinson had caught up with howlet, what would he have done anyway?...( we al know that the eng backs are pathetic at tackling)...love the last effort dive though....almost looks like he really was trying LOL

  • @rebanx1 Robinson shouldn't of been able to get anywhere near Howlett. Look just before the try, Robinson is on the floor in the middle of the field when the al blacks win the ball thanks to a miss pass from one of his team mates. It shows how great a player he was that he managed to get up, back and across and still almost catch up.

  • Check it from 1:08. Robinson did great.

  • @darroth48 Errmm no hes not. I dont know who your looking at but its not Robinson. Robinson should've caught him he was moving to cover befor Howlet broke the line. He's actually run a shorter distance than Howlet as well..... he got burnt pure and simple

  • @darroth48 He's a fullback. He was already in position at the back and was there before Doug even touched the ball. He also had the angle on Howlett.

  • @CantabAndy are you a fucking blind moron

  • @brasher01 At 34 seconds Jason Robinson is already up and moving back into position. At 39 seconds Doug gets the ball.

  • @darroth48 haha doesnt even matter about how far jason ran to get to him. he still didnt get him ha

  • @darroth48 yeah hes great for ALMOST catching up

  • come on guys robinson is a very good player we all know that, but give it to dougie....he burnt him

  • Dougie Howlett sure was one quick Tongan

  • i want to say robinson was about 20 meters away and nearly got him

  • howlet it's a sprinter... robinson... good bye! hahahaha... too right
