Thanks for laying off the PA-300. The first-due company where I live I swear it MUST be S.O.P. they almost ALWAYS just set the electronics on Wail and stand on the Q for every intersection. Not too much air horn use, though. The officer controls the electronic, while the driver has the Q pedal and the horns in the center of the steering wheel. Their 2 newest trucks even have a "Mechanical siren cut-out" switch on the engine hood next to the officer. Can you say B-A-C-K-W-A-R-D-S??
The "Mechanical siren cut-out" switch in the cab of the truck next to the officer is the siren brake. Federal Signal just doesn't make their Q sirens like they used to. When you press the floor button for the siren, activate the siren brake, and what that does is it quickly winds the siren all the way down so you don't have to let it coast. The older Q sirens from the 1970s,1980s and 1990s didn't have a siren brake, so they were called coasting sirens.
Frank, those K5LAs kick ass when they're used, and normally, you'd only hear the K5LAs on the railroad, in Pikesville, MD, and Walkersville, MD! Now you'll hear them in Newport, DE, and there will be no stopping that Red Train! Ha!
