  • could be a few things. Check the spark plugs first, then run a test with the coolant for head gasket leak. Also check the hoses and connections of the electric harnesses on the valve cover. Theres an engine temp sensor that likes to go out. Check engine light on?

  • check ur dizzy cap, check ur spark plugs, your engine cound be needing a rebuild

  • Bought the dame car with same problem, fixed a air leak in a cylinder and it runs perfect also maby a tune up, they are solid cars!

  • These Mercedes are so nice, I have one myself only the estate, not as cool but still pretty awesome

  • i looking for a 300e to restore i have a friend who have a 88 300e that need tlc but the car still run and drive he want to sell it white

  • mine has been having transmission problems, slipping between 2 and 3 and thudding between r and d

    the clearcoat is peeling too

    but still a great car

  • ive no comment or suggestions on the start problems, but its a fantastic car! stunningly beatiful! :D

  • fuel pump

  • or first check pressure fuel .

  • change pump fuel .

  • Replace the cold start valve. It fixed mine. It looks like a big injector.

  • @silverberber its not the cold start injector..in another vid he has the temperature is at 80 celcius so its not the cold start injector.

  • Thats Very Nice. I just got a 1990 for myself. I don't know whats wrong?

  • the older mercedes imo were more stylish back then, like the headlight wipers and stuff. nowindays there just about aurodynamics

  • Starting issues can be caused by old/failed temperature sensors, fouled spark plugs, or the air meter potentiometer being worn. Take it to a proper MB service center and they can fix/figure it out. Common issue on the 300E with the M103 engine.

  • any luck resolving the problem?

  • Lol

  • alright mine had the same problem what you need to do is take the air filter off. Then look under the throttle body and you will see a hose it is probly disconnected. It is a very easy fix the engine is just not getting enough air for the fuel mixture. Mine slips out all the time and i just pop it back in.

  • My friend has the same problem... all he does is give a little gas while starting and it's on... takes him less than a second that way ;)

  • got this in white

  • Cant explain why with 110,000 miles, but it is flawless.... Thanks, I'll buy.

  • I,m looking to buy a 1990 300e for 3,000 I hear bad things No or Go???? please give me some feedback...

  • I'd say no but just because of the price. Unless the car is completely flawless, its a bit too expensive. You can get a good condition 300E for about $2000 nowdays.

Otherwise I say go for it.

Some people might say no because it doesn't get the best gas mileage and parts are expencive, but all in all it is a great car. Fix it right and take care of her and she will last you quite a while.

    Good luck.

  • @starbucksmunky to anybody out there. i am a 22 yr old college student. how much does insurance cost me for a car like a 300e 2.8 or a 1993 AMG e class? and as a first car. and is maintenance expensive?

  • fuel filter or spark plugs maybe

  • yea same, when my dad starts his it shakes for a couple of seconds as if its about to stall, and you have to push a little gas for it not to stall ..but i think thats because our car has high idling...check if the idleing if you get it started

  • Thanks it does have a high idle.

  • These are FI motors, right?

    Maybe its a bad injector?

  • Maybe. Thanks.

  • hi the problem in #7 injector in the 6 cyl nothing to do with the fule pump or spark plugs or any thing that injector in the medel of the engine it works throw sensor some times it dosn't work or if it's worm enough the sensor doesn't give an order to #7 injector wich help the enjine to start qwekly

I cut the wiers comen from the sensor to the injector and by pasit to the starter wires so every time I start the car the injector got the order to give the car good puch enough to startit

  • Does anyone know where the brake vacume line thing is so I could seafoam it?

  • My 1990 300E does the same thing, got a new battery, plugs, fuel filter. I noticed that on cooler days it cranks right up but on warmer it takes longer. My next thing to check is the fuel pump relay.

  • Does it start at all? Is it fuel or ignition? If it sputters ignition will give a quicker cut out - fuel starvation is more drawn out - could be a host of things from distributer cap/rotor/ spark plug wires to fuel pump (if it starts at all probably not fuel pump) a more common thing that can be aggravating is the fuel pump relay behind the battery - hmm, 152 chars remaining and counting - I have covered the main things

My 86 300E has 320,000 miles and counting - really like the car...

  • Does it crank a while and then finally start? If it does, take the distributor cap off and clean the contacts on the inside where the rotor makes contact, then also clean the rotor contact... inspect to make sure there aren't any cracks in the plastic. Mine would crank a long time and wouldn't fire but every once in a while, and it was because there was corrosion build up on the inside of the cap. If that fixes your problem, you may want to replace the cap & rotor, it'll run better.

  • Check the compression. If that checks out, check the fuel pressure at the injectors. If that checks out it's probably an electrical problem. You're going to have to take it to a shop and have it plugged in to have the injectors, and other sensors properly tested. Is there any check engine lights on?

  • Only light that is on is the reverse light one, ours burnt out.

  • The others burn out? But they were on? If they were on it's more than likely a sensor problem.

  • my dad has got one too. and I love this car and our 300E is a special made. we live in Turkey and my dad bring that car from Germany and its cool u know when we bring our car to service they always be suprised and ask us that we bought it here or bring it from germany ;) I love to drive that. and u know what this car has a better performance then the 2006 E200 KOMPRESSOR... I drove that too. its about 180 HP and 300E has 231 HP. ( and I beat a new 530 with 300E but its about my driving ;) )

  • Sounds like my Volkswagen LT 35 when i coldstart it

  • take the cables out of the battery then put them back. Then see if it starts immediatly may NOT be the sensor.Sorry

  • Thanks

  • looks nice, and i love the ski rack

  • Thanks

  • sensor

  • Which?
