I really didn't have any money on me, but I had an all-day bus pass which I didn't need anymore (but it was still good until 3:00 AM the next day and you could ride whatever bus you wanted until then) so I offered to give that to him.
He just gave me a look and said "No thanks" and walked away to beg from someone else.
I had a standoff with a panhandler wherby he demanded a dollar and I offered .25 cents. He proceded to ranting & raving...he threw the quarter down on ground. I picked it up and walked away.
This is why I carry a McDonalds gift card or two in my car whenever I'm driving around the cities-if the guy with the cardboard sign actually NEEDS food, that $10-20 Arch Card will look like Manna from Heaven. If I'm feeling REALLY generous, sometimes I'll supplement that McD's gift card with a Target Card for around $20. Don't say I'm not compassionate!

Yes, Michael Douglas does a great job but the director should be appreciated more. There are so many excellent aspects to the film. Extremely well made. Even the music is well chosen, reflecting the 'sick' society in many places.
This movie doesn't paint a pretty picture of LA. It's dark and twisted. I guess that's what makes this movie so interesting. Joel Schumacher is a great director.

Why would a bum throw an apple? I would think that he'd still be happy with the brief case, Food is food and he could probably sell the brief case even if he didn't get much for it.
