Secret of Nimh was a really good movie. Actually one of the Nostalgia Critic's fav movies BTW. I liked it a lot. It was really good. This was when Don Bluth was doing great, American Tail, Land Before Time and All Dogs Go To Heaven were really good too. In the 90's I only liked 2 Bluth movies Anastasia and Titan A.E. His other movies in the 90's Rock-A-Doodle, Pebble and the Penguin and Troll In Central Park sucked. Thumbelina was ok. Only good part of Pebble was Tim Curry.
The proof why this movie left a big impression on me as a child: years later I had to search online for hours just to know the name of what this movie was called.
I saw this when I was a very young kid, then when I was in sixth grade I read Redwall, and images of this movie that I had subconciously remembered kept popping up. It was rather interesting, to be honest.
Thats the same with me! I've only been able to remember small parts and how much I absolutely love it. For years I've been searching for it, and I finally found it :)!
i remember owning this movie. now that i watch this trailer, to me it seems a lil bit scary of a young kid to watch. but then again i havent seen it for ages

Discover the Secret of NIMH, and rediscover the child in us all!
Too bad children nowadays get spongebob, cow and chicken, and some other form of bright, nonsensical, watch it then forget it entertainment. I'm not saying it's bad...
The Secret of NIMH is a very big phenomonal masterpiece film. The animation is so beautiful as well as awesome. Even the music is fabulous. This movie deserves very big credit. Don Bluth's a genuis. To hell with most Disney animation movies. As a kid, this film had made me feel a real awakening. I'd say fuck computer animation movies. They're not made of real art and they're lazy to use real art. Thumbs up if you agree with me.
@SpiritusPhantom I know what you mean. Most of what he made in the 80's is better. I do like The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go To Heaven. They're my favorites too even though The Secret Of NIMH is my most favorite.
@SpiritusPhantom Yes I know that they did and it was very stupid of them. Very poorly done since I've seen it. Especially since the writter of Mrs. Brisby And The Rats Of NIMH didn't write a sequel. If he did, I would know well that he'd try to please his fans by writing the sequel well and not for nothing. Only if he felt inspired too but he didn't and you know what? Sometimes when you complete a story with no continueing, it's what makes the story the best.
@SpiritusPhantom It's alright. I looked it up and the sequel was written by the author's daughter after he died. Those who read the squel said that they didn't like it and I don't blame them. If O'Brian was alive he would have done a better job. The story is his very own.
@Marguerite21 You know, it takes even more time, and it´s more costly, to make a computer animated film. So just because it´s done in computers, dosen´t mean it is easier, quite the contrary.
It was fucking scary for me as a child... the second one was much brighter and I liked it better, but now I love them both. Long life to Marty, my fav character!!!!
Does anyone here remember an animated movie about a mouse and an Elephant that got married in the end? I've been trying to find this animation for over two years.
probably thinking of Mouse and Child...the father mouse married a pink elephant. they were both wind-up toys until a muskrat fixed them so they could move of their own free will. it was based off a Russian story, though i cant remember the author
I'm so glad my 4th grade teacher read this to us, otherwise I probably never would've encountered this amazing film or the book itself. I hope that teachers still bother to share greats like this with their classes in today's time, it would be a shame if they didn't!
I loved this movie and still do this animation is the best and the story is just as good plus I think the animators who did this movie were the ones who worked on Dragons Layer Arcade game :)
Nowadays when farmers plough their field, they have to start from the outside, not from the middle, they have to start from the outside so that the wildlife doses not get ploughed as well as the field.

Anyone else find it funny hearing Dom Deluise's voice say, as Jeremy, that he's allergic to cats (at 1:32) when you're so used to him voicing Tiger in An American Tale?
The best movie i've ever seen. It scared me quite a lot, but I still liked watching it :) Also all the shimmering effects and the lightnings. Aww, so well made.
It's been so many years since I've seen this movie, but I still remember it to be one of my favorites. It was absolutely magical and breathless to watch.
This movie and Watership Down scared me- they told me not to watch the old classic version of Charlotts Web and still in over 15 years I havent seen it!
I don't mean to offend anyone, but I just saw this movie and found it a bit disappointing. I felt that the rats home and story wasn't very well gone into, and the end was kind of slurred and quickly done with the amulet. It seemed to show greater potential to me. Anyone care to share how they felt about the ending respectfully to me? Because I really feel they missed the mark a little with the ending, especially for a Don Bluth movie.
@supermariofan03 Just enough so that you understand Bluth was trying to tell you an honest story, instead of a morality lesson. The mice and rats feel like people, mostly, not like cardboard cutout stereotypes. Well, Jenner's more or less your typical mustache-twirling villain, but even he has his moments. Even Jeremy can be forgiven -- I actually found him rather endearing and a counter to some of the dark, brooding plot angles.
The Secret Of NIMH holds the very same power as the amulet it's self. It was forged from the heart and brings out the true courage and love to any soul that views it's passion and glimmer. It is rare and unique after looking upon it's glimmer and beauty, the viewers life is changed and rendered anew. May it's legacy live on for all of eternity.
I saw this when I was five or six. My first memorable animated feature. The genius of Don Bluth's movies is that unlike the Disney franchise, his animated films don't beat you over the head repeatedly with a sugar coated club of cuddley cuteness. Instead, they have a that touch of authentic tragedy which is more atuned to art imitating life. When I finally get kids, I'm including more Bluth and Miyazaki than Disney. Long live the hand drawn animated film. Forget the CGI nonsense.
@Burtonnut One reason: CGI is easier, therefore faster and cheaper. People should never misunderstand the vast majority of modern animated movies as being done in CGI for the art -- it's for the budget. With the massive increase in computing power, studios can now produce a 1 1/2 hour film in half or even a third of the time and money NIMH took. Everything in NIMH is hand-drawn and painted -- that is largely a lost art now, and costs a LOT of money. Money over art: sad but true.
@Burtonnut Hey, don't insult Pixar like that. They make great movies. In fact, most of their stuff is in the style of Disney and Don Bluth. If you're thinking about the stuff DreamWorks makes, then I can understand.
@Burtonnut you took the words right out of my mouth, animated movies (we call them films in the UK) had soul and heart then nowadays they are souless, heartless and empty trash.
omg. this isnt like the book. and its not Mrs. Brisby. Its Mrs. Frisby. This movie is based on the book called "Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH"
I read it. Thisis what the book is mainly about:
Timothy is sick so Mrs. Frisby goes to Mr. Ages for medicine. She see's a crow named Jeremy. He flies her to the owl. She goes in the thorn bush and see's the rats. Nicodemus tells her about Nimh. The rats move her house. THE END
In love with this movie, but like others said: It's not really suitable for little kids. When I was young, I thought it was a rather scary movie. The trailer makes you think it's quite a happy movie though.
I haven't seen this movie in years. But I remember it so few parts, yet I remember them so vividly. I have occasionally thought of this film over the years, because it was my first animated film and stayed with me. I am so thankful that I have found it once more :)
Funny to say that i'm watching this right now XD and i used to think that Nicodemus was evil because of his appearance in the beginning but alas i can't judge a book by its cover. This is one of my greatest childhood films ever <3 Don Bluth .. your the best at making childhood dreams come alive
I just watched this for the first time last night. I can't say I love it, but it's definitely the best Don Bluth film I've seen yet. I DO love Mrs. Brisby, though. She's a well rounded character, very cute, and charmingly voiced. I'll be keeping the movie and re-watching it from time to time. It'll probably grow on me. And I agree with some of you. It is definitely NOT a G movie. At some points, I even thought it was a strong PG. I'm glad I didn't see this when I was little! lol!
The one thing I didn't like about the movie was that the whole NIMH backstory was kind of glazed over. In the book it had 4 or 5 chapters to it. The movie gives it about 1 minute. Also the crow(can't remember his name) is a lot better in the book.
this movie scared the shit out of me when i was little. rated G my ass. the people who rated this should be sued. they have recently changed it to pg. I went from cinderella and barney to this film. no wonder i had night mares till i was 12!!!! NOT A KIDS MOVIE.
RIP Dom DeLuise. Funniest voice actor ever!

@Burtonnut Well they definitely aren't ugly as visuals, but indeed the story and atmosphere isnt the same as before

I'm glad I didn't see this when I was little! lol!

Doesn't anyone remember the book?
The one thing I didn't like about the movie was that the whole NIMH backstory was kind of glazed over. In the book it had 4 or 5 chapters to it. The movie gives it about 1 minute. Also the crow(can't remember his name) is a lot better in the book.
timeparadox888 11 months ago
@timeparadox888 You're right, I missed the whole backstory thing. Also, the crow's name is Jeremy.

this movie scared the shit out of me when i was little. rated G my ass. the people who rated this should be sued. they have recently changed it to pg. I went from cinderella and barney to this film. no wonder i had night mares till i was 12!!!! NOT A KIDS MOVIE.
247smashley 11 months ago
@247smashley Apparently the maker's didn't even want it to be rated G. I don't know whose bright idea that was.
