so.. are they genetically altered to make them not have hair? I mean, guinea pigs in general arent supposedly a "real" animal.. But this just makes me scratch my head o.0

I think it is the same as hairless rats...one showed up and then was reproduced down the line.

@JayFer29 Guinea pigs are indeed a "real animal". Wild guinea pigs can be located in places like Peru - unfortunately where they are used as a food source.

@JayFer29 No, no genetic tampering. Its a recessive gene that's cultivated. Technically baby skinnys and baldwins have hair, but it falls out shortly after birth.
Dunno where you heard that guinea pigs arent technically animals because they are just as much as a cat or dog. They've just cohabited with humans since around 4-5000BC...

He is a first gen. Hairless. So he still has tufts of hair on his head but naked everywhere else. Tigger is the most amazing pig. I would love to find another skinny pig. But not many come through Tucson. Thanks!
