The 2008 Olympic team had James, Anthony, Kobe, Kidd, Howard, Paul, Wade, Williams, Redd, Prince, Stoudemire, Boozer. The 2008 team was far superior for more reasons than just Kobe. The 2008 team also had a much different roster than the 2004 team. You stand corrected.
Not only that, we didn't even really trained the 2004 Olympic Basketball Team, the team was composed of All-Stars, but man, they were selected 2 weeks before Athens, there was no chemistry on the team and that created a lot of vulnerability for teams that are always playing together, our 2 exhibition games were Italy and Germany; Italy kicked USA's ass by three pointing like hell, and we beated Germany with a game-winning three at the buzzer by Iverson. International B-ball can't beat USA yet.
The 2004 olympic team was composed of all stars that were mostly 2nd and 3rd tier players. All the players that got heavy minutes in 2008 were 1st tier players.
Also in the 1998 World Championships it was a lockout, on which NBA Players couldn't play. I don't know how did this came to happen, but we claimed the bronze medal by beating Australia... of course, after a semifinal loss to Russia by 3 o 4 points or something I'm no sure. Team USA was composed of Euroleague American players, college players and D-League players. Even tough we lost on the semifinals, I'm pretty sure that if the Russians wouldn't score that long pass we would have won gold

This was so fun to watch this game starting at 11:30 pm PST , and watching a great basketball game on top of it. The refs overall were horrible on both sides of this game with the negative asside. Spain played great and so did the U.S. and they shot the lights out. This is how basketball should be played.

I hope the U.S. can keep the core of this team for the 2010 World championships in Turkey. I think they should add another solid big man and one more 3 point shooter though. It was pretty clear that they had a hard time contending against the other big men in the Olympics and that their 3 point shooting was not as good as everyone expected. For some reason, I like Emeka Okafor to play along Dwight Howard for defensive and rebounding purposes.
The refs took both Lebron and Kobe out the game with 2 fouls each in like the 1st three minutes of the game. 2 of the best ballers in the world out and Spain still couldn't get a lead. they played pretty much the best games in there lives and to say the refs were on USA side is ridicules. they hit pretty much every jumpshot and flotter they took and were playing 2-3. but U.S. being the best adjusted and won anyway D Wade came in and went off.

It wasn't a NBA match, meaning that FIBA rules for the game would apply. But for some strange reason the American players were playing according to NBA rules and almost never the referees did anything about it. You might not see this as you may not be used to European basketball, but it is quite obvious for any European watcher and very unfair because one thing is true: the Americans are way better than any one else and they do not need this extra help from the referees. Still, only 11 points..
One thing about FIBA refs is they inconsistent, every game is called differently. The US was warned before the Olympics not let the ref's calls/noncalls upset them. These are the same FIBA refs when the US lost in 2002, 2004 and 2006. The refs for that game were from Lithuania, Argentina and Finland, hardly US basketball supporters. So if you want to cry about the FIBA refs and say that FIBA is unfair you might as well throw away your gold medal of 2006. Or is it only unfair when you don't win?

As a former NBA player he knows the difference of a real from a floppy foul that most of these referees had been buying from Spain throughout the game. Look back to the elimination round of usa vs Spain and against Greece. Officiating were really excellent that resulted to a very exciting games. I hope the U.S. can keep the core of this team for the 2010 World championships in Turkey. I think they should add another solid big man and one more 3 point shooter though. It was pretty clear that they had a hard time contending against the other big men in the Olympics and that their 3 point shooting was not as good as everyone expected. In my humble opinion these are the facts:
1. The Americans still are by far the best basketball players(Shaq, Iverson, Duncan... weren't playing for the USA and it still was an incredibly talented team);
2. It is the refs the ones to blame for letting them play accoriding to NBA rules (travelling, etc). They are indeed FIBA refs. and FIBA rules would apply to all the rest of the teams but USA. Why?;

It wasn't a NBA match, meaning that FIBA rules for the game would apply. But for some strange reason the American players were playing according to NBA rules and almost never the referees did anything about it. You might not see this as you may not be used to European basketball, but it is quite obvious for any European watcher and very unfair because one thing is true: the Americans are way better than any one else and they do not need this extra help from the referees. Still, only 11 points..

One thing about FIBA refs is they inconsistent, every game is called differently. The US was warned before the Olympics not let the ref's calls/noncalls upset them. These are the same FIBA refs when the US lost in 2002, 2004 and 2006. The refs for that game were from Lithuania, Argentina and Finland, hardly US basketball supporters. So if you want to cry about the FIBA refs and say that FIBA is unfair you might as well throw away your gold medal of 2006. Or is it only unfair when you don't win?

As a former NBA player he knows the difference of a real from a floppy foul that most of these referees had been buying from Spain throughout the game. Look back to the elimination round of usa vs Spain and against Greece. Officiating were really excellent that resulted to a very exciting games. It's not so much that the USA is getting worse, it's that the rest of the world is getting better. Other countries are catching up to USA, and I really don't mind it. I think it's good for the competition of world basketball.

Great. This means that all the US loses in the past don't count. That means that all of FIBA is fixed and they are all decided by the referees. The only real basketball is the NBA! USA bunch of pussies? Did you see the Spanish and Greek players? They look like girls compared to James, Howard and Kobe.

No. Thats just means that us was favored during the olympics. Kobe could not even start an attempt, cause its steps in fiba regulations. NBA is a big show thats why its easier.. fiba rules are more strict thats why your dream team was smashed in 2004 and instead of learning how to play FAIR you fixed the games! I'm not comparing anything, its the simple truth..

Oh now I get it! Only when the team you don't want to win wins it is fixed. Okay. Also two things about 2004:
1. Losing by Argentina by 8 points and winning a bronze medal isn't "smashed"
2. Most of the American players backed out of the 2004 team. Yes they had Duncan and Iverson but did not have as much talent as the "Redeem" Team of 2008 which had 6 or 7 of the best players in the world.

A bronze metal after the pompous statements about the dream team and the advertisment and all, sorry but yes it is smashed.They could bareky make it to 100 points.Yes they played better in 2008 but only because they got help from the refs.
And thats not sth i say cause i didnt want thenm to win (i never said that),that is a FACT stated by an official referee of the GAMES, one who also was the ref in the match between usa and germany (106-57).The refs had instruction not to call certain violatons
