The difference between the tactics of law enforcement's actions on the OWS movement is only separated by a few degrees from Syria, and other areas while the president of the US talks about "killing their OWN people." Do we not see the hypocrisy? Hedges, like all students of history, is a prophet. The process is in full sway--to re-enslavement.

A debate between Chris Hedges and Derrick Jensen? I'd kill to see that, since both men are heroes of mine.

Hedges is NY Times the most spun publication that will divert your attention from their bosses (the federal reserve) and use the mission to strip the wealth of what is remaining of the middle class. I'm sure he just dropped by huh?

@whatupwiththatdog hedges stopped working for the NY Times many years ago, as they refused to let him publish his voice. He saw their greed and hideousness and left them.

US unions alone are not enough. We need international labor unions, because corporations are trans-national and have no loyalty to any nation, or its workers.

@ainemacdermot Yes, but. It will take a long time to agree on reasonable salaries with unions of forced labor in China. Which is to say there are no unions in China. Sure they need support, at least as much as US unions.

Maybe old-fashioned protectionism would help a bit: duties, trade quotas etc. Unfortunately WTO has banned those on US request.

around 9:00 he's talking about corporate sponsored debates where the corporations sponsoring the debate decide which talking points we get to hear.

Personally, I don't really follow debates much because it's become the same rhetoric ad nauseum. Has there even been a non-corporate debate where all parties, regardless of viewpoint, have been invited and allowed to be heard?

With the 2012 election coming up, isn't this something that we, as a movement should be focusing on?

@Jazzerus2 That would be a tiny step forward. But how would we force any candidates to serious debate and questioning?

Astronomical election budgets are much more serious problem. We have to get all corporate money out of politics, both from elections and from lobbying.

first we should seek to implement some type of strict campaign finance reform

so that no party ever is influenced by money or donations or connections

transparency in where they are coming from etc.

Chris Hedges is amazing. My question is if your objectives are not being reached with non-violence, at what point do you abandon that philosophy?

"We've militarized our police force so that there's no difference between a midnight raid in Oakland and a raid in Afghanistan. " they migrate back " to the homeland these brutal tactics. THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT. THIS IS THE LANGUAGE THEY SPEAK. NON VIOLENT PROTEST IS COMPLETELY FOREIGN TO THEM.
