@ Uperkurk: The three "noob cruisers" are actually pretty good, for cruisers. Also, the combined DPS and EHP of those cruisers is quite a bit more than the Hurricane. Not to mention, they're faster and more agile. Please learn what you're talking about.

One more post. Is there a beginner guide someone wrote that i can take a look at to get me familiar with the game. Before i start i would like to get an idea on what skills to train (i want to be a long range artilery guy) and how i should go about working on what ship and weapons to use. Often eve pvp is lots of nothing much happening punctuated with 5 minute jolts of adrenaline. And when you lose your ship, and even worse your pod, it can be cruel and punishing. All you can say is "Thank you CCP, may I have another!"

I don't mind paying or putting the time into it. I just don't want to be behind everyone all the time. @coligshinobi You will be a long ways behind people in skills since you train in real time and some people have been on for years. However, I've been playing 2 years with 2 accounts now, and I can say from experience that once you have some skillpoints, its just as important to have good tactics, fittings, and general knowledge of game mechanics. Many of the very best pilots/commanders I fly with aren't exceptionally high in skillpoints. If my chars were erased right now, I'd start over.

thanks for the reply. Could anyone give me an estimate on how long it would take for me to get into the action starting from nothing? I've heard it would take some 3 months to get a decent ship and start the battles and get into a federation.

ive only been playing since july 2009. and all i do is PvP.. i spent 18 days training my learning skills and then focused trained small ships and once i flew frigates really well, i moved to cruisers.. then battle cruisers.. and with in the 5 months ive played i destroyed 20 billion ISK.. 360 kills 40 deaths.

You can hop in a frigate and help a pvp fleet on the second day. And its never too late to join. You may be easier to kill at first but once you train up your skills, you will gain access to better ships and whatnot.
