  • its not a risk as they would only TX on approach to a restricted airspace on that freq im sure

  • Back in the 60's when I first began my SWL experience I picked up Air Force One a couple of times when it was in the middle of the Pacific. Of course that was an HF signal, not the VHF you were listening to here. I build myself an 80 foot long dipole, the most I could fit onto my family's property in the city and heard Radio Hanoi during the Tet Offensive. Some interesting listening! Now I'm in a condo and can't put up a decent antenna, so I'm missing SWL. KG6DHV.

  • @urbex2007 Also what is you call sign?

  • @urbex2007 Maybe you should research "FM's capture effect" and why Air Traffic does not use FM..

And FM has worse interference with poor signal strength differently from AM. With AM, the signal just fades away until it is lost in the noise. FM, the sound cuts out more and more with declining signal strength, but the strength of modulation does not change.

And yes God know how I got my license. He has blessed me with the knowledge and the career that allows me to use this knowledge. Thanks!

  • Oh, there it is! But why dont you use it?

  • Dont you have SQL?

  • Where do I get one of those transmission things?

  • If I were President I would demand that they teach me how to fly the Air Force One.

  • any enemy could monitor this then? and know where air force one is? thats a risk for sure.

  • @mikefan09 Or alternatively they could just ask for a press briefing and find out where he'll be all week. Or they could go to his house.

  • @MartinJWillett maybe they cant afford the ticket, as in enemies in foreign countries who might want to bring down the CinC while outside the country leaving the executive and military command in chaos while perhaps another terror attack is launched on the homeland, synchronicity.

  • @mikefan09 OK, we have poor terrorists who can't afford a ticket to Washington or a pair of binoculars but can afford an anti-aircraft missile, rapid response team and scanner. And because of this "risk" all the air traffic control centres around the world have to have scrambled radios. It doesn't seem to be a reasonable use of resources to me.

  • @MartinJWillett

Yep, and what we hear here is only regular approach ATC communication, a regular liner would say pretty much the same just with an other call-sign...

  • @mikefan09

If womeone knows the approach procedure of a given airport he doesn't even have to listen to ATC to know the route the plane will follow....

  • @mikefan09

In addition to the regular VHF Radio for ATC they have special secure communications such as HF and SATCOM for saying anything that potentially sensitive

  • @mikefan09

But by the time the enemy have acted on the info, its too late right?

The plane would have landed before any hostile activity toook place,

  • @125or200px its a risk thats all im sayin. shud be encrypted i suggest.

  • @mikefan09 Not a problem for Air Force One, they'll see you coming before you do.

  • @mikefan09 Air Force One my rear end. His wife preceeded him on a separate PRIVATE fight. Enjoy your socialism...

  • The Icom is a bad ass radio dude.......

  • @kb5zcs

I am pretty happy with it except its bad modulation on FM...

  • @max2950 its a good radio.

    are you ham radio?

  • @max2950 @kb5zcs Air traffic in AM. Also you will note that it states AM in the Radio at the top of the screen on the radio.. Air Traffic in in AM so that if two people try to talk at the same time it can still be heard. In FM it is very hard to understand if one keys over someone else.... 73 W5DRO

  • @DonaldOhse2 You will only hear the strongest signal no matter what MODE is used!

God knows how you got an amateur licence when you don't know anything about RF,

  • @max2950 Aviation is carried on AM, not FM, for technical reasons. Aircraft speed would cause distortion on FM because of doppler effect...

  • @kb5zcs icom rules !!!

  • Thats Dope Homie!

  • why the white noise between communications??? does not have a squelch control?? or what?

  • Sure i have a squelch control, but during that day i had about 10 receivers running at the same time and i got so excited to catch AF1 that i forgot the basics ;).

I also hoped i could ear the tower, which i can ear somedays if i leave the squelch open. But this day was not a good day, i could not receive the tower

  • Thanks max, this is a pretty cool RS,

I know what the excitement of hearing the AF1 !!! Good catch, over..!

  • @daniel10263 who cares about squelch ??

  • This was really great to hear. I have never heard air force one on the radio before.

  • can you use one of these radios without a mike and only listen if you want to i would like to use one of these as a scanner

  • Yes you can use them just as a scanner. But just for listening needs i would go for a real scanner.

Scanning modes a pretty limited on such ham radio gear.

I usually do not use this radio for listenning, but since there was dozen of frequencies to listen to during the NATO summit everything i had under my hand was used to listen !

  • haha very nice, I dream too to hear AF1 pilots on my radio...thanks for sharing!

  • cool

  • Good catch!

  • Actually i think it is not so bad, the DSP is producing some strange effect when the signal is affected by QSB...

  • who cares, do u transmit there ?

  • Nice Radio !!!!

  • excellent video max buddi hope you contact me so i can possibly get AF1. many thanks look forward to hearing from you. a good insght to the pilot of such a remarkable aircraft

  • Thank you for your comment !

That is exactly what i like about radio scanning, only the pilot is closer to the action ! :)

  • hi,

Leaving the squelch open was not necessary. but i wish i could receive the tower, some days i do receive it, some days not...

  • Was leaving the squelch open necessary?

  • Actually they made an approach like any commercial liner. During that time commercial traffic was not closed on the airport. So it is mandatory to use the regular frequency thus other planes know what is going on to avoid collisions.

All what is being said here is the same as commercial planes are saying when doing their approach, only difference is the call sign being used. More sensitive messages are passed using safe means i guess.

  • BTW at that times there were dozens of military helicopters and planes in the air and the weeks before the french army deployed anti-missile systems all around Strasbourg.

  • umm no... are you retarded?

  • Pretty Cool!!!

    Thankx 4 Posting This!!!

    Is a Unique Video!!!

  • too bad we couldnt here the tower ,thanks for sharing Max

  • Yep that's bad, some days i can receive both tower and plane. But this day there was to much jam on the frequency... BTW the airport where Air Force One should land was kept secret until the last minute. I was quite surprised when i heard it, i thought they would kept their radio shut down, but actually they made an approach procedure like any regular flight !

    Thanks for commenting ! :)

  • OK, let's make an exchange, you take Sarkozy and we keep Obama !

  • BTW, Bush was America's big mistake !
