I don't dig the horn section- they're out of tune, and the alto player sounds a bit like David Sanborn being strangled in a dark alley somewhere in New Jersey. Snoop's OK, but he doesn't leave enough space for my tastes. The horns crowd up the groove just a bit as well IMHO- funk is all about space in the music (kind of like Brazilian music- complexity as the result of carefully interwoven simplicity). They did get the tempo right- got to keep it slow-ish for it to funk hard.
@timedmusic the massive horn sections are always like that when old funk songs are played live in this day time ive noticed, i think its just b/c its just hired studio musicians
If you want to hear this song the way it should be performed then search the song title with "brother's johnson" or "louis johnson" or "george Johnson."
@atl2kaj Quincy co-wrote the tune with Louis and George Johnson. One could make the case that Quincy Jones is the most prolific arranger and producer of the modern era; he and Oliver Nelson are nothing short of amazing (and Klaus Ogerman and that Lalo Schifrin are pretty cool, too). None of these gentlemen are household names, yet without them we have less great music; I guarantee someone like John Williams has studied all their work more than once.
@timedmusic George Clinton and Bernie Worrell could be added to that list, they've had their hands in ludicrous amounts of music. George also produced the best (in my opinion) RHCP album (Freaky Styley).
Not to downgrade those you mentioned, obviously, they've been very influential as well (and Quincy produced a nice little treat in Rashida Jones!)
wanna hear something funny I puke through the entire song in reality :D I just felt oh fuck, too much beer and food, and all shit came out crazy, I made it to the toilet though :D and now it's time for some weed to even it out :D
Why do so many of the male singers today hold their crotch. They have to take a piss or something, or are they so self conscious about their dicks that they have to hold on to it to remind themselves and us that they have one? What is that shyte all about anyway?
tupac and snoop are the best. no one can say different.

Quincy Jones, nothing. That is Brother's Johnson. Credit should be given where it is due. Just damn.

Nice job Snoop. But the o-cut was done right back in the day and no update or improvement is needed.
Did Snoop try to throw a little Boosty'esque in this performance on top of it?
