  • i never understood why my school had marching trombones... same fingerings as a baritone, and the baritone sounds 1000 times better. stupid investment... one of the trombone players played a Euph for Marching band because his marching bone was in the shop most of the season.

  • "bugles"have conical bores-the tubing gradually enlarges, whereas most American band brasses have cylindrical bores-makes a difference in tonal quality.

  • An on-field adaptation of the Blast! version..... i'm loving it

  • this just doesn't even hold a candle to madison scouts

  • okay syncopation..

  • Ha nice try Cadets but this isn't 1988

  • @gbe123321 I like this because it sounds like the Cadets, not some rip off of Madison.

  • Excellent mallet work.

  • Nastiest DRUM LINE!!!

  • i play trombone AND baritone like a BOSS!

  • @Jessealexbres I've been looking for it ALL day today!!! Can't find it anywhere!!! D: Message me if you find it please!

  • Phantom should have done a lot better at least 2nd or 3rd

  • anyone know where i can find that lead trumpet part??

  • Point at the judge after the quad solo. HELL YESSS

  • 88 and 96 Scouts were better in my opinion. I just feel like you need G bugles to really do that song justice.

  • @Marix54888 get over it. My band switched to baritones starting this year for marching season.... I actually like it..... All professional bands have their trombones switched to baritones..... It's just the way it goes.

  • Ahh... nothing like the super-ego's of Drum Corps players dissing each other on YouTube.

  • @trapshooter97 81 scouts for me

  • I love it when the drumline "UHNS" the judge in his face at 2:30 xD

  • @ImEverythingYouCrave mmhmm. nasty.

  • 2:50 is where it is

  • Hot damn drumline! Those are some nice clean beats!

  • I'm a mad Cadets fanatic but Malagueña belongs to the Madison Scouts.

  • nobody but Madison can really pull off Malaguena. Sorry to everybody else that has tried to do it and will try.

  • There you go trumpets

  • @trapshooter97 duh xD

  • massante ,muito massa ,ja ate malabarista

    *-*

  • ive seen high school bands play this song more intense than how they played it

  • @jongoeyong

    Like who?

  • @VMFA115Starloric Homewood

  • @jongoeyong

I guess they had what you interpret as intensity in sacrifice of tone quality, articulation, balance, blend and basic marching technique even...

There's never a comparison between a band and a corps.

  • @VMFA115Starloric Homewood is playing a clip of Malaguena this year and maybe the entire thing next year, I hope. The band has really grown since then (about 180ish total 2007 to around 320 today). I did say intensity, not quality. Bands can have more intensity than a drum corps sometimes, but I do agree that there is never a comparison between a band and a corps in terms of sound and marching quality.

  • Several Companies make marching French Horns and they could be used in Drum Corps Today if any wanted to. When the Blue Devils played 2 valve Gs they didn't have mellos and played Flugals and Frenchies for their Midrange.

  • drum corps only use valved, front facing horns. so no trombones, french horns, or sousa's

  • i'm really disappointed that you even made the comment about trombones. DCI never uses them

  • No, Drum Corps use Baritones instead. Much richer tone.

  • @Marix54888 Damn, man, so actually the drums are not used trombones, because I do not know, but I think that is why they have melophones, but was very mad that show.

  • @thedypunisher They have marching baritones so no trombones baritones have same sound as trombones really

  • @TheJugernaut9 I really dont think they have the same sound. Baritones DO have a much richer tone... dont get me wrong I love trombone, its a fun instrument, but not for corps.

  • @TheJugernaut9 if you think trombones and baritones have the same sound and timbre then u gotta grow some ears brah

  • Comment removed

  • @thedypunisher WTF did i just read? Do you speak english?

  • @thedypunisher Wrong. Mellophones are high brass instruments. Plus, baritones would be the 'equivalent'. Too bad they're better though lol.

  • @thedypunisher Well I found out very recently that there is such a thing as a bell front marching trombone. 3 valved, no slide

  • @THE3FATGUYS Its not a marching trombone. Its Maynard Ferguson's invention of being able to incorporate the ability of changing notes in the same fashion of a trumpet on a trombone. It is used almost exclusively in jazz and almost exclusively by jazz soloists.

  • @Marix54888 No. Drum Corps use baritones. Heres why: #1, MUCH richer tone, and therefore sounds fifty times better on malaguena, #2, trombones have smaller bores than baritones and have a much smaller dynamic range, and #3, you can't march very well with them because you have to use your entire upper body's range of motion to change notes, and they stick out about 4 feet in front of your face and someone can get their head taken off.

  • @DongleKumquat Also some Drum Corps use marching euphoniums along with the baritones in case there isn't enough sound or tone cutting through because baritones are actually a lot brighter than marching euphoniums

  • @DongleKumquat lol bullshit on #1 and #2. Last year me and another trombone player dominated the field. Our tone was so good the judge didn't know whether or not we were the baritone section lol. and for #1. Well there was one part of the show where we played FFF. All one of the judge's said was "oh!" and he was silent for the next 5 seconds. We literally overpowered our entire 60+ band...and that was just two of us. btw We were marching .500 bores. and 6 1/2 mouthpieces. nothing special

  • @psgchisolm There's your problem - 60+ band. My high school's 9 person baritone section completely buried the rest of our 250 person band, including a 20-man trombone section, on a daily basis.

  • @VerdantBlue Your band just has some weak players. This year(being the only trombone player) my mf was heard over the entire band at one section. The judge said i was too loud and i had to lower my dynamic to piano and i was still easily heard. I can say the same for all our brass sections. You can really only hear 1/2 people out of the 2/3 man sections. the sad thing is we produce 60% of the sound Drums 20% Saxes 15% all other woodwinds 5%. It's just that our band has weak players.

  • @DongleKumquat

Actually, no, trombones are not used simply because they aren't a bugle-type instrument...

  • @Marix54888

They just did.... DCI bans Sousaphones and Trombones as they are not bell-front bugle instruments.

  • @Marix54888 Dear trombones,

Stop complaining about not being in DCI. Go learn baritone.

    -Sincerely,

    The Woodwinds

  • @Marix54888 drum corps only use bell front valved instruments (also why there are no sousaphones)

  • @Marix54888 But, you can do Malaguena with Baritones.
