That seems like a reasonable way to end suffering, people who hated each other would realize that they hated each other, how much it hurts the other to be hated, and subsequently stop hating each other. What about aspirations and ambitions, would we still have/need those, as they are usually relative to others?

@isawrluna I think what you described is how instrumentality should work in theory, but the way it's ultimately depicted at the end of the movie suggests otherwise, specifically, the minds of Shinji, Asuka, Misato and Rei yelling at each other. That implies maintaining a sense of self, to the point that Shinji could leave whenever he wanted, which he ultimately does. I find the instrumentality as shown in the movie to be a rather disagreeable sort of environment to be in.
