It is just a way to openly give our opinion of how ridiculous religion is. No different then baptism is just a way for u to openly symbolize your belief. I was baptized when i was 12...one of the biggest regrets in my life. I cant wait to get de-baptized!!
That was a good time, I was happy to not only participate in the ceremony, but also to sign a few debaptism certificates! It was light-hearted fun, but for some of us it represented an outward "confession" that we just don't believe in the supernatural [anymore] and don't intent to live as if we do. We feel "It's okay to be an atheist".
It is a sad state of affairs to me when reality needs a defense, no one need wonder why such a thing is important.
Atheists crack me up. If God and baptism is a useless thing to be mocked, why take the time to provide an "antidote" such as de-baptism?? Makes no sense. Why do they spend so much time trying to prove that there is no God if He is not real?? I don't believe in aliens. Do I make it my life mission to mock the believers or go on a mission to de-humanize those people? No. Aliens are not real. Period. End of story. My take on Atheists is that there are none. They know God is real.
Its not disturbing, it is what it is. We are animals after all.
That said, I find debaptism just as pointless as baptism. It is still entertaining, but to attend one seems weird too me. Then again, I am a full blooded atheist... I was never baptized. ;)
Funny how you blame Athiests as its their life's mission to try say God is not real, When nobody persecutes better than a Christian. Who constantly dehumanize and demonize anyone who follows different beleifs than them like they did to the Pagans and Native Americans etc.
This is great.

Because it is fun and entertaining. And yes, we think god is real, we just enjoy to watch your anger. Its fun.

I am an atheist and I approve of this message. At least most of it, all except the last two sentences.
What you are seeing is a particularly disturbing aspect of human behavior, called flinging shit at the other monkeys. This is seriousl stupid shit.

Dude in the wheelchair popped a wheely! I've never heard of a debaptism ceremony and think it's rather cool.
