@17pixel We had a toyota dyna diesel for 30 years and it always ran with over twice the weight limit. It never broke down and we only scrapped it due to rust.
It's usually not becouse of overfill. Your turbo broke, and the oil pump pumped up oil for the broken turbo. The oil get's into the intake pipe, and into the engine. Diesel doesn't nee sparks for working, so it work until you ran out of oil. Thats suck. You couldn't do anythig if it has automatic gearbox. (sorry for mistakes)
@ririaron I just finished fixing a diesel that was over full in the sump from about 1.5 litres of diesel fuel that had leaked internally into the oil, causing it to run away.
Stick into top gear, handbrake ON, normal brakes ON (unless it really is too smoky) dump the clutch, hope. Or if it doesn't stop, or you have a slush box, or your fancy electronic gearbox says 'no', plug the air intake and wait for it to suffocate. I had to do it to a mates Jeep, idiot had a automatic. Scary, putting your hand so close to the racing engine, but far far better than it grenading and peppering you with bits of valve, crank case, sump, con rod, piston and other hot, fast, shrapnel.
открываешь капот и пассатижами пережимаешь топливный шланг, или трубку топливную... такое бывает у дизелей, особенно если двигатель старый и не ухоженный.
shame could have been saved if its a manual put it in the highest gear and let the clutch straigh up with the brake pressed. if that fails block the air intake oh well
@MSLTUL Yup, turn key off, don't matter, no ignition system in a diesel so unless you got an air knife to choke it, it shuts itself off...when it blows.
This is what happens when the turbo bushings get worn out and the engine sucks its own oil in through the intake manifold. The only way you can stop it is to put in gear (5) , hold the brake firmly down, and release the clutch. Otherwise you'll just idly sit there like an idiot and watch your engine disintegrate itself :)
in the 1960,s alot of busses used to do this, they motor burning their own oil, the drivers used to stuff their cap up the exhaust to try and stop it, but it only made things worse, you had to try and still it, even then the engine didnt last long after that.
@magnusm4 Diesel is more "Green" than Gas, Yes. That is correct. The "Smoke" is carbon, that settles to the ground, it's the same as decomposing plant matter, and there's much less of the harmful emissions gassers put out. Diesels also are capable of better MPGs. A Turbo Diesel car can get better MPGs than hybrid gassers, and without large banks of batteries more toxic to make and recycle than Toyota etc... leads people to believe.
@magnusm4 its true Fucktard..........the black smoke is Soot which falls to the ground. Plus Diesel Engines use less Fuel then then Equal Sized Gas engines.
@welderboy14 The black stuff also goes in your lungs and sits there. Apparently, a minute of breathing that in is equivalent to 18 months smoking 15 a day.
@magnusm4 there is NO fuel that isnt green. even coal is ultra green. global warming is a hoax and every single scientist unanimously agrees. "green" is made up to scare us back to the stone age.
People are right in that she should have tried to stall it if it were a stick, but what if it were an auto? The Previa is also mid-engined, I'd probably be floundering around trying to find the intake on that sucker! Man that is a horrible scenario!
@WunderHuse - Wouldn't stop the billowing smoke. The engine in running on its own oil and when this happens, you can't switch it off. The only way of stopping it is to cover the intake on the engine to starve it of air.
@dauer962roadcar or stall the car, top gear clutch dump foot on the brake handbrake up. i've had to do that before on dickheads in carparks... however if you have an auto, your way is correct
The turbine failed, it let the engine lube get into the intake, so the engine didn't need diesel anymore. When this happens, the engine will redline untill it runs out of oil or it catastophically fails, whichever comes first. Usually the second. It's by far the worst case scenario for a diesel. To stop it you eather put it in high gear and pop the clutch, or plug up the air intake with a rag.
@TheGamerPalace, no it doesn't run on glow plugs. Those are only used for starting, when it runs the glow plugs are not working. They are only actived when starting.
if that happens again, jam hand brake and foot brake on, and then try to stall it by using top gear to pull away. or if you have a CO2 extinguisher, spray CO2 into the intake.
haha :] 1st thing happened is turbo went off.. Then filled up the oil in the colector, oil started to burn fast, so got big rpm and fucked up. Wag group have an solution for this, so it wouldnt happen to vw or audi :]
point taken, i was just referring to experience as we had to start a humvees that flipped in afghanistan and sat upside down for 12 hrs, we just held a piece of flat wood over the intake pipe when the engine ran away on us and it slowly choked itself out, but hey im no mechanic
@TheGamerPalace Its quite simple to understand that turning it off woth the key is pointless. Diesel is an oil, so when there is too much oil in the engine it weeps into the turbo and the engine will run on its own oil, as the only limit is time the engine will run until it blows or seizes. so turning it off is not very easy or simple.
@mitsucanter247365 If you turn it off it wont blow or seizes. Just drain out the oil and kaboom problem solve. Common sense win again. @mitsucanter247365 Ok, never heard of that, but im pretty sure if you turn it off with the key it will cut the the electrical, also the coil or distributor. Leaving the car without spark, so the car shouldnt keep turning over, but hey i dont know anything of diesel cars, so i will look up on diesel car running on its own oil, maybe i will learn something new today.
@TheGamerPalace A diesel engine doesnt require a spark. It uses heat for the combustion, thats why you have glow plugs on diesels. The fuel is cut off on the pump with a solenoid when the key is off, but if oil is getting into the intake say from a blown turbo seal, it will use the oil as a fuel and as there is no limit to the oil supply available at that time it will redline until the engine fails.
@mitsucanter247365 sorry, a glow plug only heats up once per starting of the engine, once the combustion chamber is warmed, the fuel ignites and the following combustion keeps it hot for the next.
We had a guy work for us once at an engine reconditioneing workshop, fully rebuilt engine that he installed (£2000) and he got 2 pipes the wrong way round. car was on a ramp with no wheels on so stalling it was difficult, but it used its own oil and a piston decided to leave the engine. costly!
@mitsucanter247365 O ok. Wow, i never knew diesel engine ran on glows plugs, I always wonder how the hell my gas rc car kept running after the start. I usually work on small engine like 4 and 2 stroke, And i know how alot about engine in general. And i thought the diesel engine was similar to a regular gas fueled cars. So the only real way to turn it off is by suffocating it. Sucks for diesel engine users. Thank for the info.
