If you are going to sell something, make it worth buying. Don't come crying saying that piracy is making you lose money when most people wouldn't buy it anyway.
@outstandingpajamas If the copied money is literally exactly the same, then it wouldn't matter which you kept, and it wouldn't be stealing. Much better than the official version in my opinion! Cute arrangement, and Nina Paley's vocals have so much more character than whoever's singing the new version. Thanks!
I see a lot of people saying that copying = lost revenue.
Okay, now, read this:
In a working perfect socialist society, since creative or intellectual goods cannot be assigned a value directly like food or tools, the people decide the value of it by "donating" or paying the author/creator in some way.
Nina Paley does this by selling DVDs, and it has actually earned her quite a bit ($3000, her seller medium keeps $27000).
She's using the aforementioned ideal art distribution model.
@wc1hater In a perfect socialist society I get fluffy bunnies catering to my every need because there is no such thing as a perfect socialist society. Just because this idiot makes money from begging for it while people steal her music doesn't mean that it's a workable model. And of course, her $3000 (wow! she can totally pay three months rent on that - four months if she doesn't eat) would be so much bigger if everyone wasn't just copying her stupid DVDs at her encouragement.
@marlowe123100 This kind of scared you, huh? It's OK - the totalitarians will ensure that everyone's "property" is protected - and they will define "property" as broadly as they possibly can, except in circumstances where it is not to their benefit (eminent domain?)The USA doesn't have the largest prison system in the world for nothing! It's good to be the king, huh chief?
Well, a) people are making software for a living, they deserve compensation if you use their product, and, b) it is stealing because you're not paying for the service of them making said software.
The main argument is, is revenue actually lost since most of the time pirated games/movies would have 90% of the time not been bought? I've found i buy things that i would haev bought anyway, and pirating things before buying encourages me more to buy. Trying things before you buy them weeds out spending cash on shit items/content. Plain and simple, if you want your product to sell make sure it is quality and the price is right.
so on a more hilarious note than arguing whether copying an idea someone worked hard to create is right, wrong or fun; I thought I'd say this song is pretty shitty.
Considering the dollar is nothing more then a worthless piece of paper backed by nothing but the will of the US government, I'd say its not theft at all. Google "Fiat Money" if you are not convinced, and see for yourself what your precious dollar really is. Its not worth more then the paper and ink that is used to print it. Gold is money. Dollars are a fantasy made up by the government.
@eduardkhilify i know about "fiat money" and also about how some people think that "gold" is money. Gold is an precious metal that has to mined from the earth. And although gold has been used as money, along with other metals, and 'paper money' throughout the centuries, the world power in charge deems what our legal tender should be, and if it's fiat money, than 'fiat money' it is.
@eduardkhilify I personally don't concern myself with fiat money, gold, or whatever 'money' was used, or what might be used in the future. The 'future' of money will probably be something else entirely, something that we can't imagine just yet.
@knotwrite nobody gets paid either. How would game & movie creators 'create' without the hardware and software needed for them to create? The technology they need to make something takes not only intelligent humans but money as well.
@dimllc This argument has been brought up countless times, but the basic gist is that pirates aren't likely to buy that content anyways. I just recently torrented Paranormal Activity 2 since Netflix didn't have it available. Would I have bought it? Nope. But I was slightly interested in seeing whether or not it stacked up to the original.
Without pirating, people would still simply not buy things they weren't terribly interested in.
@knotwrite That's an interesting train of thought. You would not have bought the movie, yet you were interested in watching it. So you found a way to get something of value or 'interest' to you, without having to pay for it?
@knotwrite I think that you're right in a way, but if piratebay and such never existed people would probably never gotten that thought of things, i mean before pirating people actually did buy things, the only reason you are not buying things is because in this society, you dont have to anymore.
hmm i guess copying another game and sell it for cheap is not stealing according to this, so this video encourage people to be a pirating whore.
this video is full of bullshit. copying is theft. when a game industry spent millions of dollars and have lots of employees working on a game they expect income, but noooo too many kids doesn't realize how hard it is to make games, so they pirate the games like little freaks.
@Jinseual You relize that if someone Pirates a game, chances are they had no plans of buying it, and the company who makes the game looses nothing.
In a way, the used game industry is MUCH, MUCH worse than the piracy industry. So many people buy used games instead of new ones because Gamestop knocks 5-10 dollars off the price. Those are ACTAUL LOST SALES unlike piracy.
@Tyson0395 i see what you mean, so that means everyone must pirate so the game industry looses nothing, and gain no profits. and therefore the money invested into making the games will never come back to the industry falls and in the future games would start growing from trees. good job you are definitely a visionary. and the other thing what is wrong with buying used games?
@Jinseual People who pirate games often have no intention of buying the game, though. People who buy games will continue to pay for their products. Used sales, on the other hand, area huge problem which cause companies to loose millions in revenue unlike pirating, since not only do they not receive profit they would have otherwise, but unlike pirates they have to continue with the online server upkeep for these people.
Art is communist. No Republican can do anything about this. What you put out to the world as art, belongs to the world as culture. If you don't like it, don't make art.
"Imitation is the highest form of flattery". So if you are a true artist you'd be flattered that your art is being copied. If youre greedy bussinesman then thats a different story.
whatever the situation/argument is, this phenomenon will continue to exist.. it will continue up to the future till there is a better sharing system invented. i doubt it if there is something or someone that can stop it. but if there is, i would just have to live with it. this thing is up to the peoples own judgement and perception knowing both sides of the situation.
Sharing should be voluntary to the creator. Copying something that someone else made against their will is unethical. If you want something that someone else made, and they don't give it to you for free, then you should invest the same time and energy that they did. Then you will have it for yourself, and it will be fair to everyone. All of these arguments I see boil down to "I have the capability to copy this against your will, and I don't care how you feel about it, even though you made it."
one common misconception is that online piracy is stealing, its not, its sharing:)) it shouldn't be even called piracy cause they don't steal anything, they just copy it and share it to others. such a beautiful value it teaches us hahaha:D it may only violate copyright law which is a law only made by greedy selfish people.
@neroZ77 - This isn't the issue being presented. There is a difference between stealing and a lost sale. If every lost sale were theft, a bad review of a multi-million dollar movie might as well be grand larceny.
There are laws in place to protect the rights of authors, and they should be pursuing the enforcement of their rights on their own, through civil court. However, criminalizing the exchange of ideas infringes on the consumer's right to free speech.
The problem with Americans, I have realised, is not the fact that they are ignorant. The truly scary thing, is the degree to which you adamantly desire to remain so.
Copying IS theft. Taking away money from peoples works. BUT, a software should be copyrighted protected for a period of a reasonable amount of time for artists to make they money (a year or two ) then put to public domain.
The problem with Americans, I have realised, is not the fact that they are ignorant. The truly scary thing, is the degree to which you adamantly desire to remain so.
I'm a supporter of open source, but this is idiotic. Using a true, but superficial, statement to spread a false concept. What about the cost of making the original copy? Who's gonna pay for that? And what would motivate people to create anything original. Of course. money isn't the only motivation out there, but it's neither illegal nor unethical for someone to be motivated by money among other things to do his job.
@aveyowyns Thats retarded. Just because I copy your credit card doesnt mean youll lose anything. Just copying down some information. Just like copying digital data.
Abstract things cannot be retarded. If I could trust that you weren't going to use my credit card information to steal what I have, then of course, I COULD give you my info - strictly for having it.
If everyone copied a friends bike, there would be no bikes. Because the bike factory would of closed.
Which is using the logic of this video to the same extreme.
Copyright theft steals money out of the creators pockets, which funds new research and development. So copying is actually stealing from future developments. The less profit the creator makes, the less incentive there is to create.
Copiers just want a free ride off other peoples backs. So long as others pay, they're fine with it.
If 1 person copied 1. There would be no problem. If everyone copied from 1. There is no point in making the original 1.
If 50% of those sold were copied again. Then bus companies would lose money & the original bike manufacturer would lose money. Making them less profitable. Would taxes rise to support bus companies and to support those put out of work in the bike factory?
@AveryMorrow The idea that people spend money else where is also crazy, does that make the manufacturer of the original copied bikes any better off if they use the money to buy a shirt?
Except not everyone can make a bike, and some people would rather SPEND money in exchange of the effort it would take to make one. If I have the materials, I should be entitled to model a bike from a copyrighted patent, as if I were to buy the bike for the producers, I would be buying the product, NOT the idea of the bike.
It hinders the development of ideas as ideas are built off of ideas, and if no one is allowed to borrow ideas, our creativity becomes stagnant or reserved only for the elite.
but this is a 1 example but the copyright law is to make the people who made the movies and games get more money if they don't make much money they will stop making movies games music i tend to copy games to play them like a demo if i like the game i will buy it same with movies but if i like it i buy it for a friend to watch
Only 88 dislikes Vs 1958 likes. This video makes perfect sense and the benefits of copying are that more things will get created. It shouldn't be looked at as stealing, because the majority will make NO money from it. Let's make stuff..Let's create...Let's share.. Most of us wouldn't care anyway. It's the digital age we live in and something we will have to get used to. A change in culture, behaviour and thinking is required from selected people.
Hmmm, a cute piece she made there, though a bit of an oversimplification.
I feel that the issue lies less in the piracy vs. sharing topic, but more in the fact that when the internet first came about, we (silly humans) were totally unaware of the full ramifications that its implementation would have on our society.
If your referring to pirating a movie or video game, your not stealing the media its self your (essentially) stealing the money that the developer would have had if you bought said media.
@HipHopJun the truth is that buying CDs doesnt give money to artists, it gives money to the record companies. Most artists make most of their money when they go on tour. So, if you want to support them go see them in concert. I may be a Pirates but at least I'm not a homophobe. You're just an ignorant little shit...have fun giving your money away for no reason :)
@The80sKickAss And who do you think makes the concerts happen? It all goes round and round and in the end, supports whatever musician.
By the way, if that is your only argument then what about video games? How else would devs be making money if it wasn't for the people that buy their product? Like I said, this song and everything it stands for is FLAWED. Piracy is wrong. You can spin it anyway you like but in the end all you're doing is belittling people's talent.
@HipHopJun do you realize how much money video game developers houses make? they make one physics and graphics engine and they use it for 2-3 years. The first game they put out covers the cost of that and the rest of the time they phone it in because they know they can slap any first person shooter together and someone will buy it. if you think they start from scratch on every game they make, you're kidding yourself. but are the games cheaper? no they aren't.
@The80sKickAss Oh and I guess story, character, and level design don't mean shit, right? It's just worthless drivel to you. Red Dead Redemption used the same exact engine from GTA 4, yet look how much of a great game it is!
Something being out of your financial range is NO excuse to shoop da whoop the creator out of their profit. People like you are the reason cheap casual games are on a huge rise. You pirates DISGUST me. This attitude is OUTRAGEOUS. You should be ashamed of yourself.
@HipHopJun hahaha go take the stick out of your ass. But yea, you do things your way. I'll do things mine. For some reason I have a feeling I'm going to be a lot happier and spend less money :)
The record companies have almost nothing to do with concerts douche. Those are set up through agents and the venues. If the artist is really famous than yea the the record company will put out money especially if they're trying to sell the new CD the artist made. But at that point that artist is raking in tons of cash, do they really need your support? I'm all for supporting local artist. But I think Lady Gaga and Eminem wont be in the poor house if I copy their CD.
@molewizard So then according to you, preventing a sale is the same as stealing. Interesting. If thats the case, then preventing, say, a pizza shop from selling 5 pizzas by buying 1 for yourself and sharing it with your friends, is preventing them from making 4 more sales and thus your friends are stealing pizza. Thats going by the exact same logic. "And one less bought from the bike company". But in this case, its "And four less bought from the pizza shop".
@darthsonicjk Well, no, since you're actively giving them the product, to begin with. You do not copy those pizza slices to them, you GIVE them away. Almost like a second hand sale.
In any case, it doesn't equate to one less pizza sold, since you're each getting less pizza; To get the same amount, you'd need to order 5 pizzas, and share them all out.
@molewizard So then if you could make perfect copies of the pizza rather than giving away limited slices, you'd be quick to jump and change the law just because the customer gained the ability to share what they legally bought, an unlimited amount of times?
Because this song isn't saying to take a copy from the source/music artist/movie producer, its saying that a customer buys something digital, and their friends are getting copies of it. The source isn't even part of the picture anymore.
@darthsonicjk Why is the source not part of the picture?
If you want a non-digital example, say I bought a yo-yo. I then began to make copies of this particular brand of yo-yo, and I sold them or gave them away. By copies here, I mean I replicate the original design with a mould & such. This is just as illegal as the digital equivalent, and rightfully so.
@darthsonicjk First off you're talking about an actual physical item. "Copying is not theft" Talks about digital distribution of items, not pizza, a real life item. According by your logic, molewizard, pizza is not meant to be shared. So on Sundays when the football game is on, pizza company's are writing down their lost profit because all the people who ordered whole pizzas that include 5 slices per pie, did not buy a pizza for each of their friends because hes going to share it.
@headstrongpnk101 I know its talking about digital items. And im saying the law should be no different for them than it is for physical goods. A good is a good. When you buy it, it belongs to you. Digital, or Physical. Sharing what you have, either digital or physical, only causes Theoretical Losses for companies, not direct losses.
@molewizard I used to think that as well, but check this.
Customer A is thinking about buying Game X. Someone else bought it and is sharing it for free via torrent, so he decides to download it instead.
Customer B is thinking about buying Game X. Game Z comes along, and he buys that instead. Wouldn't that also be a direct loss? He -intended- to buy Game X, just like Customer A. He was about to buy it, but changed his mind. Why shouldn't he be punished? Isn't that a direct loss as well?
@darthsonicjk Interesting perspective, but I don't think so.
The loss has been made by someone creating a better alternative. This is loss by competition, and in the end, one game company still gets the proceeds from customer B; The one with the best game.
@molewizard And in example A, the loss has been made by someone who already bought the game and is sharing it. This is loss by competition as well, whether you realize it or see it that way or not. In this case, the person sharing the game with customer A isn't even making any money off of the transaction.
Now tell me another thing, would you rather build up a fanbase willing to buy your future games + merchandise; or never gain any customers at all by losing to the competition?
It is not fair to profit from someone else's ideas, is it? Especially without asking their permission?
Now, remove money from the equation, is it fair to use someone else's idea in such a way as that person does not get their just reward for it? I do not think so.
In any case, it's not competition. You're effectively taking their money and throwing it down the drain. You are "stealing" their idea, and distributing it seperately.
@molewizard Why should someone be paid/rewarded for everytime someone uses their idea or product? Thats a bit selfish if you ask me. Using is not the same as buying.
Does an author get paid every time you lend someone a book? Does a gas station take money from every person you ever give a ride to?
Whether you lend someone a game, or give them a copy, you are sharing what -you- own. It takes -your- time and money to make a copy for a friend, not the game publishers or developers.
@darthsonicjk Lending someone a game is not the same as copying it. Lending is generally considered totally legal.
In any case, you didn't answer the question directly. If piracy is legal, how do companies make money off their games, and more importantly, with no guarenteed return, how does one go about convincing someone to develop a game?
@darthsonicjk To clear it up, to lend someone something, you have to lose posession of it, and thus if both of you wanted posession at the same time, you would have to buy another. When you buy a physical product, this is implicit, because you CAN'T both have posession at the same time.
@darthsonicjk And whether I would rather allow piracy or not is MY choice, and has no bearing on the law. I can choose to pursue pirates if I want to, I don't have to. If I think it builds up a fanbase, great, I can allow it. But what if I don't?
The law only caters to both points of view if it disallows piracy.
Let's assume piracy is allowed. Anyone can download a copied game from the internet. How do companies make money off their games, and more importantly, with no guarenteed return, how does one go about convincing someone to develop a game?
@darthsonicjk The key part here is someone came up with a better idea than the first. Therefore, idea 1 deserves to have some of its income deferred to idea 2.
Don't you consider anything that I am, saying? Humans need to hear what I have to say because humans have been feed lies by the establishment churches. I do not have your accusation, and to have an accusation is not a good thing knowing where accusations originate from.
This is a good video.God copy's everything on this planet in trees, flowers, Animals, and human animals , and many more things that are seemingly endless.God loves to copy. Therefore what can possibly be wrong with copying.
When you think about it in the beginning God gave us the fruit of the tree, and it was free to pick from the tree. All things in the beginning were free, and humans made the concept of money not God.
@TheSeventiethSeven It is sad that the established religions have given a negative view about God.God is the one who made us,and gave finite man good things, and eternity around us. God wants us to love each other. love is eternal, and hate has an end being self destructive. You exist therefore Jesus exists, hopefully in you to love whoever. Devil exists too,=death. God who is Jesus=life, and the devil is the accuser, condemner, giver of guilt, hate, and why we have death. Man=finite, God= infinite.
@kobidobidog You realize that what you said has nothing to do with TheSeventiethSeven's comment, right? It appears that you are so blinded by your religion that you can't perceive anything other than religion.
Maybe you should consider replacing yourself with a robot that spouts religious nonsense all the time. It would save you a lot of work, and the robot would definitely have a much greater chance of passing the Turing Test than you.
@PetercAW The sabbath was made for man,and not man for the sabbath, and that is because God is immortal, and we are finite, and mortal, and God took that into consideration with the wording in the the bible. Love is the foundation of the bible, and that has not been taught, and had it been over history our history would not be blood stained like it is.The nonsense is, and has been taught for far to long by the established organized religions.I understand why you have a pessimistic view of religion.
@kobidobidog See? It's like talking to a chatbot. Do you have a text file filled with these sermons so that you can just slap one down on every video you see?
@kobidobidog It's not that I disagree with what you're saying, it's just that the manner in which you're saying it is so incredibly annoying (not to mention that there's no reason for you to say it on this particular video!) that I couldn't help but comment on it.
@TheSeventiethSeven because you exist. Will you take me for that or tell you a loving humans who loves no mater what is Gods spirit, and humans who hates no matter what is the spirit of the devil, and eternity=God,and finite things is evidence of man. The one who loves no matter what has heaven in them, and is forgiving. The one who has not God is not forgiving. The forgiving one will survive when God says let there be light, and the one who refuses to love will be turned to ashes body ,and soul.
@TheSeventiethSeven You can't see the forest through the trees, and the fact that you are alive for the moment standing next to a tree, and rock, and dinosaur bones. None of which would be here because of man. This universe is way bigger than you are,and a bigger being made it. My advice for you,is to love all even the zoosexuals, and even your enemy, and be ready for when the light that made all that man did not make shines again, and it will.
@TheSeventiethSeven You are blind. you eat the gifts you never made, and turn them to shit, and because you do you think Of God in liker manner thinking the gift giver does not exist. The fool has said in his heart that gift giver does not exist.
@TheSeventiethSeven (one):people who have the love of God beyond understanding in them have God in their soul looking out of them. Then good words will come out of them. Not having God, and bad words, actions will come out of that person. The once who have God will be persecuted, oppressed dehumanized made to feel guilty, abused in every way possible calling the abuse good killing them calling it good.Humans will naturally be in opposition to that spirit of life because we naturally kill life.
@TheSeventiethSeven Humans do not see like Gods sees. We are physical, and God is not physical. How can you accept the things you make, and not accept the one who made what you did not make?
@TheSeventiethSeven I'm not mad .The problem is in your corner being as blind as a bat with out sonar. You act as if humans are the reason for whatever existing. Humans are zigzagging through what God made.putting buildings on the life God made, strip mining what God made. Have humans obliterate what God made with all the seeds that God made, and finite boastful man could no more bring back life than all the kings horses, and all the kings men not being able to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
@TheSeventiethSeven You can't tell me what I feel. There is a beam in your eye the size of Tennessee. God is light, and no one created light. Our sun is here in place of that light for the moment, and if you want to do bad to anyone calling it good your body ,and soul will not survive that light. I would say it would be the better part of valor to love whoever, and give God the glory for it whether or not you believe verbally whether God exists or not, Agreed?
@kobidobidog Well, maybe there is a God, maybe there isn't.
I've decided not to believe in him until I have evidence, but if believing in God makes you a better person, go right ahead, I just disagree with the brain washing of children and the attitude of evangelicals.
@TheSeventiethSeven I see God in nature, the infinite universe above, and in humans who are oppressed, and persecuted. I think I have been to hard on you,and not focusing on what really matters, and that is being good to others even as you want to be good to yourself, and loving other even as you love yourself, and being honest, wise, harmless, a peace maker, forgiving, temperate, patient, kind, merciful, long suffering, and loving,is what really matters, and the rest will get ironed out in the end.
@kobidobidog Well, maybe there is a God, maybe there isn't.
I've decided not to believe in him until I have evidence, but if believing in God makes you a better person, go right ahead, I just disagree with the brain washing of children and the attitude of evangelicals.
@TheSeventiethSeven The evangelicals you do not like are the same ones I do no like. I do not belong to any of them. The one I did defend though is Eddy Long. He began to support the gay,and encountered heavy opposition, and at that point I supported Eddy with everything I had.

The 'future' of money will probably be something else entirely, something that we can't imagine just yet.
dimllc 3 months ago
@dimllc When you counterfeit money, you're almost certainly going to use the copied money to buy something, which damages the economy.
When you copy something (like a movie or game), most people don't end up selling said copy. They just use it. Nobody gets hurt.
knotwrite 3 months ago
@knotwrite nobody gets paid either. How would game & movie creators 'create' without the hardware and software needed for them to create? The technology they need to make something takes not only intelligent humans but money as well.
dimllc 3 months ago
@dimllc This argument has been brought up countless times, but the basic gist is that pirates aren't likely to buy that content anyways. I just recently torrented Paranormal Activity 2 since Netflix didn't have it available. Would I have bought it? Nope. But I was slightly interested in seeing whether or not it stacked up to the original.
Without pirating, people would still simply not buy things they weren't terribly interested in.
knotwrite 3 months ago
@knotwrite That's an interesting train of thought. You would not have bought the movie, yet you were interested in watching it. So you found a way to get something of value or 'interest' to you, without having to pay for it?
I'm not a judge or jury in this debate.
dimllc 3 months ago

Jinseual 4 months ago
@Jinseual You relize that if someone Pirates a game, chances are they had no plans of buying it, and the company who makes the game looses nothing.
In a way, the used game industry is MUCH, MUCH worse than the piracy industry. So many people buy used games instead of new ones because Gamestop knocks 5-10 dollars off the price. Those are ACTAUL LOST SALES unlike piracy.
Tyson0395 3 months ago
@Tyson0395 i see what you mean, so that means everyone must pirate so the game industry looses nothing, and gain no profits. and therefore the money invested into making the games will never come back to the industry falls and in the future games would start growing from trees. good job you are definitely a visionary. and the other thing what is wrong with buying used games?
Jinseual 3 months ago
@Jinseual People who pirate games often have no intention of buying the game, though. People who buy games will continue to pay for their products. Used sales, on the other hand, area huge problem which cause companies to loose millions in revenue unlike pirating, since not only do they not receive profit they would have otherwise, but unlike pirates they have to continue with the online server upkeep for these people.

whatever the situation/argument is, this phenomenon will continue to exist.. it will continue up to the future till there is a better sharing system invented. i doubt it if there is something or someone that can stop it. but if there is, i would just have to live with it. this thing is up to the peoples own judgement and perception knowing both sides of the situation.
neroZ77 7 months ago
Sharing should be voluntary to the creator. Copying something that someone else made against their will is unethical. If you want something that someone else made, and they don't give it to you for free, then you should invest the same time and energy that they did. Then you will have it for yourself, and it will be fair to everyone. All of these arguments I see boil down to "I have the capability to copy this against your will, and I don't care how you feel about it, even though you made it."
HunsV 7 months ago
one common misconception is that online piracy is stealing, its not, its sharing:)) it shouldn't be even called piracy cause they don't steal anything, they just copy it and share it to others. such a beautiful value it teaches us hahaha:D it may only violate copyright law which is a law only made by greedy selfish people.
neroZ77 7 months ago
@neroZ77 - This isn't the issue being presented. There is a difference between stealing and a lost sale. If every lost sale were theft, a bad review of a multi-million dollar movie might as well be grand larceny.
There are laws in place to protect the rights of authors, and they should be pursuing the enforcement of their rights on their own, through civil court. However, criminalizing the exchange of ideas infringes on the consumer's right to free speech.

So long as others pay, they're fine with it.
paulmarkham1950 10 months ago
@paulmarkham1950 "If everyone copied a friends bike, there would be no bikes." What about the ones that got copied? Would they disappear?
AveryMorrow 10 months ago
@AveryMorrow Think bit deeper.
The idea that sharers would never buy is crazy.

HipHopJun 11 months ago
@HipHopJun the truth is that buying CDs doesnt give money to artists, it gives money to the record companies. Most artists make most of their money when they go on tour. So, if you want to support them go see them in concert. I may be a Pirates but at least I'm not a homophobe. You're just an ignorant little shit...have fun giving your money away for no reason :)
The80sKickAss 11 months ago
@The80sKickAss And who do you think makes the concerts happen? It all goes round and round and in the end, supports whatever musician.
By the way, if that is your only argument then what about video games? How else would devs be making money if it wasn't for the people that buy their product? Like I said, this song and everything it stands for is FLAWED. Piracy is wrong. You can spin it anyway you like but in the end all you're doing is belittling people's talent.
HipHopJun 11 months ago
@HipHopJun do you realize how much money video game developers houses make? they make one physics and graphics engine and they use it for 2-3 years. The first game they put out covers the cost of that and the rest of the time they phone it in because they know they can slap any first person shooter together and someone will buy it. if you think they start from scratch on every game they make, you're kidding yourself. but are the games cheaper? no they aren't.
The80sKickAss 11 months ago
@The80sKickAss Oh and I guess story, character, and level design don't mean shit, right? It's just worthless drivel to you. Red Dead Redemption used the same exact engine from GTA 4, yet look how much of a great game it is!
Something being out of your financial range is NO excuse to shoop da whoop the creator out of their profit. People like you are the reason cheap casual games are on a huge rise. You pirates DISGUST me. This attitude is OUTRAGEOUS. You should be ashamed of yourself.
HipHopJun 11 months ago

The80sKickAss 11 months ago
The record companies have almost nothing to do with concerts douche. Those are set up through agents and the venues. If the artist is really famous than yea the the record company will put out money especially if they're trying to sell the new CD the artist made. But at that point that artist is raking in tons of cash, do they really need your support? I'm all for supporting local artist. But I think Lady Gaga and Eminem wont be in the poor house if I copy their CD.
The80sKickAss 11 months ago 2
There's one bike for each of us...
And one less bought from the bike company.
Argue the toss about whether you'd have bought it anyway, it's still theft.
molewizard 11 months ago
@molewizard So then according to you, preventing a sale is the same as stealing. Interesting. If thats the case, then preventing, say, a pizza shop from selling 5 pizzas by buying 1 for yourself and sharing it with your friends, is preventing them from making 4 more sales and thus your friends are stealing pizza. Thats going by the exact same logic. "And one less bought from the bike company". But in this case, its "And four less bought from the pizza shop".
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk Well, no, since you're actively giving them the product, to begin with. You do not copy those pizza slices to them, you GIVE them away. Almost like a second hand sale.
In any case, it doesn't equate to one less pizza sold, since you're each getting less pizza; To get the same amount, you'd need to order 5 pizzas, and share them all out.
molewizard 11 months ago
@molewizard So then if you could make perfect copies of the pizza rather than giving away limited slices, you'd be quick to jump and change the law just because the customer gained the ability to share what they legally bought, an unlimited amount of times?
Because this song isn't saying to take a copy from the source/music artist/movie producer, its saying that a customer buys something digital, and their friends are getting copies of it. The source isn't even part of the picture anymore.
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk Why is the source not part of the picture?
If you want a non-digital example, say I bought a yo-yo. I then began to make copies of this particular brand of yo-yo, and I sold them or gave them away. By copies here, I mean I replicate the original design with a mould & such. This is just as illegal as the digital equivalent, and rightfully so.
molewizard 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk First off you're talking about an actual physical item. "Copying is not theft" Talks about digital distribution of items, not pizza, a real life item. According by your logic, molewizard, pizza is not meant to be shared. So on Sundays when the football game is on, pizza company's are writing down their lost profit because all the people who ordered whole pizzas that include 5 slices per pie, did not buy a pizza for each of their friends because hes going to share it.
headstrongpnk101 11 months ago
@headstrongpnk101 I know its talking about digital items. And im saying the law should be no different for them than it is for physical goods. A good is a good. When you buy it, it belongs to you. Digital, or Physical. Sharing what you have, either digital or physical, only causes Theoretical Losses for companies, not direct losses.
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk Not true. It causes direct losses, the AMOUNT is theoretical.
While not every pirate would have bought the goods, SOME WOULD, and that is a direct loss of income.
molewizard 11 months ago
@molewizard I used to think that as well, but check this.
Customer A is thinking about buying Game X. Someone else bought it and is sharing it for free via torrent, so he decides to download it instead.
Customer B is thinking about buying Game X. Game Z comes along, and he buys that instead. Wouldn't that also be a direct loss? He -intended- to buy Game X, just like Customer A. He was about to buy it, but changed his mind. Why shouldn't he be punished? Isn't that a direct loss as well?
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk Interesting perspective, but I don't think so.
The loss has been made by someone creating a better alternative. This is loss by competition, and in the end, one game company still gets the proceeds from customer B; The one with the best game.
molewizard 11 months ago
@molewizard And in example A, the loss has been made by someone who already bought the game and is sharing it. This is loss by competition as well, whether you realize it or see it that way or not. In this case, the person sharing the game with customer A isn't even making any money off of the transaction.
Now tell me another thing, would you rather build up a fanbase willing to buy your future games + merchandise; or never gain any customers at all by losing to the competition?
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk This is why we have copyright law.
You are "stealing" their idea, and distributing it seperately.
molewizard 11 months ago
@molewizard Why should someone be paid/rewarded for everytime someone uses their idea or product? Thats a bit selfish if you ask me. Using is not the same as buying.
Does an author get paid every time you lend someone a book? Does a gas station take money from every person you ever give a ride to?
Whether you lend someone a game, or give them a copy, you are sharing what -you- own. It takes -your- time and money to make a copy for a friend, not the game publishers or developers.
darthsonicjk 11 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@darthsonicjk Lending someone a game is not the same as copying it. Lending is generally considered totally legal.
In any case, you didn't answer the question directly. If piracy is legal, how do companies make money off their games, and more importantly, with no guarenteed return, how does one go about convincing someone to develop a game?
molewizard 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk To clear it up, to lend someone something, you have to lose posession of it, and thus if both of you wanted posession at the same time, you would have to buy another. When you buy a physical product, this is implicit, because you CAN'T both have posession at the same time.
molewizard 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk And whether I would rather allow piracy or not is MY choice, and has no bearing on the law. I can choose to pursue pirates if I want to, I don't have to. If I think it builds up a fanbase, great, I can allow it. But what if I don't?
The law only caters to both points of view if it disallows piracy.
molewizard 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk Now let me ask you a question.
Let's assume piracy is allowed. Anyone can download a copied game from the internet. How do companies make money off their games, and more importantly, with no guarenteed return, how does one go about convincing someone to develop a game?
molewizard 11 months ago
@darthsonicjk The key part here is someone came up with a better idea than the first. Therefore, idea 1 deserves to have some of its income deferred to idea 2.

@PetercAW The sabbath was made for man,and not man for the sabbath, and that is because God is immortal, and we are finite, and mortal, and God took that into consideration with the wording in the the bible.

@TheSeventiethSeven The evangelicals you do not like are the same ones I do no like. I do not belong to any of them. The one I did defend though is Eddy Long. He began to support the gay,and encountered heavy opposition, and at that point I supported Eddy with everything I had.

@kobidobidog on average 100 (give or take) people die each minute and the world population is only 30% christian, so 70% are going to hell.
Nice god you've got there.
