  • Year in Review: 2011 Another Year of Progress for the Church

    December 27, 2011

  • Mormons Believe....What?!: Fact and Fiction About a Rising Religion by Gary Lawrence. A lively analysis of the facts and fictions surrounding Mormonism - a religion mysterious to some, misunderstood by many, and maligned by more than a few. Sprinkling each chapter with results from his national polls, Lawrence produces the go-to guidebook for the person who wants to understand "just enough" about this increasingly visible religion

  • Hasa Diga Eebowai!

  • "I believe that they are Christians. I do not know if it's the purest form of Christianity like I grew up with, but I know Mormons ... and I hear Mitt Romney say, 'I believe Jesus is the son of God, and I believe he's my Savior,'" Osteen said. "That's one of the core issues. I'm sure there are other issues we don't agree on, but I can say the Baptists and the Methodists and the Catholics don't agree on everything."

  • America still doesn't know Mitt Romney is a Mormon

  • The LDS church is such a cult its not even funny.

  • @SueofthePhoenixGate "The LDS church is such a cult"

oh, the word CULT, used by BIGOTS to label a group they fear. YOUR types have similar words for BLACKS, JEWS, and HISPANICS.

  • @omiolo True.....the word CULT is used by idiots.

  • @SueofthePhoenixGate You have no idea what they believe.

  • Time will tell

  • the lds church is not a cult

  • now I know why people of old times called jesus "devil" because of the vale.

  • @beastieboy1999, I have to totally agree with you. No matter how much these people disrespect us (and I don't understand why they put so much effort into it) not only are we respectful to everyone around us, all we want to do is live our lives, and worship in peace. We have done no harm to you. I also don't understand why people feel we are weird. We are totally normal.

  • @notmymom9 Well, I wonder if people would have a problem if their neighbors were fans of Star Wars, minvans, and Jello.

  • Hurricane, Utah, family sends out more than a dozen missionaries

    MormonTimes

  • DENVER - A Salvadoran immigrant who until recently led a Mormon congregation in Utah and his family were deported after exhausting their last chance of obtaining political asylum in the United States. In remarks to the media, US Immigration and Customs ...

  • Some people need to go out and get a job and leave other people alone

  • @satv365 Interesting that you find the Book of Mormon a laughing stock because it teaches things the Mormon Church *denies.* Like God being Spirit, the Triune God, the doctrine that if you die in your sins, you're lost for eternity (which flies in the face of their baptism for the dead), monogamy (one wife only), and so on. And yeah, it does seem to me, too, that they're determined to believe it no matter what evidence to the contrary is presented...they just label it (and you) "anti-Mormon."

  • @wannawatchu66 You clearly have missed some information on baptism for the dead. Baptism for the dead is for those that never heard the gospel in their mortal lives and gone to the state of Paradise or Spirit Prison, where Christ heads a missionary effort to teach these souls of the gospel, and see if they will accept it.

  • @wannawatchu66 Is the Triune God really biblical? When it says "I and the Father are one", would it not be more logical to say that it was saying that they are on in harmony, not substance, because there is so much more evidence in the Bible that say they are separate. Why would Christ pray to himself, calling himself "Father"? What was the purpose of the events at the scene of the baptism of Christ, the display of a seperated Godhead? Why a father and a son, yet the same person? cont.

  • @wannawatchu66 cont. Do you know how this doctrine of Trinity came about? The Council of Nicaea, a democratic creedsmith where scholars decided what was canon or not, is why. Without the use of a prophet and minimal scripture, Constantine, the Holy Emperor and leader of the Church, and Alexander decided that the Godhead was a trinity, but when it came to vote, the Trinity was thrown out with the majority ruling a Unity. The election was then overhauled and the voters thrown out, cont.

  • @masterskyrunner In regards to the the Trinity start at the beginning of the bible in Genesis 1, the Hebrew translation for the word God is Elohiym throughout the chapter." Elohiym is a plural form for the name of God. This is why Genesis 1 says "Let US make man in our image.God is not speaking with the angels but is carrying on a dialogue within himself and revealing himself as pluralistic in nature. This is consistant with Deuteronomy 6:4 which I'm sure you recognize as the Hebrew Shema.

  • @masterskyrunner The Hebrew Shema is the first prayer a Jewish child learns in temple. The shema reads right to left in Hebrew but I inverted it "Shema Yisrael, Adonai eloheynu Adonai e-chad" / Hear Oh Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. Eloheynu There is no need for a prophet since these were already ancient Hebrew scripture. The doctrine of the Trinity existed before the Counsel of Nicaea, it is in scripture and has always been there.

  • @wannawatchu66 cont. replaced with those that agreed with the Emporer... so much for divine revelation.

  • You may chose to discriminate us, and you may chose not to listen to our gospel. But you can not change who we worship, how we worship, and you cannot dampen our faith in God, and his son, Jesus Christ.

  • Ya know, Tuhljin, the very same thing could be said about Mormons. Some of you are every bit as guilty as you say anti-Mormons are.

  • @wannawatchu66 That's because we're humans. We do try.

  • @shaloneithne Of course you try, and so do I. We're all human. Sometimes I cringe at how Mormons and Christians talk to each other here on YouTube. When *I* talk to Mormons, I *Try* to be compassionate, despite how some LDS I've talked to treated ME. I'm not here to ridicule LDS. I don't call you guys "MORmONS" no matter how insulting and sarcastic some of you may be to me as I don't believe that to be Christ-like. No one was ever won over by being mistreated. I wouldn't be. Continued ==>

  • @shaloneithne You may never leave LDS, and that's your prerogative. But I can't sit idly by, knowing what I do about Mormonism and its history, and not say anything to you. On p. 15 of "The Seer," Orson Pratt wrote "...convince us of our errors of doctrine, if we have any, by reason, by logical arguments, or by the word of God, and we will be ever grateful for the information, and you will ever have the pleasing reflection that you have been instruments in the hands of God of redeeming your...

  • @shaloneithne (cont'd) "...fellow beings." Brigham Young said "I say to the whole world, receive the truth, No Matter Who Presents It To You. Take up the Bible, compare the religion of the Latter-day Saints with it, and see if it will stand the test." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 16, p. 46)

So, to this end, I present the findings of my research into Mormonism to LDS at the risk of being labeled and dismissed as "anti-Mormon," which is fine. Like I said, you may never leave LDS, but...

  • @shaloneithne I at least try, in love, to give you something to think about. I see myself as "pro-Mormon" because I want you to know for YOUR sake, not mine, what I've discovered. I expect, and get, nothing out of warning LDS of false doctrine, false prophets, and eternal judgment. I'm not here to win arguments or ridicule anybody. If I didn't care about you people, I'd keep my keyboard shut and spare myself the abuse that some LDS here have heaped on me.

    Have a nice day.

  • Elder Jack H. Goaslind Jr., 83, an emeritus general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in Salt Lake City.

He served as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy for two decades, twice as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy and as counselor in the LDS Church's Aaronic Priesthood MIA general presidency and later as the general Young Men president.

  • Towards the end of 2004 our stake president, Conrad Gottfredson, came to our home to visit. My husband, Michael Kennedy, Sr., and I knew our stake president was a very inspired man and heard how he would call someone or visit with them in their home, day or night following promptings that he was needed.

  • The Deseret Foundation's Heart and Lung Research Foundation, a fundraising arm of Intermountain Healthcare, presented President Uchtdorf with the award Thursday night at a banquet held at the Little America Hotel.

The award, first created in 1991, is given to "eminent leaders with Utah ties for their contribution to the well-being of people everywhere," said award committee chair Frank Madsen.

  • @Tuhljin Ohh yeah I get it... Haha

  • This has absolutely nothing to do with Mormonism at all.

  • @DulcesitaB3B3 But it has a lot to do with anti-Mormons. If you aren't one, and you've dealt with them, you'd see why.

  • Richmond County investigators are looking for an armed robber after two women said they were mugged in South Augusta Saturday evening.

The two women say they were preaching on behalf of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on the 2300 block of Winston Way when they approached a man and talked to him about behind baptized, according to an incident report filed with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

  • For UNC senior Anna McElroy, a knock on the door opened her up to a new way of life.

After initially rebuffing the efforts of two Mormon missionaries she met outside a friend's apartment door, McElroy had a change of heart after seeing a "South Park" satire of the religion.

She saw another pair of missionaries in the Pit and began talking to them about their faith's answers to life's big questions.

  • For two days, Church members around the globe will gather in various locations to hear counsel from Church leaders, including President Thomas S. Monson and each member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, as well as other General Authorities and auxiliary leaders of the Church.

  • @pastelitodepapa are you unclesuave by another name?

  • The 181st Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will take place on April 2 and 3, 2011, at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

  • It's sad to see that there are videos like this making fun of the true church. I can surely tell you my testimony, that I know the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is trueand that there is a living profit on the earth today. I hope you feel inspired to learn more and investigate the church by seeing revolting videos like this. :)

  • Snort. That's all I have to say.

  • At that time, they were trying to

understand the concepts of priesthood, of sealing power, and of

church hierarchy. In some early Church meetings, there are aspects

of Pentecostalism and other Protestant thought that sometimes seem

to be reflected. So speculation by members at that time might not

reflect a full understanding of the gospel. But, as the members

learned more, the Church matured and became more like the

    organization you see today.

  • Umm anti mormon means anti satan so Im damn proud to be an anti mormon

  • @makingaccountforyou your a douchebag!

  • @makingaccountforyou: Wo unto those who call evil good and call good evil; calling dark light, and light dark. (Fellow Mormons, u probably know the scripture I'm talkin about.) Shame, you're gonna preach your hate and lies forever til you die and get throttled by the truth.. unless you change your ways and seek the truth. Satan has YOU.

  • Omiolo..... Amen!!!!! :)

  • Dallas, TX -- When Editor Howard F. Clarke checked the sales figures of his newly formatted version of "Jane Austen: Her Life and Letters, a Family Record," he found an odd statistic: the Jane Austen bio is selling more copies in Salt Lake City, Utah than in any other U.S. location... by a ratio of 8 to 1.

  • Jane Austen Connects with Mormon Women, According to Austen Bio Sales

  • 007?

  • We have a problem with the Word of Wisdom!

Let us rephrase that: We have a problem with the rather selective way we live the Word of Wisdom. No smoking, check. No drinking, check. No tea or coffee, check. But what about the part on eating meat sparingly? And eating whole grains? What about wholesome herbs and fruits in their season? And is there anything in there about excessive ice cream?

  • The property is still under the control of local authorities as they seek to find answers regarding the cause of the fire. When that process is complete we will have the opportunity to evaluate the building and determine the best course of action. We anticipate this will be a lengthy process, but we will make our plans known as soon as we are able. . .

  • The Provo Tabernacle was a meaningful part of Church history and the Provo community. Its loss in a recent fire is a tragedy for all who loved the building and its link to our pioneer past.

  • Though strangely labeled, this sketch was hilarious

  • I know that God lives. Jesus is the Christ. This is His Church. The Book of Mormon is true. Joseph Smith is its translator and the prophet of this last dispensation. President Thomas S. Monson is God’s prophet today. I so testify in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.

  • @omiolo The last Prophet is Jesus Christ. All the prophets before Jesus pointed to and prophesied about His coming. After Christ there is no need for prophets as His arrival was what the were talking about, prophecy fulfilled. So if Christ was the last Prophet, there will be no other... Unless they are False Prophets... You only need to read Mark 13:22-23 to see. Christ has already told you not to believe in such prophets, unless you don't believe what Christ said is true...

  • @unclesuave “Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophecies.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

  • @unclesuave "The last Prophet is Jesus Christ."

maybe you should open your Bible and see if you can find the word P R O P H E T after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I think that will help for starters.

  • @unclesuave Or..... All prophets are false prophets? Isn't that a possibility?

  • Though being a former LDS and against LDS, I had so much of a laugh from Monty Python (one of my favourite comedians) that I cannot feel offended at this video. Thanks for sharing this Monty Python sketch...hilarious! :)

  • He has no power to destroy the eternal bonds forged in a holy temple between a husband, wife, and children. He cannot quench true faith. He cannot take away your testimony. Yes, these things can be lost by succumbing to his temptations. But he has no power in and of himself to destroy them.

  • The devil will not triumph. Even now he must operate within the bounds set by the Lord. He cannot take away any blessing that has been earned. He cannot alter character that has been woven from righteous decisions.

  • @omiolo "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • @Christian33AD Love casteth out all fear =)

  • @omiolo That is the key point of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Love versus Fear the more powerful is love it is light and the shadows disappear upon its appearance.

  • There are far more if we include the points made in each lesson. Would you like to take a guess at how many lessons there are about preparing for life as a single woman? Or lesson points that prepare young women for life alone? Exactly zero.

  • I currently serve in the Young Women program of the Church. Do you know how many lessons there are in the manual about dating, marriage, or family preparation? According to my count, there are 13 lessons in the 2011 manual, just going on the lesson titles alone.

  • I wonder, If person within the LDS starts teaching "another gospel" other than the one that THEY teach, does this person use the old "you're being anti mormon" Card on them when a LDS member tries to lead THEM back into the flock? And I wonder how a member of LDS would react to it?

    Just a question.

  • @pretoshohmoofc LOL I might just try this.

  • What people read is, in itself, of no consequence. It is what they become that is real and consequential. Are we more loving, more spiritual, positive, more helpful, truthful and more healing in our attitude toward the world? Mormonism and churchianity mostly fail in this regard, but there must be a fundamental spiritual truth that can help us gain who and what we really are as the children of divine Love? Where, o where can that be?

  • @bmiller4930 Just be yourself and be nice to other people. >.>b

  • “But even if we or an angel from heaven (moroni) should preach to you a gospel other than what we have preached to you, curse be on him!” Galatians 1:6-9 Morman’s are not prepared for the coming apocalypse, Huge Sorrow will be to the morman who refuse to see the truth, You have been warned your fall will be great. • @kramd1 the laugh of the exposed!

  • Nationwide, less than 1 percent of Hispanics are Mormon, compared to almost 70 percent Catholic, according to the Pew Research Center. Worldwide, Hispanics make up the fastest growing contingent of Mormon converts, church leaders said.

  • @omiolo Yes i think you r right here Omiolo . I have heard that in the poorer, less educated, communities Mormon missionary efforts are more successful. In Samoa, for example, 50% of the island in the south pacific are Mormons. Of the Hispanics, as you say, they represent the the most mormon converts in the USA.

  • @kramd1 "I have heard that in the poorer, less educated, communities Mormon missionary efforts are more successful"

That is true. We take these people and in one or two generations we have them the complete opposite. That is the miracle of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Hahahahaha. That must be were all the anti-mormons learn how to argue. XD The Book of Mormon's true! NO IT ISN'T!

  • Mormons wish they were as reasonable as this

  • can anyone even understand this stupid video?

  • President Thomas S. Monson rededicated the Laie Hawaii Temple — the church's 5th temple worldwide and the first outside of Utah — in three sessions Sunday.

  • Although the display of Bloch's is smaller in number than many exhibits previously housed at the BYU Museum of Art, the pieces displayed make up for sheer volume, the BYU Museum of Art Director Campbell Gray said.

  • Also included in the tour are panoramic photos of the Bloch altar pieces the museum was unable to acquire for the exhibit. Some non-religious paintings are on display along with photos and video of many familiar religious paintings that are housed in the king's oratory, or prayer chamber, in the Frederiksburg Castle in Denmark. Bloch spent 14 years painting the king's oratory from 1865-79. None of the 23 paintings from the Frederiksburg Castle are part of the exhibit.

  • lol

  • Wow. Monty Python predicted youtube. I'm impressed.

  • I like how you took a Monty Python sketch, changed the name, and use it as an anti-religion video.

  • If you find that you receive many of your answers in the second pattern … you are normal. That particular pattern is more common than rare. You should not question your testimony or your own spiritual capacity."

  • During their mission, LDS missionaries maintain a strict dress and moral code. They aren't allowed to date, and they can only call home on Christmas and Mother's Day.

Concerning the conservative religious atmosphere of College Station, Batt - who has been here for six months - said, "It makes it a lot easier to bring up the topic and discuss the issues. But I love College Station. The people are nice and the area is beautiful."

  • @NATHENBFOREST

Thanks! I deliberately chose to leave the last sentence incorrect because of lack of characters,or chose to not edit. Many writers have to polish and correct their first draft writings; that does not make one a dumb ass. Not so nice try without all the facts.

  • From 28 April 2010 to 1 May 2010, the National Genealogical Society held its annual Family History Conference at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Representatives of FamilySearch — a division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — contributed to several aspects of the conference.

  • Over 30 of the conference workshops were provided by FamilySearch employees, and even more employees staffed FamilySearch booths in the exhibit hall each day, answering the public’s family history questions and demonstrating free online resources.

  • @omiolo

I did not read the bubbles when I was listening to this skit, but just read the description, so did not get the satire (even though whomever made the comments about the disaffected mormons could also be a little more charitable); shows I was also choosing to not be thorough, or did not get the message. Were they added after this video was created or when it was uploaded? Thanks...

  • @utgeekmattie1 after

  • My grammar was incorrect (parallelisms) and the ideas stated could have been organized better. Again, you are talking about innuendo and being incorrect without stating about what -- vacuous words that are not saying anything.

  • The Mormon religion is very rational and Mormons as a group are more educated than the general population. Also, "the Glory if God is Intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth" is a motto Mormons believe in. Also, Joseph Smith taught that you can only be saved as quickly as you gain KNOWLEDGE. Finally, we believe that we have greater advantage in the next life as we increase in knowing facts and obedience to truth through diligence.

    Academically back up your accusations.

  • @utgeekmattie1 I like this post.

  • taylors nightmare

  • The event brought together members of two groups affiliated with the BYU Law School — the DC Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the law society and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies in Provo, Utah. Cole Durham, director of the center, congratulated the senator and emphasized the critical role of freedom of religion in protecting religious rights. He noted that 16th-century scholar William Tyndale was put to death simply for translating the Bible into English.

  • When Kaderabkova's husband, Jan Kaderabek, finally joined the church in 1975, a military helicopter showed up just before the baptism in a pond near Plzen, sending people scattering for cover — but not until they had thrown coats and clothes over car license plates in order to avoid identification. After hovering for 10 minutes, the helicopter finally left, and the baptism was quickly performed.

  • he baptisms were quickly performed, and converts — still in their wet clothes — walked back to the cars with the witnesses to return to the city, still hoping to avoid unwanted attention.

  • Lol I'm Mormon and I'm actually going to the MTC soon. This is sooo funny....

  • That's why I am so please and blessed to be a mormon.

  • This is werd, but it reminds me of Anti-mormons. ^_^

  • What is an Anti-Mormon? I've heard of Anti-Mormonism, but to be Anti-Mormon one would have to be against the individual person, and I don't know of any real Christians who are against the people, only the false doctrine.

Remember that when you should have been living your life exalting God, but instead you lived it trying to exalt yourself, you are not Christian. The Bible clearly teaches over and over that you are born an enemy of God, there is only one God and He knows not of any other gods.

  • "While I came to Taiwan and Hong Kong many times when I was employed as a pilot, I have not had the chance to visit the saints in this part of the world since I was called as an apostle and began serving in the First Presidency," President Uchtdorf said. "I was so excited to take this opportunity."

  • I don't understand the fascination with LDS religion that you all have. Do you pick on Catholics or Muslims? NO, so be respectful and grow up.

  • @bluebonnet138 No one should be picked on.

  • thank you for the monty pyhthon skectch lol.

  • Makakarma din kayo!!!

  • After his mission is completed he plans to attend BYU in Idaho to possibly study law. “I would not trade my mission for anything,” he said.

  • Would be funny if it wasn't supposed to have something to do with Mormonism.

  • McCullough talked of visiting Normandy with a Jewish couple, who placed pebbles on the grave of a Jewish soldier. "They said it was their way of staying in touch. That's what we all should be doing. History — whether you call it history or local history or family history — transcends time, transcends nationality, transcends geography. It reminds us that we are all part of the human family. We must stay in touch."

  • @jakec916 And, he added, "we should never say 'gone, but not forgotten.' If they are not forgotten, they are not gone. They created the society, the values, the experiences we all live by. We must not lose sight of them."

  • Jesus Christ wants our love for him and Heavenly Father to motivate our obedience to the commandments. The Lord exhorted, "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Keeping the commandments helps us grow spiritually, but divine perfection cannot be compelled. Following and emulating Christ means obeying willingly because we love Him. "Man's love of God is measured in terms of obedience and service" (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 2nd Ed., 540).

  • He concluded his remarks at the Assembly Hall on Temple Square by explaining how the road to becoming a positive role model begins and ends with a rather simple decision.

  • It was easier than expected to find volunteer support. Forty-five Latter-day Saints were stationed aboard the Comfort on a rotating basis, each serving at least one month. The church also made 137 volunteers available in-country from its missionary force and church membership.

  • After being called as Relief Society general president, Sister Julie B. Beck and her counselors, Sister Silvia H. Allred and Sister Barbara Thompson, began pondering the purposes and objectives of Relief Society. They read the history of the organization, the Church Handbook of Instructions, and other lists of objectives. They found that everything about Relief Society could be summarized with three things Latter-day Saint women should be doing every day.

  • To these four suggestions he stated, "I pray that we will build our foundation of faith in Christ as we keep earning our own witness, following the Lord's patterns, learning so as to love others and counting our blessings every day."

  • @omiolo Then why was I kicked out for being GAY?Thats not acceptable!

  • Finally, he stated that to count our blessings every day, we need to build our foundation of faith in Christ. In order to do that he noted, "We need to have thoughts and feelings of overwhelming gratitude to Him. Gratitude does not seem to be inborn in most of us and if we do feel it, it seems to be very short lived. I heard one psychologist trainer say: 'Gratitude is the shortest of all human emotions. It is presently clocked at 4.3 seconds.' "

  • For once we have received a witness of the truth of the everlasting gospel, we are to follow the Lord's patterns to build our foundation of faith in Christ. The Lord's patterns are all intended to keep us safe, happy and on the path back to our heavenly home."

  • His second suggestion was simple—"The patterns we follow in our lives take many forms sometimes they are ideals we believe in, professions we love or persons we admire. These patterns influence our goals, decisions and actions. As followers of Christ, we need to be careful about the patterns we follow
