when I was in grade school - in Michigan - in the mid 50's and early 60's - we had a book called Bible History (I think) that we used for our catechism class, would you know where I could find it?
Thanks Sisters for doing these videos. What a great work you are doing. St. Paul would be proud (in a virtuous way). Is there anything out there for scientists? Often I run into peers that have neglected God's Hand in science. I would love to have something to back me. Thanks
There is a book that you can obtain from Pauline Books and Media called "Radical Amazement"by Judy Cannata I think that is the way to spell the author's name and it is on science and faith.. It is wonderful...
Pauline Year is around the corner. Do you have any recommendation Pauline readings--St Paul the apostle's books? It's what I hope to see on your website/youtube/blogs etc...but so far I've nothing. Are you coming up with new books on him soon (like within this year)? I always want to know more about him; it's a good time to do it...I think!
I really enjoyed Paul: His Life by Jerome Murphy O'Connor. You just have to take some things with a tiny grain of salt, because O'Connor likes to propose things about Paul's life that are so imaginative that no one in all of history has ever really taken those thoughts seriously! But it's wonderful for some of the context of Paul's life and letters.
Thank you for a quick response, singingsisters--I've been reading that book over and over again. I too have enjoyed the book--it's simply wonderful. I'm reading Paul: In Fresh Perspective by N.T. Wright. I don't think it's what I'm looking for but it's a very interesting discussion on St Paul the Apostle.
Anyway, I hope you'll come out with something new for Pauline Year on him.
Hey, how about? A year with St Paul: Getting to know the Apostle online series. I'm sure as his daughters you all have very good sense of your father St Paul. It wouldn't be hard for you to come up with something.
You could also see if you can scare up a copy of "The Testimony of St. Paul" by Cardinal Martini. It is a terrific extended meditation on the Conversion of St. Paul, but has been out of print for a while. The FSP community nearest you probably has a copy or two in their community library. (Our Chicago copy is in my office at the moment...)
People, just be careful when you go into a Pauline Books & Media store. I went to the Culver City store the other day and found lots of heretical books, such as those by the heretic Joan Chittister. Thankfully, they also had lots of books by Ignatius Press. Stick with these.
St. Ignatius said that if something can be interpreted in an orthodox way, then it is our duty in charity to interpret it in that sense. If PBM carries select titles by Chittister and other authors, that is not a blanket endorsement of every line they ever wrote, nor a recommendation to every possible reader, but an acknowledgment that the book on the shelf may be worth reading. That is why we review the books we carry.
are saints all good?
