I love this version and The Association's just about the same because they're so very different. Etta brings a soulful sensuality to her version and you just want to grab your man and make love to him.. The Association's version is from a simpler time. They sound vulnerable, rejected and sad..trying to convince.. And the harmony is priceless..
What a wonderful version by a wonderful, often underrated talent. I had the great pleasure of seeing her in concert a few times over the years. I still get chills thinking of her live version of SUGAR ON THE FLOOR from @1990 at NYC Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. She sang it SANS MICROPHONE. I would have loved to have had a chance to hear her sing NEVER MY LOVE.
Who else but Etta ....could take a mediocre love song ...give it some balls.....and bring a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye........They say Aretha Franklin is so good she should have a catagory of her very own.......I think the same could be said of ETTA JAMES..... for she is without doubt in a catagory of her own.
@speedcrane Too bad that you didn't see that the song is not mediocre at all but a diamond with a different cut...Goes to show how much you hear and see......

Rest easy, Miss Peaches. You ask me if there'll come a time when I grow tired of you. Never, my love. Rest easy.

If there was ever a song that made a person feel special this is it. Sing it to the one you love. You will see.
