the truck test was pointless. you put more force on it hitting it with a hammer than you did with your truck. and remember your 3 tons is divided by 4 and then the weight on that one tire is distributed around the surface area of the tire, so you are looking at about (without brothering to do the maths) 0.24 tons
@edog355 Good chance they will get scratched. I would get a set of clear or yellow Oakley. If you have flack/half jackets it takes less than 30 seconds to switch out the lens.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video....all it did was further solidify my very high opinion of Oakley. I own two pairs: Half Jacket XLJ and Half Jackets. Both w/ polarized lenses the XLJ's are grey and the others are Black Iridium. Oakley are unsurpassed and have no equal.
The ones that broke are standard lenses from other brands. All Oakley lenses surpass ANSI Z87.1 standards. It does not matter what color they are. We promoted Oakley earlier this year at my store and did similar tests on the lenses from the Oil Rig and Fives; did the same thing to Ray-Bans... which broke. Someone also took thier older M-Frame lenses to the range and shot it with a shotgun.
Oakley's are by far the greatest pair of eyewear out there.
Fuel Cell..they are new not alot of people have them, yet they are similar to Gascans. DO NOT get Gascans everybody has them I kind of regret getting a pair. Oil Rigs are ok they aren't too common yet not rare but only some people can actually pull off Oil Rigs. If you really insist on getting Oil Rigs take a look at the Antix.. there cool looking, not many people have em, and people can recognize the brand when you wear them.
I have Oil Rigs and i love them...it took a little bit of getting used to them for the first week or so, but after you wear them enough it starts to grow on you. I would agree, dont get gascans, everyone and their brother have them. Another one you could look at is the Eyepatch. They are similar with the big lens but the frames are a little smaller, which in some cases are a good thing (i mean for looks)
@DestroyAllN00bs i like all 3 models. i own 2 pairs of oil rigs both dif. colors. as well as a white pair of gascans. fuel cells. i find rather big but still something i would wear.
oakley lenses also correctly transmit light through the lens. most other sunglass lenses dont, and so your brain has to rectify this issue to make your vision normal again, and this is what causes headaches from wearing sunglasses to long.
@Guitar4sanity oh do you mean the "advanced placement program"...; a program in which high school students can pursue advanced courses that are generally eligible for college credit? that is, IF you obtain a high enough score on the examinations. i took all but one because my course load was full. and i hate to burst your bubble but they dont really mean anything. your average is weighted for a report card but not for your GPA (in which colleges look for) oh and i attended U Michigan
The point is to show something like getting hit in the face with glasses on. Surely you would appreciate not having a bunch of glass/plastic shatter into your eye...
i wonder if oakley are gonna lower there standards now that they've signed with the luxottica group (which practically produce every other brand including ray-ban, chanel etc). i've seen impact tests on those designer ones and they pretty much suck.
all designer brands safilo, and luxottica suck, all designer shades suck cept for stuff like oakley and other sport lenses, theyve also been with oakley for a long time
@blaablaa30 Yeah dude seriouly, but I hate it even more when some dude randomly run my face over with their 3 ton dodge ram 1500. Thanks god for oakleys!
Yes all oakley lenses are made from the purest form of plutonite, wich blocks 100% uv a,b,c and harmfull blue light. also makes for above industry standards.
BTW: I have black on black iridium polorized square wires. I love them, but the frame (c5) is too soft, it will bend. It costs $40 + shipment to get them fixed!!!!!!
Their lenses are great, but DO NOT buy their titanium framed glasses. I bought this 400 dollar pair of titanium oakleys (the SPIKE model), after 3-5 weeks the legs snapped off at the join, this happened 4 times, by which time, considering I was lazy shipping them back, and getting the next pair, a year had passed, and they denied my warranty, and would not refund the glasses or swap for cheaper pair plus refund, only store credit.. Most expensive terrible retail choice, ever...
All of Oakley lenses are shatter proof. the guy who developed Oakley lost his eye to a bundgy courd he hooked up on the back of his truck, if he would have had his glasses on he would have never lost his eye. This lead him into making shatter proof lenses
All Oakleys exceed standards for impact protection. And the SI M frames are even better. The common test method is to shoot the lens with 12 ga buckshot....
revision is the strongest, but there are no stores around to buy them... Revisions aren't good for rx because optimetrists cant seem to fit lenses into the rx carrier, but with oakley, there are oakley vaults around to get prescriptions at.
I had used 2/3 of those tests before I watched this video. I had beat the living crap out of the lens from both sides of the hammer. Let's say that you can still wear them and the lens will break if you keep on bashing it, but that will take a lot of abuse. I had also ran a lens over with my truck (RIP)and nothing happened. Those tests are real.
Why did you use a clear lens and not a costly lens? :D Well, I am an Oakley fan and you might say that I am an Oakley nut.
The test with the pen comparing the safety glasses to Oakley is not 100% valid: the impact should have been from the front of the lens instead of the back... the Oakley lens received all impacts from the front. All designs take safety factors for frontal impacts onto the lenses... unless it is a special design for the X-Men, LOL.
i purchased replacement lenses for my gascan. Originally had black iridium polarized and after 3 years, they are pretty scratched up.. Oakleys are pretty much shatterproof, but they are not scratchproof unfortunately. =[
anyways, im thinkin about making a video just like this with my old lenses....and i have M frames as well to protect my eyes in the process lol! only time will tell if i will or not
dude thats awesome video i had a pair of half jackets and they were the s**t and now i have the flak jackets. which are incrediable tough. thanks for posting

im about to send mine to califronia to get tuned up. anyone who is thinking about sending them in for repairs be sure to tell them u got them recendly or ul get charged for 40 bucks!
