  • I have to admit I may not know as much as the others leaving comments, but the only one to give me that feeling in my stomach ( I can't explain it ) was Franco.

  • in Nessun dorma is h1 and no b1

  • @jeeste100, I'm sorry, but don't understand your comment. Notes are from A to G, which are La and Sol in other countries (like mine). Maybe we're talking about the same note? If that's not what you're saying, please explain so that I can correct any possible mistake, mine or yours. Greetings.

  • like more pavarotti

  • Pav wore abody mike bec. his voice was small. Can't say that about Franco.

  • The di quella pira was from a recital album. Luciano wouldn't dare try that on stage.

  • Nobody could touch Corelli in Turandot. Check out the live 1964 Turandot from LaScala or the 1967 Tosca from Parma. The absolute control of such a huge instrument is incredible. So are his high C's. But I enjoy Giuseppe's Che gelida manina very, very much. You can keep Domingo.

  • Maestro Pavarotti is my man! As always..

  • Thankyou!

  • Other than di Stefano (as great as he was you can hear technical problems) I heard all of the others live many times. Thought they all had great tops, each did so much more in their singing. They put what passes for tenors today to shame-even the young Domingo. Not because I'm a Corelliste but it was the most unusual voice-very big, warm lyrical heroic full of color and high notes that were simply legendary

  • I didn't forget Björling, he's one of my favourites, and if this vid was not only of aria endings he would be here for sure.

  • Didn't you forget a tenor? Jussi Björling!!!

  • Can you tell me which recording that piece of corelli's nessun dorma comes from? Have been looking for it for EVER! Thanks.

  • @opera225, i took it from the album "Opera Heroes: Corelli". It's not from a whole performance (you can't listen the choir singing "il nome suo nessun saprà, etc."), but a record of many arias conducted by Franco Ferraris, I think 1964.

  • In which year did Pavarotti perform the Di Quella Pira? Wanna check the whole performance!

  • @enzoferrarimendoza, I think there's no whole performance, but he recorded only Ah si, ben mio... Di quella pira with Gildis Flossmann, conducted by Nicola Rescigno. Year 1971 I think, not sure.

  • @1993MGB Will look for it, thanks!

  • Pavarotti!

  • where is fritz wunderlichs granada? he would blow all away^^

  • Thank you, I enjoyed this. Thanks for putting this together and sharing with us. Youtube at its best!

  • Pavarotti RESPIRA entre os dós!

  • Although Corelli might be what Domingo wanted to, some of his singing is quite emotive. Maybe his voice is not enough for a high C, but sounds good in this. People, if this vid is a compilation is not for comparing, but to give both Corelli and Domingo (and the rest) fans de opportunity of listening their favourites.

  • how can you even put side by side placido and Corelli - placido can only imagine as if he sings like Corelli

  • All are great singers. I own recordings in one form or another that feature all of these notes except the Gedda Celeste Aida B Flat.

  • Kiepura outdoes this group

  • @dziady1, I like Kiepura, but at these level no one outdoes any other.

  • Domingo doesn't belong in this group. Alfredo Kraus and Mario del Monaco do.

  • @tklogan111809 I agree

  • @tklogan111809 I don't agree!

  • Great to have a video like this.I compare to my videos and think that the high C of di Stefano is the sound closest to my vocie type. My teacher Magnús Jónsson told me many years ago he thought I sounded a bit like him. I hope he was right. I am finishing to learn the part of Rodolfo and there are some videos on youtube of me singing Che gelida manina AND one of the duett,O soave fanciulla...

I hope there is a need in the operaworld for Rodolfo, with a good high C....

    Kári Friðriksson.

  • @karifrid I wish you success in your pursuit, you must have a beautiful voice. I'm looking for you now!!

  • Dal vivo Corelli,Corelli,Corelli !

  • @bodiloto Corelli Is Great!!!!

  • Corelli is tops all the way!!! Thanks for posting.

  • @Gary2837 Disagree

  • @petion2010 It's okay to disagree. All fans of opera singers have their preferences and you have yours. Mine is Corelli in his prime. However, wouldn't it have been great to have had them all alive and in their prime at the same time?

  • @Gary2837 It's not a question of favorite singers. Not a knock on Corelli's talent, but he couldn't hold that high C nearly as long as Pavarotti or Kraus in their prime. Also, I think Del Monaco had a more powerful voice.

  • @petion2010 If he knew we would be comparing his voice to others who held the note I'm certain he would have held it just as long. He's the one with the physical build, stamina, strength etc. to do anything he wanted. All are excellent tenors and I'm glad I'm having exposure to them now. I'm too young to have experienced first hand.

  • In Spain we name notes in another way, but i'm sure we're talking about the same. When I say high B i mean half a tone under high C. I think that's what you call B4.

  • KaleidoscopeAct: I'm sure he's not the only one who can say three times "all'armi". And yes, 3 is a high B flat (as is said), but you're right, the ending of Recondita armonia is also B flat, I forgot writing it.

  • @1993MGB when you say high B do you mean B5? I KNOW THAT FOR B5 YOU NEED FALSETTO

  • Why does Corelli sing all'armi four times? BECAUSE HE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a voice. Wish I could have heard him live.

  • Sorry for being a stickler-3 and 4 are high B flats, not high B's. But they both sound amazing!!

  • ThePavafan, I absolutely agree, but think when Corelli had ended his high C Pavarotti would keep singing for another 5 secs.

  • Pavarotti is easily the best here.

  • @ThePavafan If Pavarotti and Corelli were to stand side by side and sing that last high C, Pavarotti would not be heard.

  • @tdeane34 No corelli would not be heard because pav had a far better resonance

  • @ThePavafan Well that's just silly talk. I love Pavarotti too but he certainly did not have "a better resonance" than Corelli.

  • @tdeane34 Yes he did

  • @ThePavafan Well that's a well thought out argument. How can someone argue with that? Give me a break.

  • @ThePavafan Do you even know what resonance means?

  • @ThePavafan I head both and I can tell you that Pav had a small voice but Corelli had a BIG one.

  • @italianoameta Corelli was a Spinto, so of course he must have had a bigger voice.

  • @ThePavafan ahahahahah! pav better resonance than the THUNDER CORELLI???

  • @tdeane34 Yes, but he could hold his high C far longer than Corelli

  • @petion2010 How do you know?

  • @tdeane34 How do I know what? I'm sorry, I don't really know what your question is about?

  • I wouldn't say he's the best, just my favourite

  • Interesting -- but speaking only of the men you have nominated, it would seem from the reviews etc. that the winner for CONSISTENCY throughout the career, Corelli would win hands down.
