I love the way these recordings from the 1930s "chug" along. That downbeat always reminds me of cartoons from that era where they all bop along in time with the music.Just a silly thought.
Most of America knows Bing the Movie Star... especially, as years go by, for "White Christmas..."
Very few know that it was his early jazz singing (in the early days of jazz) that put him on the map, and got him to Hollywood. With the exceptions of Armstrong, and perhaps Jolson, the most seminal male singer this country has ever produced.
this is for me,I love to swing dance man I get really go at on the lovely song sung by der bingle.I am a big fan and love this song and the time it was made most of all.I am only 53 years old.lawrence in new york city,ny December 20,2009
@Britcomsarebest Could you please list the entire personnel on the sleeve/pamphlet? I would like to compare it to a list I have from Geo. Thow circa 1970.
Makes an interesting contrast with the Isham Jones 1925 pioneering electrical recording of the same tune. Not only recording, but arranging advanced at a marked pace in the late 1920's and early 1930's.
To "bingcrosby1903", this recording was made with the Isham Jones orchestra. It is certainly one of my favorite Crosby recordings. I love the scat solo he does after the instrumental break.
@LordMgls If you're asking about when this version was recorded, it was recorded on April 15, 1932. There's actually another take that's been released, but I find this one to be much better.
@bingfan22 Agreed, I love that scat section. The whole song is magic. I've just discovered the old time music through a game called Fallout3...now my winamp playlist is full of them, including more from Bing and Bob. I'm just discovering legends like Django and The Ink Spots.

Anyone know the song Evelina sung by Bing sometime in his career? I can't find it anywhere.
MrPontiusPilate 1 year ago
Look for "Dear Evelina" or "Sweet Evelina".
There are a couple version on You tube. Don't
think Bing's is here though.

Trumpet solo? Anyone know?

I have a copy of this song with Isham Jones recorded 23rd. Apr.,1932 and the pamphlet states that the trumpeters were George Thow & Chelsea Quealey.
