Great choice. Interesting to note that one of the reasons for so many US fatalities was the lack of Armor/tanks. A foolish political decision (didn't want the Somalis to think we were invading their country). @jsyn1230 I think if you look it up there were quite a number lost over vietnam (and maybe korea?), not hundreds but probably dozens. I also once read of an incident of a c-130 crossing the boarder of turkey or iran or something in that region being shot down killing all crew members.

It does happen. Maybe not in very recent conflicts but back in vietnam the lose of a C-130 wouldn't even really trigger any media attention given
