Doesn't matter how fast you are. This place is all about track knowledge. Believe me, people will come past you (on bikes and cars) making you feel slow. You will not remember where the track goes, doesn't matter how many computer games you've done. Don't get carried away. Ride your own laps. Remember, people crash, NO insurance company will cover you, YOU pay for any damage you cause to the track/armco, recovery truck, track closure etc!!
@WhenIHadHair well.. to be honest with you.. it does matter how many computergames you play.. i played Grand prix legends a lot, and the track is exactly the same.. another great one to gain track knowledge is GT4 on the playstation.. .collegueas didn't believe me at first, but after a visit to the nurburgring i acted as a navigator while they were playing GT4, they both took more than a minute off their previous records..
This is true I completely agree. I've done like 500 laps or more on Forza Motorsports and I've come to know every single corner of the ring, not saying I'm the king of the ring but it makes all the difference. On the bike well there's al lot more work with the bumps, elevation changes, traffic, wind, noise but if you really know your way around you'll definitely enjoy it more
Took my Porsche there last September - it was a fantastic day weatherwise, but unfortunately it was a Saturday, and believe me every idiot in creation is there at the weekend! The ring was closed four times due to accidents. Definately best to go during the week if you can. Local motorcyclists are mental! (And yes I am a biker too).
Ok, so we drive ~3000 miles to Norway and back and fancy a trip to the Nurburgring, there was only one problem; how the hell do you get in? They're all for selling you high end performance pieces and stuff, oh, and the shop that sells the stickers was closed :@
Great video, I'm going there with 15 other fellow bikers. This will be a trip I'll never forget, have done Le Mans, Assen etc. Now it's time for the big one. Will follow the advice of Mr Neeves. That man sure knows his stuff.

it is better with the 600cc bike cause they' re built for situations like this... they work in higher rpm so they're better for the track than the litre bikes
I dreamed of doing this for over 12 years since i saw it in a bike mag in 1997 I went 2 weeks ago over bank hols it was amazin and not all that scary really its all hype but did see a few crashes
Oh yea....I lived that dream for over 12 years, I used to live 30 minutes from the N-ring and have over 100 laps around the track. Most fun you will ever have on a bike, weekends are dangerous, every idiot in Europe is out there, cars, bikes, buses, all run at the same time. I've seen more people killed there than any place else, best time to go is week days after work, normally nice and quite, just hard core locals.
The TT is longer, but the Nordschleife has more turns. Also on the IoM there are a lot of straights were you can relax, on the NS there are not much straights. Which one is more difficult? Hard to say.
20 euros for 8-10 minutes of track time? Thats fuckin ripoff! I get 4-6 hours for approx 30-50€ (depends track). But then again none of them is like nordschleife...
its well worth it the nurburg is about 14 miles long and its a nasty nasty track ull have a great laugh in the long bends just dont go to bad coz you dont have alot of run off till you hit the barrier... in some places theres no run off when i was out there the track closed every few hours because a biker needed to be airlifted out coz they crashed
Was there two months ago. Nearly lost it on my Kwak 636 on the turn before the one they show on the video. Was going a little too fast. Stupid cars nearly knocking me off at points because the entry line for cages is different to bikes. Very important to never go above 5th gear if you have 6 and harden your suspension a decent amount. If track is wet its very slippy.
Oh yes it is very slippery in places in the wet. No probs going into 6th gear though. My BB was showing just under 200 on the home straight. The more laps you do the better it is.
Yes that would be the only exception for 6th gear. What I was really getting at is not to be afraid to be in a much lower gear than normal and really go for it. I dont mean try and kill yourself on your first go but merely to push each gear to its max to get the best experience in my view.
Most important thing on the ring if your on the bike is the locals in the cars, they will & do slice you on the bends, keep well into the right and keep one eye on the mirrors. I took the first few laps really steady coz the corners come fast and its easy to get it wrong, I saw a ducati come off the track totaly mashed and the rider ate the armaco as there was nowhere for him to go.Leathers are a must. It is a great experience, Im going again this year. You need to respect the track.Good video
been there 4 times stay at sliders guest house english run.ask bren to take you out for a lap or two,you will learn it faster.stop off at spa ,then enjoy the b278 great roads in belgium and germany.adanu is great for a beer and view from the bridge
For me this is the second closest to going to the nurburgring besides playing Grand Turismo may some day when i have the cash to travel there from Australia.
But i did get to go on a track day at Phillip Island here which is amazing and yeah full leathers is recomended here as i have seen crashes here at 200kpm all the kevelar pannels are ok but the areas without it has major skin loss.
I rode without leathers and so did many others but bear in mind that mine is top notch Hein Gericke kevlar armour jacket and pants. Others had similar.
Great video. I have been doing avery similar route for years in cars and on bikes. You can pass through a town called Chimay famous for its beer of the same name, where there is a race track made up of public roads that are always open. It a good 4 mile lap and very fast and open with little traffic. They still race on it today. I then go cross country to Spa then up to the ring. Defo look up Chimay on a map!
Important piece of advise: avoid riding the Ring in the weekend: all lunatics riding cars/motorcycles/coaches in Germany & surrounding countries will be there as well and that makes it really dangerous! The speed at which they drive will range from very slow (coach goin' uphill) to very fast (souped-up Porsches and such). Do not even think about chasing the locals driving Porsches in the corners! And switch your brain to street mode when you leave the Ring: The nearby roads are policed heavily.
I am also as excited as Michael Neeves, not because I am going to the Nurburgring, its because I am the first viewer to post the first comment. Thanks MCN for the upload, but I was actually looking for a much longer video of your travel to the Nurburgring, you could have shown atleast one lap that Michael Neeves did on the ring.
