What a very nicely done video!! I'm a model and I have been working on art videos from the model's perspective. I think even non artists are interested in the art world. As a model it's gratifying to be able to contribute to the wonderful work artists like you do.
I wish I had such teachers at my uni-real teachers with skills and knowledge, not the old fucks that I argue with every day and who have last painted when they were my age, and now they take their checks and dont give a flying shit
sir, let me tell you that I deeply respect your skill, as I have come across a lot of sh*t concerning anatomy and figure drawing. I don't know, whether it's been your aim, but, your figures really DO look like those of Da Vinci - nice, clear, sharp and visible structures. I've been having problems with figure myself and I appreciate any good video on the topic (and there's not much of it, both in the internet or in bookstores...) I also love your writing, it's so appropriate to the whole !!!
Mentler... know him from conceptart. Altough everything he does, I mean his work, seems a bit strange to me, I really admire his skills, technique and style...
this is a good video..i found barrington barbers tutorial books a big help when beginning with learning anatomy and proportion. i recently made my first video post on youtube, it's a time lapse life drawing too, but and i am half afraid to mention it on any page as i don't want to be spamming, i really just need some feedback and opinion from people with a mutual interest.. if anyone would drop by my channel and have a look and leave a comment, i would gladely reciprocate
My first DVD in the Heads, Faces & Features series is ready to purchase. Volume One covers the structure of the skull and muscles of the face and neck.
Congratulations on the great media attention as of late. Looking forward to seeing the new vids and all. Right now we're watching a lot of Hale, but would like to get your vids.
The first DVD should be ready in a few weeks... will start taking pre-order in a couple of weeks.
It is the first of two on faces and features and is over an hour an a have on the side and front view of the skull plus the muscles of expression. The cost will be around 49.00

So... Life drawing is a form of aesthetics and the study of bodily aesthetics? I'm REALLY new to this, but it seems most of the people drawn have larger thighs than average. Is this the style? Or is there not a particular form or weight that the drawn people must have? Because most of the people drawn seem to be rather... well.. hefty. :/
Wow... not exactly what I meant... I was just meaning that for aesthetics I like the more slender anime-like bodies. And you have to admit, a lot of these people are rather hefty. That is the only reason I asked if it was the art style, or merely the style of the artist himself... I didn't think I'd be assaulted by people who are offended by my honest questions and opinions. :(
(for those who aren't offended by my question, IS it the art style to draw them more hefty?)
The difference is that anime bodies are generally anatomically incorrect, and his drawings are mostly anatomically correct. To draw in the anime style is a stylistic choice. But to be good at it, you have to know the rules before you can break them.
Not a problem. Just understand, the anime style really shouldn't be the first thing you learn. It's a good style, it has its place, but it can teach a lot of bad habits if you aren't classically trained first. I've done some training as an animator and conceptual artist, and it was one of the first things I learned, unfortunately. I have a lot to unlearn. lol So just be careful of that.
Yeah! I've been noticing that. Like, when drawing my hand, I drew it JUST LIKE my hand looks, but it looked "wrong" because it was right, if that makes sense. I mean, I've begun realizing that in order to draw proper anime you have to draw it how one would perceive it to be, rather than how it really is. Like the hand-- it is shaped rather differently from a REAL hand, therefore you have to draw it differently, or people will think you "messed up" even if it looks like a real hand.
Yeah, that's about the size of it. Like I said, though, you have to know the rules before you can break them. It's always best to have a grasp of the fundamentals before you attempt to form a style.
Just beautiful work - very impressive. Just subscribed & looking forward to more!
P.S. - Hey, MANNYDRAWS - this isn't the place to advertise yourself, it's the place to comment on THIS artist. Doesn't make me want to visit your videos - at all.
Haha, I love that camera turn he does. I always wonder if there like "ok now look down and look up to turn and pierce into the camera lens". Anyway, he draws good andreex89. Much better than the photorealistic digital mud shit all across youtube.
Congratulations Michael it had all gone quiet I was wondering when they were going to come out.. I'll probably be importing, are you doing Pal editions?
ive got an old set of robert beverly hale lectures, i love them to death and i'm glad you're trying to make his teachings live on but do you credit him at all? because it all seems so similar...
and yes gblovelight, he can draw any pose from his mind.
