Sadly, the Catholic Church being the only thing that survived kind of caused trouble as people looked for somewhere to belong in Europe. If only some of the secular institutions had survived as well. Oh well, history is full of what ifs.

Well, we did get For The Greater Good of God on the same album... and that one clearly is about religion's controversy ("Are you a man of peace or a man of holy war?"). The equation is now equal. And if that's not enough, we also got The Number of the Beast (although not originally about Satan and all, having 666 in the chorus is a nice "fuck you").
Anyway, I don't think the members of Iron Maiden stated their religious views... which is a good thing since everyone can find what they want.

@metalrulesforrever Yeah, the religious blah, blah grows tiring. However, just a quick correction. The Dark Ages weren't caused by Christianity, but the collapse of the Roman Empire. Sadly, the Catholic Church being the only thing that survived kind of caused trouble as people looked for somewhere to belong in Europe. If only some of the secular institutions had survived as well. Oh well, history is full of what ifs.
