He's not the greatest singer in the world but he's got that thing going where his voice breaks up even when he's trying to put out a basic note. You can also see that he gives up at several points. It's bullshit when that happens to you on stage, and you've got half a set to complete.
I think he does, but it'd be more to do with his singing style. If I sing along and try to sound like him my voice is usually out for the count about 3/4 of the way through the CD. I sound a lot more like me when I sing along to their stuff now, and because I don't go screwing my voice by doing dumb shit like singing along to bands like strung out my voice is about twice as strong and far more controllable than it was a year ago. Two years ago I'd probably say I couldn't sing at all
