Being a pilot, I would expect that at times in windy conditions, this could really get interesting in a quick hurry. Looks like after you rotate, you need to make a pretty good left turn or kiss the hill side. Good vid...thanks

No, they built it there because they need one and there is no other possible location for it. Mountains, wind, rain and fog dictate everything up there. I think, it´s a wonderfull video. The pilots must be goog pilots, to make such a approach. And on the End of the video, there you can see the wonderful landscape of iceland. In the future, I want to travel to Iceland, and make holidays there. It´s so beautiful there.

This approach is under special permission. The surrounding mountains are too close and within the airport safety zone. This is a dead end fjord so there is no published missed approach procedure. Operation into this airport requires special permission from aircraft manufacturer, Icelandic CAA, insurance, needs special training for crew, experience and operational handbook. It´s critical when calculating single engine performance. That´s why I put "extreme" in the title.
