  • Nice Conklin

  • Thank you everyone again! Please feel free and send me a message if you have any questions, or contact me through Facebook! ( just look for the logo...)

    cheers! E

  • This sounds like something I would hear underwater. It sounds killer!

  • Yea!!! Your my hero. A solo bass pice that works and sounds like music!!!! You got some octave and or harmonizer on there?

  • amazing. great sound. :)

  • God damn thats a fantastic tone. God...damn.

  • that is what fretless bass does.. and of course such great bassist like eric czar. excellent!

  • なんだこの音は・・・

    すごい・・・

  • What's the trick to making those lower strings sound clear with plenty of note definition? Is it about your amp settings and/or the type of pickups you're using?

  • Would love to here a full 3 or 4 minutes of this.Have to keep playing it over and over.Takes Bass Guitar to whole new level!!!!!!

  • No synth pickups, but surely there's extra reverb in the mix somewhere? Brilliant sound!

  • Beautiful!!

  • I made this my ringtone. I hope Eric doesn't mind.

  • @slan77 How did you get it to be ringtone?would like to have it also.

  • Good playing bro... Tasteful, and played clean...

  • this makes me want to have a loop button on youtube...

  • Great sound Eric. You're such an innovator.

  • ...i know it's been a while, but thank you all for watching, and the kind words!

  • amazing

  • flat or roundwounds?

  • now that's what I want to see out of every bass vid.

    something that SOUNDS GOOD.

you, sir are what is up.

  • lol that bass is freaking HUGE!!! and i thought 6 strings had a wide neck!

  • this is delicious

  • The jargon is, "there is so much unexplored musical territory on a 4-string bass." I think I can safely say that, "there is SO MUCH MORE unexplored territory on ERB's." Simply breathtaking Eric!

  • *applause, applause, applause!*

  • C'était incroyable!

  • Am I the only one who replaces the actual music with meow that are in the same pitch? That's just what I got out of this

  • it has frets.... then why is it FRETLESS?!

  • @snuffying It's a lined fretless bass.

  • @snuffying It's fretless because you are retarded and don't know how to listen. Also because it's fretelss.

  • @snuffying no. those are only lines.... the fretboard has no frets...

  • @snuffying this are fret lines, not real frets

  • 6 people didn't want to make 200.

  • Amazing!

  • its a tree trunk!

  • @ComandnConquerFreak The neck seems to be fairly thin for a 7-string.

  • hi what kind of strings do u reccomend for this bass? thanks

  • There's absolutely nothing to dislike here. What happened to those 6 people?

  • cool sound. what all effects used? P.S. your a great at vibrato.

  • cool sound. what all effects used?

  • that was definitely one of the best fretless playing ive seen, Cool stuff brah!

  • That was AMAZING! I'm going to watch it again. :)

  • For me, fretless bass has the greatest tone ever. I just love the effects of this playing. It's deep and haunting.

  • it's a amazing peace. you play it really with feeling. it's so amazing to listen. nice. keep the good work on ;)

  • @cybershark1991 yeah, it's an amazing PIECE...

  • So beautiful-- like a bowed instrument in places-- wow, I can't figure that out except maybe for the pickups but they're like no pickups I've ever heard!!!

  • No, you see markers for where the frets would be.

  • that bass has frets..........?

  • @sploogefest14 Whats the difference then?

  • @PlayTheVideoAlready The sound, and having to put your fingers on the "frets" instead of just behind them, and being able to have a more in-depth vibrato technique.

  • It has frets? The title said it doesnt.

  • @PlayTheVideoAlready it hasn't any fret on it, they're painted, just markers, because intonation is much harder and way more complex than in a fretted instrument. It hasn't the same percussive approach but more melodic, as you can hear (you do, right?) the sound is way softer and pretty much like a cello or a doublebass. its language is different because of its melodic and expressive possibilities it kind of gets a more melodically-relevant role within a musical piece.

  • GREAT!!!!! AWESOME!!!

  • tab this shit nigga

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing! Did you have the frets removed of does conklin make fretless 7 string basses?

  • Dude this is so fucking sick! Keep up the good work man! :D

  • trippy man

  • nice

  • are you using an octave pedal?

  • incredible singing tone dude..!!

  • With a 7-string, is that one string higher or one string lower then a 6-string?

  • @XcatisX lower, its just adding more baritone to it

  • @SiantDread It can be lower or higher: the heaviest gauge stock strings to come with my Conklin GT-7 were .127. This suits the B0 pretty well; I would not recommend tuning lower at that gauge. Conklin DO offer low C# strings .194 gauge and .165 gauge low F# strings but the tuning on the bass when it arrived was B0 E1 A1 D2 G2 C3 F3.

  • @XcatisX lower

  • eric..le tue melodie entrano nel sangue e riaffiorano dalla pelle increspata! sei unico e grande..riesci a toccare le corde del basso e le corde del cuore...magnifico

  • this is the shit you see on some kind of trippy desert video game.

  • This is the theme song of the Conklin website!

  • Is that sound just the natural sound of bartolini pickups?

  • Is the sound you have with your bass common to all Conklin fretless basses? Excellent song, love your use of harmonics!!

  • Did you add just a little bit of delay?

  • Just... AWESOME!! But "No Synthesizer"?? Can't imagine this^^

  • First time I herd or saw of you Eric. Great work truly enjoy your playing and creativity

  • looks hard ive just got a normal 4 string fret bass and ive been wondering is it harder on a fretless?

  • Clearly, this man is cheating! Hahaha. I kid. Excellent video.

  • Did you use a loop? Because at 1:17 I hear a sliding note while your left hand is not up to any fret...

  • @Domenix71 he uses delay and that's what you heard

  • @RYANN36 Thanks. That's what I was supposing too.

  • Annotation is right. those things are awesome, but you also have to slide along like that to get some of those tones.

  • Do 7 string basses add a low F sharp or a high F to the standard six string set up?

  • @13thbass13 You can tune it either way. I believe most of them are designed for a low F# though.

  • @13thbass13 i have always seen basses (after the 5 string) get higher strings. after a point it gets to low with the F#

  • thius is great! makes feel like sex!

  • woah very very nice playing dude.

  • are u sing wah?? or something???

  • amazing sound

  • the phrasing is the best part of this

  • Impressive.

    I mean, holy craaaaaack!!!!!!!!

  • That's some serious mwah right there, *****

  • @ghitaciprian: IMO, Eric is using FX like painters use mixed paints and different brushes-to add nuance and texture to their images.

  • i know that, why are you telling me that ?!

  • @ghitaciprian Oops, didn't see the little smilie at the end of your post. Thought you might be doggin the man. My bad.

  • Very nice! Melodic, haunting - very cool stuff. I'd love to one day own a 7 string.

  • wow awesome. I have the Conklin groove tools 7 string and this looks like the fretless version. that is some great sound you got there, nice phrasing. 10/10

  • what effects do you use?

  • i love it.

  • Are you serious? The "fretlines" are laid in to the fingerboard. Wow.

  • @0penCasket Uhh yes it is.

  • @0penCasket Besides, you cannot get such a vibrato with a fretted bass. I have played fretted, fretless, and upright for more than 27 years.

  • oh come on man, are you a musician or not ?!?! yes you can get that vibratoo but the echo of it only with the mixer ;)

  • @ghitaciprian Yep. I know Eric is using effects here, but he is also incorperating the natural sound of the bass.

  • Really like this piece. Is there a longer version available anywhere?!?

  • 1:16, the pitch raises with his hand being off the fret'less' board. he must have a pitch shifter on it, or something..

  • i can definately hear either a delay or an echo...and whatever else is there i want

  • Those are just lines on the fingerboard, not frets, and he's hitting the harmonics so that they don't sound all the way to get that octave effect. That's a legit vid man, fretless bass rules. Especially ones by Conklin.

  • Who said it wasn't fretless?

And he doesn't hit his harmoics all the time. When he plays the theme for the 2nd time, you can clearly hear there's the same note on a lower octave added to the one he's actually playing.

Not saying the vid isn't legit, just that it's not just the bass, there's plenty of effects on it... not htat's it's a bad thing

  • sick sound

  • comprate un arpa

  • Fucking wow. I just wish it was longer.

  • ya the popup says its just the bass but he has to be running effects

  • @08si138

Its a Conklin bass. They have a knob or switch to get the synth-y sound

  • @TheSmooshster That's not it, All you're hearing is the bass, some delay, and what appears to be a second track underneath it recorded separately.

  • Well, just from the dimensions of the bass guitar, it is going to make that synth type sound. They all sound like that give or take some. The frets really do change the song.

  • sound. My bad.

  • This isn't a super-hard piece, but damn he makes it sound good. His harmonic technique is first-rate; it is so hard to get a harmonic ring like that without bumping the string and making it stop. Fricking awesome. I have played for over 25 years and Eric is one of the most versatile bassist that I have ever seen! Those that have seem this should look at his other videos. I am just fucking amazed! And, if one more person asked if it is a fretless because they see the lines, I will choke you!

  • is it fretless?

  • smartass!

  • @skruvmaejsel

Just listen to it's tone and the slides. It definately is fretless.

  • this sounds just like the version on the Conklin site

and I mean that as a compliment. fantastic!!!

  • It is the same song, and the same bassist who played it.

  • sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just magic

  • sick !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a chorus ,, delay .. volume pedal is all i hear... it sounds dam good tho..

  • why people want to say something ?

    just listen and cry =)

  • 5+!!!)))))

  • man you have to make a solo album! you are a talent musician! :) 5**********

    conklin sounds dreamly

  • JUST BRILLIANT!

  • fucking amazing

  • Amazing very nice sound. :)

  • wow that sounds amazing... 1 ? tho kan i have that red bass in the background lol later man

  • That was really cool. Great sound, great song.

  • Does anyone know what effects he's using through out most of his video's?

  • only guessing but id say a multi chorus, delay/echo and reverb...

  • amazing!

    congratulations =D

  • wow

awesome playing and one hell of an instrument

  • fretless? Then what are the lines? i dont get it.

  • Maybe they're just guide lines. It definitely is fretless though, you can tell by how smooth his slides are

  • those are just "guide lines"...

  • the lines are guides, they're painted on, they're not frets.

  • markers

it just makes it easier to learn and get muscle memory

  • the fret lines are still there on some fretless basses, but they're just flat wood, there are no actual frets.

  • Damn... What did you use to record this??

  • its a conklin gt-7 fretless

  • Nah, I meant what device he used to record on the computer

  • anyone know the tuning???

  • B E A D G C F, is the standard for tuning on a bass like this but I don't if he changed it

  • 4 strings does just fine

  • "4 strings does just fine?"...sure it does, as does 5, 6, whatever's right for the music you're playing. Stop being so insecure and go practice (your 4 string, 5 string, or whatever's right for your music)...don't be intimidated by other's musicality.

  • A carperter with only a few tools can only do so much. Why limit yourself?Think about it.

  • shit man... Good tone... great great job \../

  • Bravo!

  • Hey , we can recognize the diffrence between the fretless and fret bass

  • It's obvious that lot of people can't.Some just aren't exposed to the wonder of a fretless bass.

  • Man, that's pretty sweet!

  • sounds like a synth

  • No synth.Just the natural fretless sound.A little reverb, some chorus.

  • right this is why i love fretless

just the matter of staying in tune with nature having that natural sound and being able to have such intonation...just thought i'd share

  • Conklin GT-7 fretless.

  • Beautiful,Beautiful,Beautiful!!Thats how to play a fretless bass.PAY ATTENTION AMERICA!

  • Pay attention THE WORLD! :D

  • oh, i am sorry then. i just never seen the ones with fretlines, although a second i posted the last comment- i kinda thought about it as being a possibility! thanks.

  • incase your a bass noob, its called "fretlined". it is fretless, but where the frets would be, there are flat lines. So i hope that answers your curiosity

    BLAGOVESTAPISCOPO

  • It is not fretless- i see the frets

  • It has lines to indicate where the notes are for the average electric bass player. The bass is fretless.

  • lol... fail

  • that was for blagovestapiscopo... but then i saw his post apologizing.. so i take it back.. ok i'm a little drunk nevermind..

  • no problem-BTW, i am a girl:)

  • what reverb are you using?

  • How awesome!

  • is that a groove tool or a custom?

  • Groove tools

  • very nice

    jeff

  • One day I hope I become as great of a composer as you are. I can only hope right? :)

  • amazing instrument. I like the sound and the music.

  • i love you
