Mike, I feel like stunnedf by a horse and want to stop piano playing for ever. How come we´ve never heard of you over here in Germany. They should print full-size posters of YOU instead of all those other mediocre guys. Your canta Island version is my special favourite. I´ve seen Herbie improvising solo on the Leno show. He is not better. How can you make that digital thing sound so natural? Please, give us more of your art here on youtube.
(Afraid this sounds too exaggerated to everybody else)
how did you get it to sound like an old rhodes? is that just the recording with the slight distortion or are you using effects. I hear a little delay maybe some overdrive?
@groovatious If the occasion presents itself, will do! You play like you've listened to Winton Kelly and Miles -- and a few other keyboard technocrats. Good stuff!
I use the ION for my funk stuff, but haven't gigged with it yet. It's heaps of fun, but I don't use it as much as I should - am looking at selling it actually.
what is that box on your keys. Is that bass coming from the Nord, I notice some sequencing is going on. I am much older than you, I am converted B-3 player, currently I use a 76 Fantom X Rland, Pro PaI Pro Piano, and Yamaha Motif Es 76, Ihad a Cx-3 Korg organ and trade it for the Yamaha stupid move on my part. Please advise.
I was going to invest inhte Nord keys, however the salesman himself said they were durable for road, home amd home studio excellent, use on the road very fragile, I love the Nord, I am afraid to invest I am weekend musician
dang dude!!! I've seen a couple of your videos!! and it's awesome that there is still some JAZZ being played out in the world!! your good man, keep it up!!
Wow man I've been listening to all your videos and you have such a groove...I'ts impossible. Like a previous commenter said, the only drawback is the digital musicians not following your lead :P
Hey man, well, being a jazz tune, there are 'guideline' chord changes for the tune (have a look at a jazz lead sheet or real/fakebook for example). I'm basically taking those chords and adding/extending/substituting chords along the way.
Excellent work! I'm looking into buying an Electro myself. Is that the 73 key version? I've had a few concerns that it's not big enough. I don't want the Stage 88 because of the price and the hammerweights on the organ and the synth apparently isn't that great. As an improviser, have you ever found only 73 keys to be an issue?
Thanks mate. I personally like the electro. I haven't used the rack, but it's basically the same as the kb version, minus the kb. Just make sure the controller you're planning to use with it has decent velocity settings.
Very nice!!

groovatious 3 years ago
do you use the Ion much?, you should put up a vid, i bet its feeling quite lonely!
it's a "synthy" synth so i can see why you dont gig with it,no needs for analog bass and pads for Jazz lol

Hey man, the box is a Behringer multi effects box - I use it for reverbs/delays. The bass and drums are coming from a backing track. Cheers!

I think it's a very durable instrument. Just be careful of the real-wood endcaps, but it's all very solid. Get the soft case for it and you're set!

weaponEX 4 years ago
Only when I'm attempting those Oscar Peterson-ish double octave runs!
But in all honesty, most of the time it's not an issue. The portability more than makes up for it.
groovatious 4 years ago
My thoughts too - portability is what favours this over a rack and 88 key controller
