cherlubavitch, there is no synagogue I know of that does not make accommodation for people who cannot afford to attend services.

When you're initially centrally funded like Chabad and then only prey on a few wealthy prospects, it's easy to provide High Holiday seats. A real synagogue relies on membership fees to do thing such as, oh, pay a rabbi's salary. Those who decide they're Jewish once a year and entitled to unseat members who have been paying all year to keep a synagogue running present a real dilemma. Another alternative for those wanting a "seat" is to join a normal, self-funded community - a synagogue.
