  • These actresses are morons. How is a Florescent light bulb with mercury, going to be of any value in your house? If it breaks you have a toxic situation and even if it doesn't you still have mercury outgassing or poisoning in your home. Maybe that's why these women are stupid, their brains are fried from using these bulbs. Amazing how some people fall for every dumb piece of propaganda thrown out there.

  • my bulb wants to fuck her

  • THis is unreal. environmentalist fucks want us poisoned over this global warming propaganda. fuck this.Instead of carbon dioxide in the air, lets put fucking mercury in it. so stupid.

  • Wait, how can Misha Mansoor in any way be responsable for something this big?

  • The CFL bulb can kill you. It is loaded with mercury and has cost the United States hundreds of manufacturing jobs. No more plants to make incandescent bulbs in the United States. They've all been moved to Mexico or China by General Electric (GE) who made over $14 billion and didn't pay one dime in U.S. taxes.

Jeffrey Immelt (GE CEO) and Obama are buddies. Google the relationship.

There is enough mercury in one CFL bulb to poison 528 gallons of water.

  • Great vid showcasing how wonderful the CFL bulb really is and what it is doing to save the earth. It is also great seeing such starpower behind this movement. Everyone ignore the angry trolls who badmouth these bulbs, they are just bitter about CFLs being the new choice in lighting.

  • was dat natalie portman??

  • I remember when all the environmentalists were adamant that we had to stop using paper bags (which would degrade) and switch to plastic bags, stop using glass bottles (which would degrade) and switch to plastic bottles (search Ocean of Plastic). Now we have to start using these bulbs that contain mercury, that no one will dispose of properly, so that in 20 years or less we'll all have ground water issues. It wouldn't bother me so much except that so-called environmentalists are really just sheep

  • Do a search for

    Dirty truth about CFL bulbs

These corporate scrills get paid well for the bullshit they profess

LED bulb don't create dirty electricity

  • VERY COOL. I have a partial solution, I design walkable neighborhoods and made a video about reducing how much we drive. It's at otis31755 Let me know what you think?

    Patrick Cox, AICP

  • great stuff but we do it better give us a call

  • LED bulbs can save the planet from the mercury of CFL bulbs plus the savings of energy

  • Actors are just retard chimps who don't understand poor Chinese people are dying from the harsh chemicals used to make these cfl's. We can't make them in america because of the MERCURY used to make them. the epa banned it

  • THIS VIDEO- is complete bullshit propaganda! Do some research and you will see why.

  • Did I hear it right?

Did she start with saying: "This bulb will light your ass?

  • this bulb helped save my penis from herpes. never have sex with the lights off.

  • Just throw them in the trash! Who is going to recycle them?I mean really?

  • I nad a CFL almost catch fire once. It was in a regular socket that did not have a dimmer on it. I was sitting at my computer desk and it started flickering and I smelled something like burning plastic. I looked up and the bulb was smoking like crazy. I had two more like it and I do not trust either of them anymore. Lucky I was in the room. Go Incandescent!!!!

  • DO NOT USE IN DIMMER SWITCHES....THEY CAN MELT AND CATCH YOUR HOUSE ON FIRE........GOOGLE IT AND SEE......BE VERY CAREFUL.......REMOVE YOUR DIMMERS BEFORE 2014

  • Yeah, if you break this bulb, get yourself family and pets out of the room immediately!

What a piece of out and out propaganda! they pretend to care about the planet, and encourage us all to dump mercury, and live with the mercury fumes! Mercury is the most dangerous element on the planet after nuclear waste!

  • This bulb could poison my family with toxic mercury if broken or burn my house down (if made without a fuse-China). This bulb will not be used by my family any longer due to the fact I cannot just throw it away but have to take it to a special place for proper disposal.

This bulb is a pain in my neck!

  • So put poisonous bulbs in your house and landfills to save the polar bears.

    Environmentalists have a screw loose.

  • @mindprism Honestly it's only if it breaks, then you have a problem. So don't throw them in the trash or break one, recycle them. But global warming is the biggest scam ever, and all these idiot politicians and actors that back it are retards.

  • fuck CFLs anyone who promotes them. they look like shit

  • @noreaga12326 man, i support change ,your precious bulbs are from the stone age , and thay swallow sick amount of energy from the grid. my town was underwater for a week, flooded by a little river that normaly is 2 meters wide and maybe half meter deep ,it never happened before, also we had an F2 tornado touch down like 100 km from here, also something new to this part of the planet and everywhere shit starting to unfold planet wide, and then you stock up your bulbs becouse their light is nicer

  • @AltairTAU its not perfect but its mutch more efficient ,and becouse time is the main issue here this is the "smartest" choice becouse it's on the shelves

  • @AltairTAU also just to really see where i comming from whit this, if thay make incandescents more efficient than CFLs than ofcourse im gonne buy them BUT i cant see them sadly aniwhere yet , But what i can see is planet that deteriorates and on the selves there is allready something that has a smaller impact so i take it, and for to the mercury... 1. its basicalli nothing, u get more pollution from the air,2. its not everyday that a bulb brakes and 3. dont brake it.. there are recycling points

  • @AltairTAU yes, i am proud of my house and i like to make it look nice and pleasent. thats what people do when they're proud of their home. Incandescents, in my opinion have nicer light quality and im not gona convert my home looking like the inside of a hospital or an office just because some moron greenie thinking that cfls will stop global warming. any normal person knows its all BULL SHIT.

  • @AltairTAU lol... u really think that incandescent bulbs is causing climate change??? dude, go to the mental institution and get ur brain cells checked out. just in case u didnt know, climate change will always occur. we periods of time where the earth will warm up, then we go thru periods where the earth cools down. if global warming is really happen, then perhaps u could tell me why it snowed in new orleans in 2009?? or maybe u can tell me why Miami, Florida had record cold temperatures???

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @noreaga12326 so man , you only focus on the fraze global warming, what that means in reality is that the rising global average temp. are messing up the otherwise normal heath distribution of the plane couseing CLIMATE CHANGE , witch is the exact answer to your questions about the new arleans and miami anomalys, .also the periodik climate change is do to the periodic changing of the earths orbit arround the sun witch is a really long process and we are in an interglacial state i continue w8

  • @AltairTAU Unless there are dramatic improvments on cfls or leds, (WHICH I DOUBT) i can almost gurantee u that most ppl will stick with their edison bulbs. U said that CFLs arent the best light but we gota do something to save the earth. 1st off, theres no evidence stating that CFLs will save the planet. In fact, with all the harmful stuff i've been reading about on cfls, they'l probably do more damage to this planet. no offense, but i believe that you're a bit paranoid about this.

  • @AltairTAU incandescents do give off more heat than light but i live in new york where it gets pretty dam cold in the winter. So any extra heat is always welcomed in my house. During the summer months, i just dont leave the lights on as much. Very simple. I dont know if u know but Halogen bulbs (energy efficient incandescents) are already in the market. they look exactly like ur standard bulbs. it has a capcil on the bottom to prevent the bulb from getting too hot. Thats how its efficient.

  • why is it that the energy saving bulb manufactures do not sell these bulbs in a special box that that the bulb should also be returned via a free-post back to the manufacturer? if they continue to sell these , it should be easy and free to recycle.

  • @rainbowsalads because then they cant afford to make the bulb. do you know how much it would cost per a bulb to mail them back to places all over the world? i mean Christ. how many sites would you need operational just to deal with the hundreds of thousands of bulbs mailed in. it would be extremely expensive to do a return box.

  • @gibblets17 it would cost around 20p.

  • @rainbowsalads... for the extra packaging ...and say 70p postage in the uk to get it to a recycle centre.

just trying to think of a way to stop them being put in the bin. : /

  • @rainbowsalads 20p? I am not sure what currency that is.

  • also , this is a way forward... plus almost all household stuff has danger in some form, but if people are so affraid than be carefull with these bulbs and please dont disencourage people to buy these things... the last thing u guys gonna worry about is that tiny amount of mercury when the climate gets more out of hand . Time is not on humanity side on this one so dont be so picky everithing has risk so "suck it up"

  • @AltairTAU CFLs give off disgusting light. incandescents are much nicer. just to piss off all u liberals, maybe i outa leave my lights on 24 7. oh and by the way, i have stocked up on hundreds of boxes of incandescents.

  • @noreaga12326 so the warming from this state of the orbit had built up over thousends of years, whats happening now is off the charts its sudden and scary .... and its should be a responsible thing to pick things that are limmiting the stress on the planet ,many smart and responsible people made the "sacrefice" of chosing these kind of products , i agree maybe their lights arent the best BUT the shit this planet is in right now is becouse humanity was irresponsible in the past so ...

  • @noreaga12326 and its not a religion as you called it , u will see when you feel the impact of this , like we did here.... it was a tragedy , many houses collapsed do to the floods ,and its going on world wide, im not against your freedom.... and its not just about these bulbs ,well if u will or allready have kids i hope you will understand this take care man

  • @AltairTAU i respect your opinion and what you're saying. But i just dont buy this climate change bull. As long as there's an earth, its always gona go thru phases of climate change. u can't blame the light bulb for the warm up of this planet. that is just rediculious (in my opinion) Look at all the government buildings and offices of major cities in ths US. most of them use flourecent lights. That, rite there should be enough.

  • @AltairTAU i totally forgot that we had messaged eachother a few months back. My apologies for repeating what i told u a few months ago but everything i've posted to u, still stands. have a good night

  • @AltairTAU If u actually believe in the nonsense that cfls "STOP GLOBAL WARMING" then u seriously need to go to a mental institution. You Greenies will do anything to try and convince ppl that these shitty cfls are better. Incandescents give off much better light and for that reason, im willing to pay a little more out of my pocket. And that should be up to me, not the government. Just because ur brain washed into believing these green myths doesnt mean that others do. most ppl arent that stupid

  • There is a given amount of oil.

There is a given amount of carbon.

We live on a planet that allows no release of any gases to space.

No legislation will change this reality.

Slowing the usage of the oil changes nothing.

  • it could be the most hazardous household object in the world

  • @gmodrules123456789

it could be the most hazardous household object in the world ? It most decidedly IS the most dangerous household item ever!

  • @compukenny You are wrong. The amount of Mercury in these lights are the same as the amount needed to fill the tip of a pen. Settle down people.

  • Comment removed

  • it can can cause birth defects

  • sorry but i wont get these bulbs EVER in my life so i dislike cfls

  • personally i really dont give two shits about reducing my electric bill by $10 and it seems that there are more anti-CFL videos about the dangers of the Mercury containing bulbs than there are of them saving the environment and the truth is they really dont save the planet considering the fact that they do contain mercury but they reduce power consumption witch can be good but when they go to the landfills they release they mercury gas into the air and the metal goes into ground so be careful.

  • this bulb is toxic

  • CFL is posion. Use LED bulbs than CFL

  • @ASLforever100

YES. And this is the near future anyway. Which makes me wonder why the GOVMT and all these morons are pushing for a hazardous, less desirable short term interim solution!

  • Just inject the mercury into my veins why don't you! Oh wait they do!

  • Oh my gosh. Carbon dioxide. Oh no. Idiots, what do you think the trees in the rainforest breath!

  • How many broken CFLs does it take to poison the environment? How many broken CFLs does it take to create a HAZMAT situation? How much Mercury vapor does it take to damage my child's brain? How many China manufactured items does it take to poison my family? CFLs, contain the MOST TOXIC SUBSTANCE ON THE PLANET... MERCURY. How is THAT saving the planet National Geographic???

  • @SadEarthling Do you eat your light bulbs or something? Seriously, how many of these things are you planning on breaking? Geez, JUST DON'T BREAK THE THINGS and take them to a place where they are disposed of properly. It's pretty damned simple.

  • @idontcare80

tell that to children throwing dog toys or nerf balls.

  • @vibratingstring Buy the CFLs with covers.

  • @idontcare80

Well, then if there is going to be LAW requiring the use of a bulb that becomes a health hazard when broken (remember, the govmt banned mercury thermometers) then there should be LAW requiring covers on the bulbs.

Better idea: skip the CFL altogether and wait for advanced LEDs in a few years.

  • gee i guess national geographic thinks that killing us is the best thing .how bout they start with themselves and these dizzy broads?

what will the mercury do when the bulbs are crushed in the dumps?

what will the dirty electricity do to the environment and those of us in it?

what will this company look like once it becomes known how dangerous the 2 types of radiation coming from CFLs is?

  • people always get confused cfls are not bulbs they are tubes shaped into spirals

  • pleas watch new video on my channel about a new invention it will save the planet

  • this bulb, is a chemical bomb waiting to go off, just drop it and feel global warming turn up the heat.

  • Unfortunately, even worse than the clear mercury hazard, THIS BULB emits dangerous levels of electromagnetic radiation. National Geographic should have done their homework on THIS BULB before running THIS AD and should instead be urging Phillips, Sylvania and GE to spend the nickel it would cost to filter THIS BULB to prevent its EMF from harming human health. In the meantime, buy an LED bulb instead. It has no mercury and emits no EMF.

  • Save the fucken planet???? or is it better to say prevent the planet to recycle all of its shitty contents: humans?

  • This is AWESOME! I wish NatGeo would re-air or remake this PSA for Ionic Bulb which not only saved electricity, it cleans the air!! And since its negative ions can remove volcanic dust too makes it a true "life saver" for the home AND THE PLANET!

  • Um, over the course of a year, eveyone having just one will take 1 million cars of the road... how long are those cars off the road.... ALSO, this one bulb will save 1000 tones of carbon dioxide, presumably over its whole long life added up.... Plus the contaminants in this bulb... I dunno, I think I proffer just lighting my house!

PS, i like the heat that comes off of the original light bulbs, it saves me running the heater

  • we human waste so many times in war, then rebuild our city, and then more and more expansion leaving forest and sea vanishing bit by bit. instead of doing this, why not we advanced to built a MAIN city every 200km or 1000km if better, with buildings that don't take much space but can support living of a metropolis with quality standard, with these restriction, the habitat of these animal won't be affected and we can enjoy the view of these beautiful sea and forest around us

  • why don't they put in a car

  • To anyone complaining about mercury - don't break the bulb. Simple as that.

  • @anonymouse876 since when is a major population going to follow that, and even so, kids get to things

  • @RivelDog1

Unfortunately, it is now a LAW that we must buy mercury bulbs-- and you MUST follow it in 2012 in the US. Unless you call your congresswoman and demand that the law be repealed.

  • @anonymouse876

good luck on that. You obviously don't have children.

  • If you dispose of CFLs properly, there is no danger from the mercury. Incandescent lamps convert most of the energy they consume into heat. They make light by running electricity through a filament until it glows white hot. You need to run your air conditioner to remove the heat, thus using even more energy. CFLs create very little heat, and use 60% less energy to make the same amount of light. They also last much longer than incandescent lamps. Don't waste money.

  • @Reichlk1

"Proper Disposal" is impossible to achieve. Better to just not use poisons to begin with.

We would be far better off skipping past CFL. In a few years, LED will be even more efficient, and has even longer life, and NO MERCURY!

Repeal the law that forces us into CFL.

Candles aren't used for general illumination and it didn't take a law to make the change.

  • @Reichlk1 WRONGGGGG !! Many CFLs dont last as long as you and your moron greenie friends claim they do. I have MANY incandescents in my home that havent burnt out in a few years. i've had cfls that havent lasted a whole year. Think b4 u post my friend. CFLs look like shit and they dont work in all areas of ur house. i cant help but to laugh at u, thinking that ur doing something for ur pockets and planet by turning ur house like the inside of a shopping mall

  • this bulb can be put inside your asshole

    watch 1man1jar

  • Haha stupid environMENTAList wackos. They forget to tell you "this bulb" will give your family Mercury poisoning if it breaks. I did enjoy the scenes of thousands of cars being driven and buildings being lit up at night, though. Hurrah for the Industrial Revolution!!

  • That bulb might save dogs, cats, forests and monkeys. But it also is carcinogenic, prone to starting fires. If you love mercury poisoning then be sure to buy that bulb.

  • that one chick looks like she has "cock sucker lips"

probably left over from last night?

  • Don't you love Hollywood Casting Couch Whores

who will say anything for a buck?

  • This bulb can't play zyglrox like a bulb I know....

  • @XXxESPxXX

    hahaha FUCK YEAH periphery ftw

  • The bulb can help save the plant but we need to do alot moreto save the plant. The bulb is good if it is diposed of properly. If inproperly it may do alot more damage then good considering that one of the bulbs main materials is mercury.

  • Big lie, they make electricity for free using Tesla Technology.

No green house gases, just Chemtrail Barium

  • Great video, the light bulb is the gateway to broader environmental action, that first simple action people can take to save money and use less energy. Once people start changing bulbs they go to make more positive changes.

  • That's a bit vacuous, no? I have always turned off lights when not using them, used 40W rather than 60W where sufficient, drive a small car, take the train, ride my bike...

But I don't like poisons like mercury when there are other solutions. I don't like the gvmt telling me what bulb to use--I can (and do) ration my energy just fine without them.

Furthermore, fluorescents really give me a headache. Went to the library today and had to leave after 20mins.

  • 9. A significant portion of the polulation get hedaches or triple vision when reading for more than 5 minutes in fluorescent light. We actually disable the fluorescent bulbs in our offices and put in incadescents. Why force everyone to use something that is unhealthy for a significant protion of the

    8. LED is easily used in a dimmer. CFL requires expensive replacement of dimmers.

  • 6. LED technology will obsolete the mercury CFL, but it may take just a few more years before the cost curves cross. Why are we forcing a very bad public health policy (incandescent ban), when with just a little more time, a much better solution will manifest naturally. Again, people quit candles without being forced. It just made sense.

    7. LED technology does not emit UV light. CFL does. Paintings and fabrics are damaged by UV (and fluorescent light).

  • 4. Distributed mercury in the atmosphere is much less of a public health threat than acute poisoning due to broken light bulbs. This idea that CFL mercury is good for you reminds me of urban diesel buses. "Oh, they save lots of fuel and reduce emissions." True for the suburban people downwind, but the poor guy at the bus stop or walking the sidewalk gets spewed with direct soot. His personal pollution level is increased a thousand-fold.

  • 1. Mercury is a poison--thermometers are banned, mercury silver alkalines banned. Consumer CFL is completely inconsistent with this sound public health policy of reducing mercury in the environs.

    2. Coal-fired mnercury emissions? Go to the source. Scrub them out of the stack gases. That is the only way to actually make a dent in Coal-Mercury emissions.

    3. Energy is fungible like cash. Savings in category (a) allows increased usage in category (b). For instance, buy more gas, or buy more stuff

  • thank God they put mercury in those bulbs. Lying sacks of shit - shut your stupid mouth before you post, and learn more about the LIE you choose to believe before spewing your Kmart grade thoughts into the world.

    moron!!!

  • Thank you, I win..

  • Alex your the moron here. Stop making such a fool of yourself and just give up the debate here. You need to understand the new way of life, and that green is here to stay. Get rid of your wasteful lifestyle and start using your brain that is what it is for you know.

  • STICKEDU face it, in reality, MOST ppl will not properly recycle CFLs and more mercury will kill the planet. How u figure thats saving the planet?? Cuz mayb ur a moron?? The worse thing to having incandecents is that ur light bill goes up. With the cool light quality incandecents give, to me its worth it. I"m not gona be the goverments pet, LIKE U and buy what THEY THINK is rite for them. By all the stupid comments u've made, u proved that u dont enjoy freedom. If thats the case, leave the US!

  • noreaga you neocon fool, I hope government catches you with your dirty little bulbs and destroys your collection while you watch. I cant wait until they ban big stupid trucks too, and every thing else big slobs americans like yourself use to kill the environment. Lazy fat slobs, all you care about is yourself, you dont deserve freedom cocksucker

  • aww @ STICKEDU... did i hit a nerve? The only dummy here is U. I understand that ur a moron but i'l try to explain myself as clearly as i can so u could understand. CFLs contain MERCURY, NOT BECAUSE im saying it, because its true. I know ppl that have accidently broken these bulbs, and not being aware of it, he vacumed the pieces and got sick. He didnt know that vacuming it causes mercury to fill the air. He went to the hospital and doctors told him he has mercury inside his blood stream....

  • @stickedU what will freedom matter if they keep banning everything? you're sad and closed-minded. Open your eyes man. The environmentalists were suckered into lobbying for the whole plastic bag thing, "No more paper bags!!!" Yeah and that went great huh? Don't be a sheep, look into this stuff for yourself and then figure out what is really good for the environment, and it ain't mercury bulbs.

  • @theonlyDougBlack you shouldnt pay any mind to STICKEDU. Shes severly brain damaged thinking that cfls will save the planet. With all the toxic stuff thats in these bulbs, they will do more harm to the planet. Common sense. We need to restore freedom to the US. My advice to u is to keep stocking up edisons. I have enough to last me a life time. The government and all these eco friendly morons can kiss my ass if they think im gona use shitty lights in my house.

  • The ban is not going to include candleabra and appliance bulbs, and floodlights you morons. Keep wasting your money on stocking up, there better bulbs out every year. I just hope the police will catch you with your illegal stash of old dirty bulbs once the ban takes place. I hope somebody will turn you in. And yes, this is now the way it is going to be in America get used to, socialism is superior. MORON!

  • For all the dummies that are in favor of the ban shouldnt be living in a country with freedom. U should move to a communist country and have the government tell u the lifestyle u should live. And as usual, u have morons like "STICKEDU" who really believe that changing a CFL will make the planet cleaner and greener. How is the earth being clean with mercury in these shit bulbs? How are we suppose to lite our refridgerators with CFLs?? CFLs and cold dont mix. MORON ALERT!! MORON ALERT!!

  • not a good comment. Think about it, and re-post. :)

  • SALTYWATTS.. sounds to me like ur another dummy whos in favor of the ban.. and for what?? CFLs save energy but they also contain mercury. MOST PPL will not properly recycle them once burned out. that means mercury will fill the air. How is that saving the planet?? secondly, congress should encourage us to save energy, not force it on us. Not sure what country ur livin in but nobody has a right to tell americans how to light their homes. If u wana live with out freedom, get out of the USA.

  • nobody is forcing anybody to do anything. LIght your house anyway you see fit. WHen the technology catches up, the new products will be so superior, and efficient, that you'll have more time to focus on other important things.

  • SALTYWATTS u have no idea what ur talking about. U need to educate urself a bit here. Heres one issue about cfls. CFLs dont do well in cold. So explain to me how we're suppose to use our refridgerators once Edison bulbs phase out. I guess im gona start using flashlights to see what food i wana eat or what i wana drink. Once energy efficient incandecents come out, CFLs will be history. Unless they can improve on it.

  • lol. you could get you one of those snazzy shake and bake led flashlights. They work pretty well, they're cheap, and hey, they are green too!

  • @SaltyWatts lol you are a moron tree hugger.. talking about ""THEY ARE GREEN TOO"

  • @SaltyWatts its not a good post because the truth hurts u :D

  • This Penis

  • i got them all through my house, they don't last as long, so can't really save you that much money because they cost so much to buy!!

  • What an enormous mistake!

    1. these bulbs DON'T last longer

2 They contain mercury & require new laws for cleaning up if one breaks

    3. They are mostly made in china, without US standards

    4. SINCE WHEN IS IT THE GOVERNMENT"S RIGHT TO DICTATE YET ANOTHER DETAIL OF OUR LIVES!!!??

    5. The jury of world science is OUT on whether global warming or cooling is actually occuring...and our energy use is agreed to be almost untraceable in the picture!

  • This debate should never exist you fools.....the government already passed a bill banning all Edision Light Bulbs by the year 2012. CFLs will soon be the only choice, get used to it and stop bitching, unless you stock up on old ones.

  • Not if I can help it. I am starting a grass roots movement to REPEAL the incandescent ban.

  • Yes changing over to CFLs will save the world, I've commented in some video of this same crap content of the flawss of CFLs and I just can't be asked right now, I'll let all you little CFL Supporters beleive this crap because essentially that's what it is

  • how can you prove this statistic, as an electrician the discussion about fluorescent lighting causing cancer seemed to cease and we now push it into homes as well as offices. lighting makes up the smallest load in a house installation. stoves and cooking would be a better approach. where are the warnings about the mercury content in the lamps and the appropriate disposal?? if people are worried about their babies and everything we would not be creating another asbestos situation for our kids!!

  • Ambientalist idiots!

  • Wearing inexpensive condom so that retarded women don't queef out children will save the planet more than mercury bulb.

  • sadisticjesus : Having sex with retarded women is federally illegal. Go somewhere else!

  • Has everyone lost their ability to think? What happens 10 years from now when we have to throw away all the mercury contaminated light bulbs, is that supposed to be progress?

If you drop them at home don't tell anyone or Haz Mat will quarrentine your home or part of it.

  • 3 years from now, there will be no mercury inside them anymore. UN is looking into a bill to ban mercury from CFLs by then.

  • Somehow I don't feel any better knowing the UN is going to be passing laws for me to abide by.

    X - X - X <---- Good-bye freedom. It was fun while it lasted.

  • ......... it's a regulation for CFL manufacturers. Are you a CFL manufacturer?

  • The UN should keep its business out of our light bulbs and go back to pretending to be peace keepers.

  • propaganda.. it won't save anything, people will use that electricity anyway. and pollute their homes and nature with mercury.

there is still no adequate affordable replacement for incandescent lightbulb

  • 1:12

this lightbulb will help save his people!

  • The average person in America , will get in their Hummer to go buy these bulbs , then stop by the Tanning Salon on the way home.

  • Reverse the effects of global warming, but at the cost of nercury poluting our atmosphere, which is MUCH more deadly than Co2, which is blown out of proportion, because almost all life on Earth is Co2 based.

  • @LithiumHammer Hey guess what! Mercury is pumped into the atmosphere by the coal burning power plants that power your precious incandescent light. By using CFLs you will actually reduce the amount of mercury that is released into the environment because of how much less energy they use, even if you throw the CFL in the trash! People should also know that they can take CFLs to places where the mercury in them is properly disposed of. A little knowledge goes a long way.

  • @idontcare80

What a crock. cheaper light will simply lead to more use of it. Same with cheaper gas (we get bigger cars and more driving) better insulation (we get bigger houses). The ONLY way to reduce energy usage is to RATION it which obviously cannot happen because we are not a Totalitarian state (yet).

Get the real facts. Look at published energy consumption data and you will see that when costs go down, usage goes up! Total cost is the limiter--so CFL will not reduce emissions!

  • @vibratingstring I didn't see your other comment before.

I don't know about you, but I don't think about how much energy my lights are using and use them more or less based on their efficiency, I just turn them off when I don't need them.

I don't agree with banning incandescents either. I one day hope to have an off grid home and the benefits of CFLs become almost nonexistent if the electricity isn't coming from coal.

I don't agree with your other points either, you just need to learn more.

  • @idontcare80

I'm sure you do agree with LEDs being preferable from a health and environmental standpoint.

    Three items not discussed.

    1. Mercury has to be mined and processed industrially for the purpose of making these fluorescents. That is a significant environmental problem but because the Chinese are doing it, we don't seem to care.

    2. All the Coal that Can Be Burned Will Be Burned. Don't scoff. You think China is going to stop?

    3. Stack scrubbing can work for mercury.

  • Im sorry but why does every fucking comment talk about how these lightbulbs and global warming affect America. Your not the only people in the world you douches. And as for that senator, Im not from America and even I know that hes on the payroll of power companies. I support these lightbulbs and reducing consumption.

  • Think about it, no self-respecting (greedy) investor (whos only interest is in making as much money as possible at any cost) is going to promote a product that once sold gives no more return (I.E. CFL bulbs) not when they could promote the old style light bulb that needs to be replaced constantly and requires 5 times the electricity, electricity that they get to sell you, increasing their profits significantly.

  • Sometimes a more advanced technology like the CFL bulbs do not get promoted by the existing industry because the old technology makes bigger profits, despite the fact that the new product would be much better for the consumer.

  • The world is dying.......you worry about a bulb.

  • There is no such thing as Global Warming. Look up Global Cooling in the70's how people thought the planet was going to freeze.

    A 100 watt bulb running 10 hours = 10 cents

Your not saving much anyways, the people in this video are so dum. I will never again, buy one of these bulbs.

Socialism, the goverment is taking away your guys freedom. Fight for it, start going to the tea partys, it is the only way to show the goverment how mad we are by standing in numbers.

  • "There is no such thing as Global Warming"

    Idiot...

  • We will see who is an idiot when the planet starts to cools to the point that no one cares about global warming any more.

  • It's not about saving energy and the environment. it's not about reducing global warming and greenhouse gases. It's about having the Federal Government to regulate how much energy we can use as well as how much water we can flush. That's their problem, not the ordinary light bulb.

  • Sometimes a more advanced technology like the CFL bulbs do not get promoted by the existing industry because the old technology makes bigger profits for them, despite the fact that the new product would be much better and CHEAPER for the consumer. (The money that stays in your pocket does not end up in theres) and they do not like that.

  • Why don't they tell you that the CFLs are made in China and normal light bulbs are made in Kentucky? Look on your box of light bulbs! So not only will the CFL hurt the demand of our USA made light bulbs, the tankers from China they ship them on burn a huge amount of oil. They don't tell you those CFLs have mercury in them and the EPA has a 15 step process to clean up the light bulb if it breaks! Check the EPA website. Wake up people! This is big money special interest at work!

  • Your propaganda sounds like old style light bulb manufactures and electricity producers walking hand in hand helping to bolster each others profits. So tell me is your salary coming from an old light bulb manufacture or an electricity producer? Or (God forbid) you are just one of their many stooges, following along like a good little lamb.

  • No I'm a certified public accountant, and I don't have any light bulb clients :). You have your government and Hollywood pushing you to buy the Chinese bulbs and I'm the lamb? You are on the side of the sheep my friend. I was at Home Depot to buy bulbs when I noted mercury was in them, then I looked at where they were made, I will not buy a CFL b/c our trade deficit with Chinese is already the largest in the history of mankind. You choose for yourself but don't take you gov't word for it.

  • The EPA is coming after you!

  • I like it warm. Since the fascist government is banning incandescent bulbs in the next few years, I'm going to buy a couple of cartons of good old name brand incandescent bulbs from the local dollar store, where they're roughly 38 cents in bulk. I'll stockpile them for the rest of my life, and while you leaf-eaters are in a cave staring at your harsh swirly abominations, I'll be bathed in the warm glow of civilization. Just think - I alone cancel out every Hollywood nutjob in this vid. Huzzah!

  • Now that's funny! I too am stock piling The Edison Bulb and hate the light wave horrible emmisoin from the liberal bulb

  • Most mercury vapor inside fluorescent light bulbs becomes bound to the inside of the light bulb as it is used. EPA

estimates that the rest of the mercury within a CFL about 14 percent is released into air or water when it is

sent to a landfill, assuming the light bulb is broken. Therefore, if all 290 million CFLs sold in 2007 were sent to a

landfill (versus recycled, as a worst case) they would add 0.16 metric tons, or 0.16 percent, to U.S. mercury

    emissions caused by humans.

  • Don't break them or they will release toxic mercury. I use CFL's but I use regular bulbs where there is a risk of breakage such as small table lamps, trouble car lights, or around pets and kids that could knock them over.

  • @KnightRider64000 Why not just use the CFLs with the plastic covers? Nearly all the lights in my home are CFLs (I have one LED) and none have ever been broken, even with two rowdy toddlers.

  • I can't believe that Nat GEO is even airing this crap!!!! I guess some would call this more of the NWO Crapper Crap!!!!

  • It's all about the Federal Government regulating how much energy we can us.

  • Sell it with sex! Idiots believe this ! They are so so poisonous that they will pollute 1000 times more than a single incandescent bulb. Such bull

  • FYI "Global Warming" is not man made according to 31,000 scientists and counting

  • Global Warming is a natural process. But man-kind is quickning the process of warming Earth.

  • And if you overlap the two graphs that Al Gore uses in "An Inconvenient Truth" you'll see that CO2 levels lag behind global temperature, shattering the entire global warming theory. Watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle"

  • Man. I am glad things do change. Lets get real. How would you like to be driving along at night on a highway and hit a Dinosauer in lieu of a rabbit? Give me a break! Ask the people in Williston North dakota about global warming.....

  • Es una muy buena Campaña. Felicitaciones !!!

F-YOU NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, LIES LIES LIES, I'LL NEVER WATCH YOUR SHOWS OR READ YOUR BOOKS AGAIN. LIARS

  • National Geographic does not lie but sometimes it over dramitizes. GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL.

  • BULLSHIT, THOSE BUBLS ARE 100 TIMES MORE TOXIC, LOOK IT UP, senator "forgot his name" brought this up in congress, it was on cspan, the video is online, i will find it, and video response it with my other profile cuz i think i have it favorited.

  • it's been proven these bulbs are highly toxic, if you break an energy saver the proper cleanup technique is to open all windows air it out, do not inhale any dust from it, clean it thouroughly, air your place out for a few hours and then clean the area where it broke thoroughly with gloves, they are highly poisonous to all living organisms and humans, way worse on the environment, i cannot fucking believe National geographic supports this when there has already been senators dat brought this up.

  • it's proven those bulbs use more energy than regular bulbs
