Great Lucinda song. She knows the terrain well. I've never been to Lousiana but thanks to LW I feel like I know it through and through, in every dark honky tonk and on every dusty road.
this was written about a fellow 'singer-songwriter' named Blaze Foley, he lived on the street, kept all his thing together with duct tape in Texas, notorious drunk, even made an entire suit of duct tape to perform in, he was shot on the street in Texas, trying to protect an elderly, disabled homeless. Known as much for his kindness and philanthrophy as for his music and duct tape. "Drunken Angel" was also written about him, at about the same time!!
I love this song.I think many people can relate because so many of us have lost a dear one that way. Thank you to lucinda, wherever your playing, for putting our hearts to such a beautiful and poetic expression of words and music.
Listening to this song reminds of driving through Louisiana in the dark with my windows down.. Her voice and lyrics makes me recall the smell and the wonder of that great place. She is an enormous talent. I saw in her West Palm Beach, Fl about ten years ago and her band was stunningly tight and the guitarists with her on that road trip were as good as any I have ever heard - live or recorded
No one can touch this woman. Sorrow in every note she sings no matter what she sings. Anyone who has lost what they loved most in this world--this song says it all.
first heard this listening to outlaw country on sirius xm. glad i was listening at that time because i probably would never have known about this song
@Leogibson21 just wonderin, was it Don Imus that was DJ the first time you heard this, he was a huge champion of Lucinda's and always played her stuff even B4 she was recognized by anyone else?
8 hours and $40 later we had a bowl of chili. Clyde was a story all his own.

"In those long last moments, indeed." Beautiful song about a beautiful soul who didn't cope too well with this world... I will always miss Clyde.

Lucinda is magic. Her songwriting is fantastic and she's a great, if oddball, performer.
