That penalty shot from the 1994 finals against Richter is so legendary that they throw it on Bure's highlight and he didnt even score. 1994 finals was the best. Got me into hockey, and I've loved it ever since.
I love watching Canucks Powerplays in the 1990's, Linden would give the puck to Pavel in the corner, he would go around every d- man on the PK, and pretty much go in on a breakaway, even though its a Powerplay. Just Pure Skill.
@nevermore, yes admittingly he did have a way of so called hanging, but it was his speed and quickness that got him through some of the best defensemen, including Borque, Coffey, and countless other defensemen. He was the by far the most exiting player of that era.
He dominated a gritty clutchy North American style game. For a little guy to power through people like that with such speed in feet and hands. I wish we could have had a chance to play in the modern nhl. who knows, maybe the modern speed might have neutralized him a bit. no i take that back, his hands would have been freed up to uleash fury.
OH man... The goal at 3:25 was tragically started too late. He grabs the puck in the Canucks zone and fly's up the ice for the finish.. I would do bad things to see that goal in it's entirety
@wg390 Let's call it what it is, hockey, and both teams usually get away with dirtiness every now and then. I think what both sides will agree with is how awful international officiating is.
@skydome29 Well said. Even the classiest of players will throw a cheapshot once in a while. It's just part of the game. But yes international officiating is awful. Besides that I think the NHL probably has the best refs in all of sports. Sure they miss calls once in a while but for the most part, they get it pretty dead on.
@skydome29 Well what rules are you talking about in particular? Rule 48 is kind of a joke, along with the fact that anytime a guy gets leveled with a big hit, and appears to be injured, they eject the other guy. It's not perfect. But better than any othe sports.
i wish his career didn't end so early. he had such a great impact on me as a kid watching him play. made me want to try new things on the ice and want to just fly.
No doubt. the most explosive hockey player of all time. More electrifying than any hockey player even playing today. Including Ovechken is explosive as well but Bure was even more faster than him. Ovechken has a better power game.
Bure is the single Greatest Russian born of all-time. Every time I see him blow by a defender or use that unbeleivable head fake on the breakaway my spine tingles. He makes me wish I was a forward and not a goalie. I idolize him even being a Goalie just for his sheer determination, clutch performances and finding ways to succeed when things arnt going his way
Bure is something a lot of us in Vancouver won't forget, I was there for his first game 1991 and his last game in 1998. He was the guy that made me and many others want to go to the games to see what happens and witness his goals.
Ovechkin will never have back to back 60 goal seasons. Bure had 150 goals in his first three years if it wasn't for injuries he would have had better seasons than that.
@acmilan93333 theres no comparison.... bure does it all... ovechkin is just a beast... but bure...he is datsyuk/fedorov/fetisov/kasatonov/makarov/krutov/larionov/malkin/ovechkin... he is the ultimate russian player.. just amazing seeing him from ice level.. especially when you get a pass from him into an open net!
i pretty much agree with that. I've seen some great players, heart plus size - Linden - Natural sniper Naslund - Pure talent and excitment - Bure. No one every made me stare in silence and awe when he scored more than Bure. Bure literally made me shake my head and say " wow.. that was like a whole nother level "
what a great palyer. I brought me out of my seat several times. However I still keep in mind the way he turned out when He left Vancouver, only the money was mattering to him. God he was spectacular
