  • This is so typical for Oscar Wilde! His style is very pecular, in a good way, of course!

  • I really didn't expect to see JEREMY BRETT on the first second I pressed play in this video. NOW I HAVE TO WATCH THIS :D

  • What ugly, ugly necklaces! A gang of robbers should come off the street and hold everyone up! But imagine if those were real diamonds what they'd be worth. Interesting that Jeremy reminded me of someone and I get it now. The actor who plays Carlisle in the Twi series, Peter F . . . He really does. Huh./ The politics of society. I can't take in what all of that meant. Going around from party to party . "The idle rich." And the hair. Wow. Thanks for this Shakespeare. :)

  • Dang! He is soooo cute! Sorry, fangirl moment! :D

  • Good god, Jeremy Brett is so *attractive* as Lord Goring - so young and fresh and absolutely air-headed. <3

  • Barron Arnheim* was a Sith Lord!

    *spelling...

  • I must get this,

  • Hey! Does anyone know if this version of the story is avalible on DVD or something? Thanks in advance! :)

  • It is indeed - on BBC DVD. Order it at amazon.co.uk. It is a truly stunning transfer - one of the best I've seen. Everyone involved must've been so proud of this.

  • @MrsDelle. It is a part of the "Oscar Wilde Collection", easy to get.

  • "Oh, I wish I'd stayed away longer, I love being missed."

    Jeremy is very missed <3

  • Jeremy Brett=Sex! xDD

  • The best version yet! ;D

  • I have it on DVD "Oscar Wilde Collection".

    I LOVE it!!!

  • It makes me wonder why accuracy in period costume for film didn't really become more important until more recently. I've found with these period films of the 1960s and 1970s, they were starting to get a little closer but still so much flaw, hidden influence by modern style here and there.

  • dose anyone know where one might get a dvd copy of this movie

  • I love finding Jeremy Brett in these kind of roles. He always looks great in the upper class suits. The script in this is great.

  • curious, isn't it?

jeremy brett was also sherlock holmes...

and rupert everett (another lord goring) was also sherlock holmes!

  • Another curious thing: Jeremy Brett was also William Pitt the Younger.

& Benedict Cumberbatch(another Pitt) will also play Holmes.

  • @dauradet When I heard that voice I had to look for watson. Best Holmes ever.

  • Susan Hampshire is always very charming...

  • "The only possible society is onesself"... XD Noone could deliver those first few lines like dear Jeremy...

  • Wow, Sherlock certainly looks very smart in here! I half expected him to say - "AHA! Watson"!!

  • "And self-sacrifice is a thing that should be put down by law. It is so demoralising to the people for whom one sacrifices oneself. They always go to the bad." - Though it sounds nice the whole play is completely what the great German philosopher Nietzsche called decadent or even The Last Man; quite an awful thing to witness and even worse knowing that such things appeal to oneself... a sort of being tired and a desire for rest, a wish not to be anymore or to stay forever in the land of dreams.

  • That beginning speech had me in fits of laughter! But it's strange how Jeremy always makes the strangest dialouge sound good. Could you imagine anyone else saying, "I don't think I quite like this second button hole, it makes me look a little too old" ?

  • agree! :)

  • I got to do this in Drama =D

  • it's sherlock holmes

  • Thank you for uploading this programme. It was really very thoughtful of you. I like British programmes.

  • A Spanish dub dubbed into Spanish?! Oh my! What are the odds of that?

  • I mean I don't want that Spanish dub because it IS the Spanish dub!

  • JB forever!

  • Ohhhhhh. Jeremy Brett!

  • These days our speech much like our cuisine pales in comparison. We digest crap both physically and mentaly and Regurgitate it back out!

  • Too true!

  • This abridged version leaves out some of the best bits...

  • Ahhhh, I love his "Mmmm" at 9:46

  • OMG, Oscar Wilde was way way way way ahead of his time.

  • I love Jeremy Brett!

  • Is this friggin Masterpiece Theater or somethin? LoL! Good Vid!

  • Susan Hampshire! Yay! Jeremy Brett was why I wanted to watch this, but what a nice surprise to see her, too. Many thanks!
