I remember when my husband and I were living on GFAFB and I thought I could walk to his work to get the car when he was out on a missile site, my nose hairs froze and the tears in my eyes started to freeze! Spring lasted about a week, summer two months, and fall another week. Then the long winter would start again. Every year we were there, there was a blizzard on halloween. I came from Long Island, NY and suffered severe culture shock. Everyone made fun of MY accent!
i love the cold weather... but i had to move to GA when i was ten, and my mom tries to make me where a jacket when it gets below 50... once it got to 7 degrees here, and the city like shut down... it didnt even snow, and then it got up to like 48 that day, i was so pissed!!! but i'll be able to move way up north b4 i know it
when it's -30 degrees Fahrenheit, it isn't that bad, because you just get used to it. When I went to school last winter I couldn't feel the cold at all after some 1.5 km of pedaling.
-30! wow the coldest temp ive ever been in was 4 degrees! then again i live in great falls so it doesnt get that cold up here.....but we always get ice storms. the last1 we had wan in jan...we had over 8inches of ice!!! we got off for over a week! PS: weather channel rocks! PSS: i love your vid 5/5
I lived in Grand Forks AFB as a kid between 1994 and 2000 and on Jan 31 1996 it got down to -42f! The high was -18f that day, WITH THE SUN SHINING! It can get really C-O-L-D up there....I remember school was cancelled that day too! I live in hot Alabama now but will never forget my days up north!
Although this was the coldest it got during the winter of 2006-2007, it's not even close to how cold it's gotten in other years. Temperatures colder than -40, even -50(F), aren't completely unheard of in this area of Minnesota and North Dakota.
Back during the record-breaking arctic outbreak in 1996, I remember recording a WS4000 on a TWC local forecast displaying a temperature of -52°F. Unfortunately, I either lost the video or recorded over it.
That's just SOOOO cold though! I cannot imagine a winter that bitter. Are windows there made of plexiglass (probably incorrect spelling) because I'd imagine -30 would bust out glass windows.
There are actually plenty of places with glass windows, and I've never known anybody who's experienced a broken window. You're usually told not to hang anything on windows over the winter, though, because there's a chance they could crack. A bigger problem in this kind of weather is frozen pipes. This can be a particularly messy problem because as water freezes, it, of course, expands. You take a pipe filled with water, freeze it, have it expand, and eventually it could cause the pipe to burst.
COLD!!! People here in the Bay Area complain it's so freezing and ridiculously cold when it gets down below freezing, lol, that's nothing compared to this!
its bad enough when its below 50 for me

We had that last Christmas and the temperature was *above* freezing :O. The water leaked directly into the kitchen light socket above the table.
