@vatan1923 the 335i starts with 306bhp and easily tunes to 370bhp because of it's turbos. This 335i has a Vishnu tune so it's not 300bhp (nor ever was it if you want to split hairs). Also the M3 is actually about 55 kilos heavier due to it's weightier engine. So in a straight line, a 335i with tune will be very close to the M3 BUT the M3 also offers much more (LSD, Better Transmission, Better handling, Bodykit inc. Carbon Fibre Roof, V8 Soundtrack etc.).
Did the M3 driver miss a gear? Looked like he was beat, then came back fast! I think the Vishnu tune goes anywhere from 350hp to about 400hp, depending on down pipes, exhaust, intake, intercooler, etc.

im not saying the 335 is a better racing car as an m3 is designed to race and has better handling, but for 20k less you get a 335 you pay £850 upgrade and you have a super car, on a track the m3 wins but in a straight the 335 has the edge with a DMS chip (as far as our test proved), also chipping a 335 will not hamper the engine in any way as it is designed to take up to 420 bhp its just detuned by bmw on purpose so 380 bhp is fine all day long.
my freinds 335i cab auto, not DCT2008 car, it had a dms chip which gave it 380 bhp and much more torque than an m3 in a straight line i was quicker,0-62 in 4.9 secs this is a fact done it 3 times i was shocked maybe after 130 the m3 may have a slight edge but at 120 i was 2 car lengths clear but ran out of road the m3 is 0-62 in 5.1 secs go check dms automotive they are the best tried and tested yes the 335 is quicker with the right chip,m3 too expensive to run for the sake of an m3 badge lol.

Love this vish1 335 decided to take off early but the tunes for these twin turbo inline sixes is good for low and middle power only as seen here...... The M3 just eat you up and spat you out, just walking past you ....
The problem with a chipped 335i is no matter how much money you spend on it getting it to go faster, it still looks just like a 320d with bigger wheels but without the manufacturers warranty.
I saw an edmunds review of a visnhu mod and it was tested 390WHP. Again, at the wheels and not crank and I don't remember from the top of my head which version it was.
Damn, the M3 holds up against a Vishnu tuned 335i! That is actually quite impressive. I have a 335i and used the JB2 mod for a while and that was great. I'm aiming to sell my 07 335i next year and get an E92 M3. Fantastic!
That is not true. Torque is proportional to power as a function of RPM. You can have all the torque in the world, but without RPM you aint moving anywhere.
although the big mercedes engines (5.5 and 6.3) kick butt and have a lot of torque, bmw and audi like having lower displacement engine ie 4.0 and 4.2 so that they rev higher into the 8,000s whereas the merc engines rev to onl7 6,900/ 7,000
Also, remember that BMW just got rid of their I6 for the M3, and M5 has a 5 liter V10, it's eaiser to "lop" off two cyl and have a 4 ltr. Also Audi was tired of their V6 in the S4 getting beat by the M3's I6's so they up the ante first. Merc's are more straight line bullets, hence the the V8's. BMW wants racetrack balance, Audi the middle ground, and Merc, brutal force. Three diff ways of getting the same result, a damn fast car.
I don't think Audi got tired of the S4 getting beat by the M3 because those cars aren't rivals. The S4/5 is a rival to the 335i while the RS4 is the rival to the M3.
Back when Audi first brought the S4, it was meant to be a M3 rival. But it couldn't hang, so Audi came out with the RS4. Which as you know, the rest is history

The 335i has two turbos standard..... the m3 has none. To modify a 335i to be faster than an m3 you add a chip (JB3 or vishnu V3) + downpipes, a code 3 intercooler and a dual cone air intake

i have an 08 335xi and the previous 7 years i had an 03 and 05 x5, not once did i have any sort of problem. i never changed brakes nothing just oil changes and some fluid flushes. So just because you cannot afford a bmw dont go hating on them and im no kid im definitely older than you

@avidfan185 I wouldn't bother with any nos, its no good for your engine. Especially not a BMW 3.0L Bi-Turbo, Chips all the way 4 me. You can pull around 400+ bhp from a £200/300 chip.
@avidfan185 the only thing is don't drive crazy. the more conservative you drive the longer your parts will last. and if you're going to buy one do not get a higher millage one. If you cant afford new get something with low millage like 20 000km or under or whatever that is in miles. if you get it dont beat on it because if you drive really hard you will end up replacing alot of parts and they are super expensive unless you replace them with like parts from china.

I haven't had any problems with my 335i except for the STUPID STUPID break squeal that the dealership can't fix...and since it doesn't cause any real problems, I can't make them act on it....any one have a solution?
@akburst510 I had brake squeal but that was because of the brakes were wearing out and started to brush on the sensors. Every car has its own problem and BMW has its own as well :)

A V8 has more weight and friction so it needs a little bit more revs to get his smoothness.
max rpm M3 is also 1300 rpm more then 335i

Horsepower and torque are not different measurements of power. Power is the rate of delivering torque (i.e., the ability the do work--i.e., move the car forward). Acceleration, given proper gearing, is a function of POWER, not torque. Torque is good for pulling heavy loads, and you're going to want reasonable torque for a streetable daily driver, but make no mistake--horsepower is what wins races.

Love this vish1 335 decided to take off early but the tunes for these twin turbo inline sixes is good for low and middle power only as seen here...... The M3 just eat you up and spat you out, just walking past you ....

The problem with a chipped 335i is no matter how much money you spend on it getting it to go faster, it still looks just like a 320d with bigger wheels but without the manufacturers warranty.

I saw an edmunds review of a visnhu mod and it was tested 390WHP. Again, at the wheels and not crank and I don't remember from the top of my head which version it was.

Damn, the M3 holds up against a Vishnu tuned 335i! That is actually quite impressive. I have a 335i and used the JB2 mod for a while and that was great. I'm aiming to sell my 07 335i next year and get an E92 M3. Fantastic!

i think the 335 has more torque so you can see it initially pulls away faster, but soon as the speed goes up its all about HP

That is not true. Torque is proportional to power as a function of RPM. You can have all the torque in the world, but without RPM you aint moving anywhere.

What you are saying is partially true...there is a formula relating hp to tq, both are different measurements of power. @5250 rpm, tq=hp.

TQ X RPM/5250=HP@RPM. Something like that. "without RPM you aint moving anywhere". Electric motors are an exception, diesels are low RPM torque.

Was virtually the same as without. I didn't really notice a difference, and I usually drive my car hard.
JB3 was too much, and I didn't care to have that much extra performance. I got the JB2 second hand for nothing.
I still have the JB2 if you're interested.

although the big mercedes engines (5.5 and 6.3) kick butt and have a lot of torque, bmw and audi like having lower displacement engine ie 4.0 and 4.2 so that they rev higher into the 8,000s whereas the merc engines rev to onl7 6,900/ 7,000

Also, remember that BMW just got rid of their I6 for the M3, and M5 has a 5 liter V10, it's eaiser to "lop" off two cyl and have a 4 ltr. Also Audi was tired of their V6 in the S4 getting beat by the M3's I6's so they up the ante first. Merc's are more straight line bullets, hence the the V8's. BMW wants racetrack balance, Audi the middle ground, and Merc, brutal force. Three diff ways of getting the same result, a damn fast car.

I don't think Audi got tired of the S4 getting beat by the M3 because those cars aren't rivals. The S4/5 is a rival to the 335i while the RS4 is the rival to the M3.

Back when Audi first brought the S4, it was meant to be a M3 rival. But it couldn't hang, so Audi came out with the RS4. Which as you know, the rest is history

I think the m3 is better than the 335i because it comes with alot of power from factory and the 335i you have to put a turbo and im guessing you have to change the turbo every like yr or 2

The 335i has two turbos standard..... the m3 has none. To modify a 335i to be faster than an m3 you add a chip (JB3 or vishnu V3) + downpipes, a code 3 intercooler and a dual cone air intake

actually there are a alot. Mercedes and Bmw's older cars are much more reliable than any car you can think of, the new ones are amazing too but time will only tell on their reliability.

i have an 08 335xi and the previous 7 years i had an 03 and 05 x5, not once did i have any sort of problem. i never changed brakes nothing just oil changes and some fluid flushes. So just because you cannot afford a bmw dont go hating on them and im no kid im definitely older than you

Same here. I have a 3 series coupe 04. It's been 6 years. No problem what so ever... When you service a beemer regularly, it nly needs oil and gasoline. Notheing more :p

I agree with you there, we(wife & i) have been loyal BMW fans and have never had any major problems with them, apart from boot release that didn't work a few days after collection , but was replaced asap by BMW.
We have had 2 x 330ci - 1 x 320ci and currently drive a 09 535d M Sport .

@avidfan185 I wouldn't bother with any nos, its no good for your engine. Especially not a BMW 3.0L Bi-Turbo, Chips all the way 4 me. You can pull around 400+ bhp from a £200/300 chip.

@avidfan185 the only thing is don't drive crazy. the more conservative you drive the longer your parts will last. and if you're going to buy one do not get a higher millage one. If you cant afford new get something with low millage like 20 000km or under or whatever that is in miles. if you get it dont beat on it because if you drive really hard you will end up replacing alot of parts and they are super expensive unless you replace them with like parts from china.

I haven't had any problems with my 335i except for the STUPID STUPID break squeal that the dealership can't fix...and since it doesn't cause any real problems, I can't make them act on it....any one have a solution?

@akburst510 I had brake squeal but that was because of the brakes were wearing out and started to brush on the sensors. Every car has its own problem and BMW has its own as well :)

Just too bad they didn't get an E92 M3 vs a Vishnu V3 335i! That would have been an interesting race, probably would have just been determined by who is the better driver. Just one more reason I got a 335i, can't wait to get that V3 on once warranty runs out!
