Although most of the music out there today playing on radios isn't meaningful, there are good pop, R&B songs etc. Actually, the main writer of a famous metal opera called Aina, is Amanda Sommerville, a symphonic metal singer and R&B singer also. ;)

What is the percussion instrument that first starts playing at 2:27, and then has quite a few notes for the rest of the song? It is in unison with the choir at 2:48 - 2:52 and plays 4 notes at 4:13, for example. Sound like a musical anvil or some type of cowbell maybe.

Yes, there are quite a few non-metal bands with Screaming/Growling.

Songs like "Heart Shaped Box" "In Bloom" and maybe "The Man who Sold The World" can classify as Metal

@shasanni Well, Metal has the about five main sub-genres; Thrash, Death, Black, Power, and Gothic (which I don't really consider very Metal, but it still belongs here).

I guess Symphonic is (pretty much) its own Genre. All of these are very different sounding metals and are necessary to classify metal.

@shasanni However there are sub-genres of those which should not even be there like "Blackened Death Metal" which is just very bad Black Metal; Sludge Metal, which is like Hardcore Punk (ugh); Hardcore Punk, which is just punk; Grindcore, which is basically death metal. omg... well anette did a great job on dpp I don't know who I like better with nightwish... but TARJA'S SOLO SONGS BETTER THAT TARJA'S SONG WITH NIGHTWISH??? Tarja's songs are pity... are aweful are...
