A Merk would probably take two or three. The point is that even if the engine is disabled, they can still survive and be rescued.

Yet- this tank already been used in building-area. trust me- it kicked some buildings down. as an ex-infantry soldier i can tell you that generally- you don't want to be in ANY tank. specially not on city-area where you are a simple target. in desert and terrain, tank can go more then 20 km PH and so almost no shoulder-missile can lock on it. unless it's worth 250K. but in a builded terrain? almost every tank is a death trap.
a home made IED consisting of 100kg of tnt, buried under the road will cut this tank in two or more pieces.. not to mention the new ATGM's which can tear-open the turret of any tank..
ATGM's are going to be useless in a very few years. Look up the ZEUS SYSTEM and you'll see why. That technology will be used to defeat anything that flys. There's going to be a new/old battlefield then. No planes, no missiles, no artilery, just Infantry and armor.

The Merkava doesn't use the Chobham armor, it does involves the same technique of mixing ceramic and metal elements but these are domestically made.
In any case, having good parts is one thing, getting it all together is something else, the Merk design is unique, different from any other.

Considering the circumstances, Merkavas did really well in comparison to any other tank in full scale ATGM warfare.

I was a Tank commander in my past (not in last war) so I understand the numbers better.
Some of the tanks that got hit were also, MK2 & MK3 and operated in poor tactics.
However with all the these faults, in comparison the amount of missiles fired (top niche missiles) they did well.

As an American soldier, the Merkava 4 is the best tank for Israel . It was built only in the area for Israel. I know there are others might say it is a failure after the 2nd Lebanon, but they forget, even Israel can learn lessons to make improvements. They do it not to show off, they do it for survival.

@Merkava4rulez I know sometimes next year I will be in Germany for just 3 weeks for my army national guard. One thing I hope is to see the latest Leopard 2A5 or is it A6. Glad that Leopard 2 got some improvements. Better than having the front turret flat. M1s needs to get a different engine for places that don't need for speed.

@Dedfaction Well its the most well-armored tank it the world, so it will survive better against heavier fire than anything else. A anti-tank missile will kill almost any tank. A Merk would probably take two or three. The point is that even if the engine is disabled, they can still survive and be rescued.

Yet- this tank already been used in building-area. trust me- it kicked some buildings down. as an ex-infantry soldier i can tell you that generally- you don't want to be in ANY tank. specially not on city-area where you are a simple target. in desert and terrain, tank can go more then 20 km PH and so almost no shoulder-missile can lock on it. unless it's worth 250K. but in a builded terrain? almost every tank is a death trap.

ATGM's are going to be useless in a very few years. Look up the ZEUS SYSTEM and you'll see why. That technology will be used to defeat anything that flys. There's going to be a new/old battlefield then. No planes, no missiles, no artilery, just Infantry and armor.
