this is a wonderfully edited video here, the themes with fire(orange) go perfectly with Kobashi, he has a fire burning in him to put on a show stopper every.. single.. time. he loves life and the people in it, he gives the fans everything he has. the build up to the burning hammer was amazing as well. like + favorite. long live Kobashi Kenta
It will be a sad day when this man retires. My absolute favorite Japanese worker. I still find myself watching old AJPW tapes, with his 60 minute draw with Kawada being one of my favorites. The sheer amount of suplexes he received would've put most out, yet he still managed to be involved, albeit it rather dazed lol. Thank you Kobashi!
The first match I ever saw from both Joe and Kobashi was their ROH match. When asked what I thought I said, "The man's reputation is just. he's great." Then asked what I thought about Joe I said, "I was talking about Joe....as for Kobashi. that SOB's the best I've Ever seen."
Kenta Kobashi is the greatest proffesional wrestler alive IMO. And if you don't like that, then Kobashi will come to your house, chop the living shit out of you, put you over his shoulders and burning hammer you into the next dimension.
Kobashi only has suplexes??? Sure the half nelson and sleeper suplexes are some of his trademarks but what about..... The Moonsault, the chops, The Powerbomb to the corner post, Orange Crush Bomb, Black Crush Cutter, Vertical Drop Brainbuster, Pump Handle Powerbomb, Release Powerbomb, Burning Lariat, Burning Hammer, Wrist-Clutch Burning Hammer. The man has an arsenal of moves.
He have also done Powerslams, steam rollers, various armbars, vaulting body presses, etc.
And it's not only about how many moves you can do. It's about how much skills you have in basic mat wrestling...And Kobashi got a lot of skills in basic mat wrestling, he's also a good storyteller in the ring (Just watch his match against Akiyama in 2000 and his match with Misawa in 1998), He's one of the best.
@ThePrivatePenguin First of all, Dave Meltzer from the Pro Wrestling Observer gave him these awards. He's widely regarded as THE Wrestling expert in the world and getting Observer awards in Wrestling is like getting an Oscar in Hollywood. And yes it's about opinion wether you LIKE a wrestler or not. But it is simply FACT, that Kobashi is/was one of the greatest workers in the wrestling business and had some of the greatest matches. You don't have to like it, but it can't be denied either.
Only fools believe that their opinions can be used as true facts. Is there a list that says Kobashi is one of the greatest workers in the wrestling business? No, thats just your opinion. Theres no fact based on what you saying. Let me tell you what a fact is. Facts is that some puroresu fans doesnt have any clue about wrestling. They think japanese wrestling and the japanese wrestler are non-plus-ultra because its so "stiff".
Dont get me wrong, i have nothing against puroresu, but just because japanese wrestling is far stiffer then american or any other wrestling, doesnt make it far better. Get over it. Some people believe just because Kobashi or Misawa have such a huge moveset and do so much moves in the ring theyre better then any other wrestler in the world. Wrestling has something to do with storytelling, what a story you tell in the ring etc, people who judge wrestler because of their moveset have no clue!
And a great example here would be Bret Hart. I know some smarks who say that Bret Hart was overrated and boring in the ring, because he doesnt had a huge moveset like some japanese guys. ( Kobashi, Misawa, Liger and more)..
@DerFlaechenbomber You contradict yourself here a little bit. I too believe that wrestling has to have good storytelling in a match. But that's exactly what Misawa and Kobashi were so great at in the 90s. That's what the whole Kings Road style was about. A great story building up to an exciting finishing sequence. As a matter of fact, the most complains I've read about their matches by western fans is, that they actually don't use that many different moves aside from strikes or kicks.
@DerFlaechenbomber actually Bret used almost more moves within a match then those guys. And don't get me wrong: It was not my opinion that I made out to be fact. It was the opinion of people within the business. People who earn their money with the knowledge to tell apart good from bad wrestling. If they say someone is good, there must be something to it. I don't think that every 5Star Match that was ever rated deserved it, but I acknowledge the fact, that it was good even if I didn't find it...
@DerFlaechenbomber ...overwhelming. For example: I don't like Bret Hart matches that much. I find them hard to watch because I don't like his style as much as I did when I was young. But I DO acknowledge the Fact that he is a good technical wrestler and a good seller and that he worked flawless most of the time.
Okay, i respect that, thats your opinion. But what i do not respect, and also dont understand, if people say Bret Hart was overrated or boring in the ring. Thats bullshit. Harts philosophy was to tell a story in the ring and 10/10 would do that and no matter what size his opponent was he would get the best out each and every time. And look at guys like Owen Hart, Austin, Nash Bulldog etc, they all had their best matches, because they worked with Bret Hart.
Also i often hear that Bret Harts matches and the finish sequence were all the same. Well the only thing i say to that is downtuning. Thats just normal WWE/WWF downtuning. Its not different today. Bret Hart was never overrated, the fans knowledge of wrestling in the states or anywere else that is overrated.
@DerFlaechenbomber I actually feel a little sad because it almost seems that Hart's talent went a little to waste because of lack of competition in WWF. He had great opponents in Bulldog, Hennig, Michaels, Owen and Austin. But apart from that? He had to wrestle clowns and dentists and other BS charakters for most of the 90s. That reminds me that I still haven't watched Hart's Match against Misawa, when WWE and AJPW had a crosspromotional show...that should be interesting.
Yeah i know that he had a match with Misawa, Misawa wrestlet as Tiger Mask. Bret Hart also had a match against the first Tiger Mask (Sayama) in japan. You can watch both matches, theyre no classics for sure LOL but you can watch them. BTW: I watched your profile, are you german?? Because me too.
ThePrivatePenguin, you need to do your research, Kobashi is the perhaps the best wrestler ever, better then Ric Flair andeven better then Ricky Steamboat. He's also won the Best Wrestler of the year award twice, in 2003 and 2004 so don't even say that Kobashi just does the same 2 moves over and over again because he is truly a legend. Run back to whatever promotion that you like and get lost because us wrestling fans hate fans like u who think that they know it all when they clearly don't!
what people need to understand is that just because you wrestle in japan dosnt make you the greatest wrestler ever.heck, the great khali wrestled in japan.kenta kobashi is good, but is far from the greatest ever.
all wwe fanboys need to watch Kenta Kobashi matches in a locked room clockwork orange style for 48 hours - then they will see what a wrestler is suppose to be. Kobashi = best wrestler ever - period.
You're kidding yourself. WWE fanboys rather see pretty boys make kissy faces and walk through the curtain with really bad music and then talk for 20 minutes. They rather pretend these artistic innovators are actually lesser to the PG rated clowns of today. American Pro Wrestling is the worst it's been in a long time. Get the shovel.
i tend to agree - there is no hope for the wwe fanboys. Kobashi had a good time in april during the global tag league in NOAH - he will have one more run with the belt - what a beast - KOBASHIIIIIIIIIIIII!!
I was there live. I've honestly never seen anything like it, and I was probably too young to truly appreciate it. It was, without a doubt, the most emotional reaction I've ever seen from a live audience anywhere, watching anything. Thats not hyperbole, either
Bad News!! A tumour was confirmed in Kobashi right kidney in June.27(size 4~5cm, probably is cancer). So he'll need to accept a surgery to see what's going on with his right kidney. One thing for sure, Kobashi won't appear on the ring for a long long time. After hearing this terrible news, wrestling fans in my country are all in a huge shock. Whether you know him or not, Let's pray for Kobashi! Japanese sports News http://0rz.net/bd1yg
Also... the bit where Kobashi is orange tights does the moonsault and wins, the crowd go nuts, what match is that from? Im presuming something like winning a big title for the first time, I'd just like to see it in full because the crowd look like they're super into it and that always makes a match better.
