  • what type of cpu ?? stock?? aftermarket if so what type? thanks

  • Proud Camaro owner here with mods on the motor, and sadly I'm gonna have to say this :( I think you would kill me in a zero to 60. Love your four banger broski. Keep it workin!

  • MS FTW! Fvcking awesome!

  • you can tell the rice community, we have been doing this since the 80s.

  • what type of turbo u guys using and how big is it??60a/r?

oo plus how big of injectors

  • I love the motor. But why can't we hear it instead of that music???

  • What is that throttle body off of?

  • stock rod supports how many horses?

  • what would it take for you to build me one like this with about the same horsepower

  • Question.

Could something like this be done on a 2.3 in a Ford Escape?

    I'm seriously interested if possible.

  • @puremaplesyrup22 The Escape uses a completely different motor. The one in this video looks like an 80's Lima motor which came in Turbo Coupe's, SVO's, XR4ti's, etc., turboed from the factory. It's a whole different beast. Although the head in this video looks like an N/A head that's been machined.

  • windshield washer tank, pressure switch, and extra injectors?

  • id love to have that in my ranger, haha

  • GAY ASS MUSIC!!!!

  • Hey man what kind of throttle body is that on there. Did you by chance to the 302 throttle body swap? What all do you have to do? Thanks.

  • stock bottom end?

  • i wish there was no music.

  • i want to build my 94 ford ranger with a 2.3turbo. what all would i have to do and would it just be easier to get an svo motor to drop in it?

  • @dlspmp duratec 2.3L LOOK IT UP ON WIKIPEDIA....VERY PLENTIFUL USED IN FORD FOCUS.

  • NP535overdrive, Not true, Most of the serviceable FE stuff nowadays is coveted by restorers and a few class racers. I sold my last 428CJ short block for $2200, a set of 427 lemans rods and crank for $1000, a 64 top oiler 427 block for $650. So unless you're building an old 352, 360 or 390 then you're going to spend way more than 2k not to mention they wont make 500+ HP without a good deal of work and then there is the fact that they weigh close to 750lbs.

  • Had an 81 Mustang turbo years ago, bought it with a blown head gasket. Repaired it with new gasket set, belt, leads etc and remember it sucked through a twin choke weber carb and had no intercooler. It was all or nothing ie flat as a pancake until 3K rpm then the turbo kicked in with large amounts of wastegate chatter. Was never very quick, had huge turbo lag and was really crap on fuel, overall a really shit car.

  • By the way; NICE MOTOR!!!

After seeing this I figure I will most likely use Street-N-Strip to do the final tuning on my '04 Subaru STi and the build on my '86 Merkur 2.3l turbo.

  • id like to see any BBF or even BBC make that kind of power for 2 grand total investment....

Also, this thing will only weigh what, several hundred pounds less than a big block? Stuffing a BBF into the front of a already nose heavy mustang is FTL

  • It would have been nice to here the motor instead of tthat gay music .

  • and im talking FE series...not 460's

  • what a fucking waste of time and money. you can get that same output froma ford big block v8 for about $2000

  • and maybe switch to the computer from the mustang svo??? may have to switch a few wires around...

  • Comment removed

  • i think thats alsome power for a 2.3 with a stock botom end. that would embarres a few v-8s!

  • How much would it cost me if i asked u to make me one of those?

  • Piece of shit.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm an old school v8 guy, currently in my garage sits a sbc crate in my corvette. Let me tell you this: that 2.3 ford is by far the best little engine we've ever had. We have race prepped 87 fox body mustang. No, it doesn't have the 5.0 anymore. It has the 88 tbird tc engine and it is lighter, punchy, and can race all damn day at 4,000 to 5500 rpm without fear of destruction. All you haters need to build and race a 2.3. You'd then understand.

  • Good God!!! That is fucking awesome. Definitely will be giving you guys a call when I get my project back to vegas.

  • Piece of shit.

  • stock bottom end is minor. by the time you buy all the turbo, computer, injectors, tubing for the turbo, waste gate, etc... you could have put the best bottom end known to man in a v8, and still be WAY ahead in cost. I appreciate horsepower in most any form, but your argument doesnt hold any water. yes you made a lot of HP and thats pretty sweet, there are just way better ways to do it, without sounding like a P.O.S. ricer!

  • @69CRUZR ME PERSONALLY I WOULD WANT A 302 BUILT NATURALLY ASPIRATED AND LOBEING FROM WELL THAN TO EVEN THINK ABOUT A FORD SOUNDING LIKE SHIT

  • @95zracing and how much does your v8 make? and show me a v8 that makes 1500hp on a stock bottom end, that gets 18 mpg with a 5800 stall and 4.56s.. or just one that make 1500hp on a stock bottom end..

  • @fast2300tbird - The Ford GT... The Ford GT actually had the record for the stock bottom end at 1700+hp. You said name one I did.

  • @JayGeePee1

I have to agree with you, the 5.4L is pretty insane. But either way, Ford ftw.

  • @fast2300tbird its called an ls-1.

  • @95zracing

Why are people like this? Horse power is horse power. REAL car people don't care how ya done it...as long as ya done it. I don't care how many cylinders or what kind of fuel. Power is power and thats whats cool. I don't care RWD, AWD, 4X4 or FWD either. Performance is performance. Why can't more people just respect each others preferences or keep their bloody mouths shut? envy...thats why...envy.

  • @Ropinlizard Right on. Well said. Lots of yuppys in the world.

  • @afrothunder78

I agree, Another thing, if someone is gonna be a hater, why not challenge somebody to a race? If my car wins...then show respect. If your car wins, I will do the same. But if someone can't back up their argument, then nobody is gonna give an ear to them. I stand by my other comment.

  • @95zracing 500 with a 4 is good and shut the fuck up v8s arent allways good

  • @MyGta123 Yeah this comin from some dumb fuck with POS ranger in a dirt floor barn with open exhaust. Ok smart guy your the man bahahahaha BTW (Nice truck) LOL

  • @95zracing oh just wait till i get new videos of it you wont be calling it a poss anymore

  • @95zracing wheres your videos at tough guy

  • @95zracing horsepower is horsepower no matter how you get it

  • It used to have better music, and you could here the dyno runs, but youtube fucked that up, so oh well

  • Get rid of the fucking stupid music! BAHH!!!

  • But it doesnt have a place on youtube without the stupid soundtrack....

  • I was just disappointed because I was excited to find a video of this build. Kinda hoped to hear it run and not be annoyed by cruddy tunes. Oh well.

  • im looking too do the same as Boss3512

  • Alot goin' on in there!

  • KOOL!

  • I got some questions. Im building a 2.3 turbo for my turbo coupe. I was thinking ported and knife edged upper and lower intake, bigger TB, head work, arp rod bolts, bobs log header, t3/t4 hybrid turbo. Now would it be safe to do a .30 over bore with the turbo? I want 22 psi out of the set up so its safe to DD, and I also want to not have to run a standalone ecu yet. Comments, and suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

  • .030 over will be fine. you can do what you have listed and "get by" on the stock ecu, but your going to want to get a wideband at the very least, and back the timing down, then slowly put it back in. I'd really look into getting somthing to tune with, your going to be shooting yourself in the foot for at least 30hp by still using the vain air meter, not to mention the tune isn't going to be close to optimum.

  • ok say I wanted to set up to mega squirt cause I have access to a dyno here at school to tune on. What would be the ideal set up to get a good tune on it, and what mods should be done to the fuel system to support it? Thanks for answering so fast!

  • @fast2300tbird .Hi,hey what you thinks bout put a turbo in a 93 mustang 4cyl 8plugs 9-10 psi what you thinks?Plez letme know THANKS

  • I have one - the head will take some but not much. Most likely you need to at least replace the old head gasket - so pull the head - - and think - this thing had two plugs to foul not one -

  • @fast2300tbird

is this about the power limit for these 8 valvers with methanol?

With a 16 valve head and more boost u could maybe get into the 1000's like them old bmw turbo f1 engines-1400bhp from 1500cc.

  • Ahh the music gets in the way of the delicious sounds of the engine!

  • whats a better high rpm engine? 2.3, 3.0, or 4.0?

  • the 2.3 by far, no always, (obviously) but its typical that the smaller engine would be better for higher rpm becuase of lighter and less internal moving parts. Im sure that holds trues with those 3 engines anyway...stock i think they all redline around the same area, but the 2.3 can be build to crank out higher rpms easier then the 3.0 and 4.0 could.

  • thanks

  • The machine says "0" horsepower. Where's the beef?

  • it says 0 because that is the current HP, and when the pick was taken the engine wasn't loaded

  • @RTFLDGR your an idiot

  • @GEARHEADGUY92 You can't even spell correctly and you are calling me an idiot? L for loser.

  • @RTFLDGR i know i suck at spelling.

  • I know that a guy out in Las Vegas has an SVO with 500 hp for atleast 6 years now and only put ARP rod bolts in the bottom end.

  • stock short block with arp studs? im not discrediting that, but how long has it/will it hold boost. the rods have always been the weak link in the 2.3 if thats due to bolt fatigue then you just saved me some serious coin.. im not sure if your at liberty to say, but what exactly is done to that beast?

  • the stock bottom end will hold 25psi with just a ARP rod bolt upgrade. Hell Im running 15 psi on my completly stock turbo coupe right now, just re routed vac lines and, FREE BOOST.

  • not a bad song

  • I kew had have meth injection not exactly pump gas.

  • IMAGINE THIS VIDEO WITH NO MUSIC!

  • 0 horsepower. Never heard the motor. Saw a red hot header. Lousy music. Come on now, you are teasing us. Show us and let us hear a 2.3 dyno pull. Show us the HP.

  • Thats what im thinking....I need to hear it.

  • dude i live just down the rode, next to the moose-lodge camp ground , i have seen some sweet cars just parked there.

  • what was the point in adding music????

wtf? is was a hell of alot better before hand when you could actually hear the motor..

    oh well

  • I had to change due to copy right laws

  • it was better in the first version.

  • yeah, youtube made me change the song with there software, which made it loose all the engine noise, pissed me off! I thought about changing th music on my end and reposting it, but there are so many links to this one.. we'll just have to wait a few more months and I'll make a video of it in the car.

  • cant wait, amazing what youve done with it

  • Great video, if you could only hear the engine.

  • I wish I could do that to my 2.3 SOHC, But it costs way to much, If I did my Ranger would fly down the road

  • it doent cost that much, not anymore than any other motor

  • imagine what it would do with a real head!

  • I never seen headers glow that Hot!!!

  • awesome, now put it in something lol :)

  • beautiful

  • im building a similar project and i was wondering, where did you get the adapter to mount the TB on the lower intake. i ported my lower and would like to eliminate the upper. that is an insane motor and i better see some vids of that thing in a car soon! lol

    awesome job!

    jeff

  • lol thanks man, i made that adaptor. I had some 1/2" aluminum here, I made that to fit the tb, and cut the original lower to the height I wanted.

  • Is there a significant benefit to eliminating the upper plenum?

  • i love the 2.3 lima but please throw that linkin park cd in the trash.

  • hahaha

  • Im really sick of this fucking song. Nce 2.3L.

  • nice car...but i cant seem to find aftermarket parts for these cars.. can u tell where u can find some....

  • i know where you can find them :-), send me a message and ill point you in the right direction.

  • thats a beastly 4 banger, i have a 2.3L in my 87 ranger

  • my 74 pinto wagon has a 2.3 in it but not turbo.. i would like to make it turbo but my friends tell me its a waste of money..haha..

  • The Lima 2.3 is one of the best 4 bangers in the world. Way ahead of it's time.

  • It's a solid design, but it was outdated before Ford ever hung a turbo on one.

  • Yeah, I think the Germans invinted it in the early 70's. Also, didn't Ford use it in the Pintos?

  • too bad it has since been outdated by the duratechs.... 20+ year technology in today's age is no good. Single over head cam and no head options except of course for the monopoly run by esslinger. Don't get me wrong I link the 2.3 but real race parts are grossly overpriced.

  • hey great job man! crazy with the stock bottom end though we use billet 5.7 rods and a knife edged 2.5 crank alot less power about 250 but way more rpm 8,000. but seriously thats gnarly 585hp outa that thing.

  • yes stock bottom end out of an 85 turbo coupe, i reconditioned the rods, and replaced the stock rod bolts with arp one. its all about the combination, and tuning.

  • Stock bottom end? what are the specs on the cam? Any head work (port and polish)?

  • yeah stock bottom end, custom cam profile designed by street-n-strip, lots of port work, still using stock valves.

  • What is the max lift and duration of the cam? Hydraulic or Solid Flat Tappet? With that much port work, you would see even better results if you enlarge the valves to 1.89" intake and 1.59" exhaust and open up the valve bowls more as well.

  • Yeah i know, the point behind the build was to make as much power with as little money as i could. the bowls have been unshrouded, i did all the work my self. the head flowed very very well with the stock valves. I'm not goin to talk about the cam profile, its a custom dual pattern cam that me and my cam guy came up with, I work @ street-n-strip.

  • Alright. Does the profile work better than any other? Or have you tested other cams?

  • When you say 441 lift, do you mean .441 inches? And slider would be the 'flat tappet' or slider followers? And that would be maximum right? If no, just say no, there is no need for explanation since you already stated that you don't want to talk about the profile.

  • yes .441 lift, and slider followers, and yes thats @ maximum lift. I've tested some different cams.

  • Stock turbo bottom end? How are you running that much boost?

  • your correct, I wouldn't say its maximum though.. I think that the ramp speed is close to as high as the lifter can take. you can run a higher lift though.

  • ok I am officially jealous :)

  • Nice Numbers.

  • Pure Sex right there... sickness!!!
