Cracking wee tune..... I first heard this song when I went to college with an awesome dude who played this song on guitar and sang it fuckin grand. That was years back... and now I remember it! ^_^
@Kawamura2 I'm not sure which rock format US version you're listening to, but Fiddler's Green is German, and has what I think might be the definitive rock version of this song.
Also, I performed this recently with an ensemble consisting of a 300 pound linebacker monolith of a drunken Scotsman, myself on fiddle, and a drummer...the big guy told me "I don't know what this is called, but I know that I'm drunk" before jumping up on a table and belting it out. Fun times.
@Erinmn If only I could. I do love my country, but i have no blinders on when it comes to how much America fucks things up. I'm patriotic, but not blindly so.
How "patriotic" is it to say America fucks everything up? You "love" your country but say it fucks everything up? Married? You love your spouse but he/she's a complete fuckup?
Sounds like you're actively blind about my country...
@Erinmn For one, the two have nothing to do with one another. If i were married, no i wouldn't think, or especially say, that my partner was a fuck-up. But, then again, I don't have to be completely blind to their faults either. I do love my country, but i have major issues with the government here. If you want to be blind, that's your issue, But I have issues that make me a second class citizen in this country.
@Kawamura2 It's an analogy. You simply can't say you love America and call her a complete fuckup. Sorry, you don't love your country. I don't care whether you do or don't but I'm calling you out on saying you love something that's a complete fuckup. Projection much?
@Erinmn I'd love for them to be fixed, and I donate to causes that help them to become fixed, I try to do my part, but if my government doesn't think i deserve the same rights as everyone else, why the fuck should I blindly follow what they say? Call me a fool if you want, but if you are willing to stick your head in the sand, you're the fool, not me.
@Erinmn America does a lot of things for other nations. What does it do for it's own citizens? Almost jack shit. Our health care system is abominable. Oh, sure, we have a few nods to socialized medicine, but you have to be almost dirt poor or homeless before they will help you. Gays in this country do not have the right to marry their partner legally, and share the same benefits straight couples have. These are just a couple of the problems our "Great" nation has.
@Kawamura2 Have you used socialized medicine anywhere else in the world? I'd suggest you give it a try before you bitch about the US and the best health care in the world.
Gays can marry, just not each other. Get over it. If three people love each other, they can't marry either. Get over it.
Here's the deal, mate: you don't love your country. It doesn't care, but you need to realize that you don't love your country. So what? Just don't claim to.
@Kawamura2 Oh, and whatever happened to JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Are you a child that the government has to take care of you? Grow a pair. What does the US do for *you*? Well jack shit if you should be taking care of your own damned self. And you should.
@Erinmn I believe in what JFK said. However, there has to be SOME give and take. I love my country, and the principals it was founded upon. I don't love my current government, and the bureaucratic bullshit and red tape they make people go through just to fucking survive. Whilst I agree, people who can work should work, and people who can care for themselves should, there ARE people who, for whatever reason, cannot, and the government SHOULD see about those people.
@Erinmn I know too many who fall through the cracks, and can't get adequate care because the American medical establishment is a capitalist, for profit business, and if you can't pay, you can't receive adequate medical care. I'm sure other countries have their problems with socialized medicine, but our country is in dire need of it. No system is without it's problems, but a socialized system doesn't have to replace what we have, but it would enhance the quality of it.
@Erinmn So, before you run off at the mouth about how I should respect my government, and be blindly patriotic to a government that couldn't give a shit about it's citizens, why don't you come live here. Become a naturalized citizen. Because when you do, you will see things a little differently.
@Kawamura2 I DO LIVE HERE. I love it. You don't. Whatever.
I'm not asking you to be blindly patriotic. All I'm trying to say to you is that you don't get to say you love the US. You just don't. You don't like the US. So what? It's the most giving country in the world with the most freedoms (or at least used to...) and you don't like it. Whatever. Grow up.
Actually, this song was written by Andy M. Stewart of Silly Wizard - it isn't a traditional song at all. This IS the origenal song by the origenal group.
Great song. Reminds me of many happy piss-ups when I was at Aberdeen University. It especially reminds me of my mate Fiona, She used to dance her arse off when Silly Wizard came on.
This song is so completely awesome. I've heard the Sons of Maxwell version, and well good, I like this version better. I think I like the more traditional sound better. :)
Don't forget to 5 star it, dunno how an awesome song like this got such a low rating, must be some nerd with too much time on their hands 1 staring every day.
This is indeed a picture of Silly Wizard - at the SW Reunion concert at Celtic Connections January 07... All of Silly Wizard is present, Phil Cunningham, Gordon Jones, Martin Hadden and Andy M Stewart - except for the late Johnny Cunningham. Other artists joining them onstage: Iain MacDonald, John McCusker,Duncan Chilsholm and others. This was a brilliant moment for Silly Wizard fans, as well as all fans of celtic and Scottish music. Oh, to have been there.....
ahhh thanks for that, then i can possibly change where i said it probably wasn't an image of them hehe. I am pretty new to Silly Wizard, i have only heard a couple of songs, but i absolutely love what i have heard.

I love silly, their lyrics actually make sense, unlike all our modern celebrities who just drool lust onto a piece of paper. Wish there were more bands like them out there...
