don't know what you are refering to, but what they are doing is called 'half-swording'. by griping the blade and hilt, or by gripping the blade with both hands and using the cross guard as a 'hammer' one can dent, or in some cases, penatrated an armored helmet.
absolutely beautiful harnesses... Modern germany has some of the best period armourers in the world. fitting really as they did in the period too. nice techniques.
@MrSantiago0789 what are you on about? hammers and blunt weapons were used throughout, but for different purposes. Have you ever heard of "crush" damage? It can be more deadly than a sharp cutting or puncturing blow. A hammer hit to the head may not penetrate the helmet but can cause bleeding on the brain and instant death. Clawed hammers were introduced so that you could kill an armored soldier through the breastplate, they were not only for helmets.
@ranpleasant Thank you. We really had much fun - and I am very grateful that Daniel Jaquet agreed to assist me as my dummy here. (Sorry for the sprained knee.)
This is excellent--very well done. So few people seem to get halfsword plays, but you guys captured the exact sense of the joint locks in these two plays.
The sallet with visor is the coolest looking helm ever.
Agreed?

@Eso1 Hammers and other blunt weapons were before the shinning armor (full plate armor).
