Any person who plays a stringed instrument, fretted or not, can learn a pile of technique from Mr B. He's also a really fine guy. He once signed the inside of my hat, so I could keep his music on my mind. Gave the hat to a hairless friend one winter, but never gave away my appreciation for Bob and his musical goals. Power to the man.
I've tried many times, and i repeatedly fail to see what is so fascinating about Bob Brozman. I'm not saying he isnt talented, but to me it all seems very technical modernist rubbish, with no feel... no actual blues feel. Also, it's almost like a 'mish mash' of styles all crammed together, and in my opinion it just doesnt work. I dont find any of his music listenable. I'm much more at home with the real blues players of the 30's and 40's.
@jeffers2093 He says "And I don't care if they say "Hey, hey hey. Mateus rose is not fit for human consumption."" Mateus rose being a wine, not a very good one either. lol
I LOVE THIS!!!! The Freight & Salvage is such a cool place, too. If only I had been more than 1 year old to catch this amazing performance... lol If Bob ever gets back to America though, I'd love to catch a show of his as I have yet to listen to any of his stuff online that doesn't sound absolutely incredible.
@loveisthequestion1 Erm, just a small question: why do i see you hate on Bob on multiple videos of him? Here's come advice: if you REALLY hate Bob's music so much, don't waste your time listening to it and leave it be. You will feel better, trust me.
@dekoene91 can i give a suggestion of an answer? a person that woud deeply dislike a musician, would certainly not spend that much time spitting hate on his videos, and make personnal attacks. But Bob is not just a musician, he's also a deep intellectual with strong and honest beliefs. Now, that's something that attracts much of what is called "trolling" on the net. Weak and narrow minded ppl always bark like the small dogs when confronted with such individuals and ideas.
I'm seeing him live next week - got tickets front center stage! Can't wait!
PS: sorry, couldn't hold back... people like Brozman and Steve Vai aren't just guitarists, they're musicians. Artists. They've taken their craft to a whole other level to the point where they speak through their instrument.
PPS: you don't have to be a dirt-poor black person from the depression era to have "lived the blues" or to "feel the blues".
great performance. so glad i found this guy. i think he encapsulates some of the pure blues feeling that the oldschool bluesmen like robert johnson had, and at the same time utilizes a unique technique. furthermore, how freakin cool is his slide and his beating on the fret board??
Saw Brozman open a couple of gigs for JGB back in 1980. Billed himself as a Guitar Maniac, Thought he was awesome and always wondered what happened to him. He can pluck some strings,
he doesn't have the strongest of voices. but thats not the point. he's one of the greatest folk guitarists of our time. and he'll be known for years and years to come. but, he does have a lot of great qualities to his voice. i've heard much much worse. perhaps some people prefer britney spears.
@aaronzack14 dont be an asshole just cos someone doesnt conform to yr language. the world doesnt revolve around you, you freakin capitalist . you gonna tell brozman not to sing in french?
You know the blues DID NOT BEGIN with muddy waters.
Check out what the blues were like b4 they moved from the delta to chicago. Listen to robert johnson, son house, bukka white, blind willie johnson and perhaps you'll feel a little embarassed at those ignorant comments u just made.
He just sounds a bit weird, he's actually quite a good singer - never really out of tune, and can have very nice expression. He was fucking great all round live.
I have to agree, he lacks soul in his voice, and he definitely hasn't lived the blues - (probably upper middle-class upbringing) - but he CAN play that slide like very few I've ever seen!!! Pretty friggin amazing... he's earned props from me on that!!
Bob is a beast there is no other way to put it. He loves his fills and frills, but that's his style and I respect the heck out of it.
Besides, in live performaces I'm pretty sure the greats from times past played up to the audience and pulled out tricks from their bags when they wanted a certain reaction from the crowd.
Mr. Brozman does his thing and does it very well as far as I'm concerned.

Precisely. The early blues masters were primarily farmers not technicians. Don't get me wrong because Bob is great at what he does, but he's not a traditional blues player.
I don't get what's the hype, he's a below mediocre blues player trying to fool you with cheap and out of tune tricks, while making pseudo intellectual comments of what music is. Just another weakly marketed Seasick Steve.
You are amazing person.

depends on your description of better. technically he is amazing but his style is not my favourite

Anyway, thank you for posting the video!
