Nadal sucks indoors, 1 indoor title his entire career. He just can't simply play with the big boys on indoor surfaces where the attacker is the favorite.
Absolutely agree with deveed. Who believes that is just tsonga who made good points that deserve to be included in the highlights video of the match and therefore nadal's points are just tsonga unforced mistakes is just blind. This video is just not fair showing how much even was the match at the first set, and second set nadal's superiority.
Nadal is becoming a great trainer of the guys in the tour ... nice short boaring topspin ready for them to smash it back on his face .... sometimes on their backhand and sometime on forehand ... he is training them very well
Tsonga was unbelievable with his racquet skills especially at the net. And man, it is tough to overpower Nadal who hits the ball hardest among the men players. Tsonga did that consistently in this match, served consistently and was unafraid to go for winners.
I was surprised to see Nadal net shots that he always hits for sure winners. He is certainly not at 100%, either in mind or body. Consistency is his forte, which was lacking. He showed flashes of himself, but in patches.
There was an experiment on the best tennis players a couple of years back. I remember only Fed, Rafa and Nole's results. Nadal was hitting the ball on an average 10 MPH harder than both Fed and Nole and he also had considerably higher topspin. Don't know if that has changed in two years, just goes on to show that power is important in modern tennis, but if you are skilled with the racquet you can do good with some less power too!
This guy was the first to show the world that Roger Federer can be beaten on 'Grass'. He singlehandedly prevented men's tennis from being a monopoly, and right now the competition is too good. Tennis will lose its prince if there is no return of the Nadal of old. This guy is a gem, and we need him firing on all cylinders for a fabulous 2012 Tennis season. Nadal is a fighter and I hope he bounces back. Vamos!
Sorry but don't agree. Nadal is a champ. I am and always was a Fed fan, for his artistry. I thought, and correctly too, that Nadal's game requires supreme fitness and physical endurance. Unlike Federer who glides across the court and is superbly balanced in his shots. So, when Nadal had operations on both knees in 2009, I thought Fed's nemesis' days were over. But he bounced back phenomenally the next year winning three slams including US which I thought he'd never win.
come on man. give the guy his due. i'm also a fed fan and used to be irritated with nadal's defensive style of play. but he has improved tremendously since then and can hit some jawdropping winners.
nadal won US because he developed a killer serve which gave him a lot of easy points on his serve.
that added something to his arsenal that the better hardcourt players couldn't counter in the tournament.
sorry dude.. if only boring defense can get you 10 grand slams, i'm sure there are many tennis pros out there who would like to try that..
from my perspective, nadal's game is very physical.. so when he's not in the best of form he won't look good.. fed's game would look good even when he's losing, because his racquet skills are out of this world..
but nadal is a fighter and a great champion. he conceded that fed was better than him in the round robin game.. see he's humble too..
Well then as I said most tennis pros would love to be boringly defensive, as you make it sound so easy :)
You are entitled to your opinion, but I would say give the guy a break. He has stopped the Greatest tennis player ever from winning 10 grand slams and make the tally an unbelievable 26! He deserves better words from us.If we can't respect him, let us not belittle his achievements.
@Deveed411 If you check out the highlights of the french open finals of 2006 and 2007 you'll find it very similar to this video.Federer hits several winners. Most of the points that Nadal wins are errors from Roger's racquet. These points are very small and don't make good viewing for highlights. But these errors are brought about by Nadal's relentless groundstrokes in the previous rallies which "are" shown in these videos.
Sometimes doping is not enough and Nadal is crushed.

@lokenath123 The reason Nadal won US open is because the courts were slowed down... again.

@lokenath123 Oh yes it can, because 6 of those are on clay, and the other 4 are on surfaces that are much slower than they were in 1980.
