When they asked trainer Nazeem Richardson who was the GOAT,he said I dont know but I can tell you my favorite fighter was Lopez, when in his prime he was almost the perfect boxer, superb defense and offense.
otro guerrero azteca mas que pasa a la inmortalidad, tal vez de los 5 boxeadores mas tecnicos de toda la historia del boxeo mundial, librede escandalos y ademas un caballero dentro del ring.
@adanjunior Ricardo was a far better all around fighter..Samon was far from a punching bag....he complained that he had issues with the weight. I didn`t believe it as much, but when he moved up and beat Humberto I was convinced
According to Finito, this fight was one of the few where he openly attacked since Saman was that kind of fighter who create a bump wherever he landed a punch.
"This guy will destroy me if I don't finish him soon", so he finished him soon.
@yllibotiv He's working as a tv commentarist for "televisa" in mexico.. and otherwise he handled his earns as a boxer very well... so he is doing it very good.
Finito one of the best fighters in the world to my opinion. Not for nothing but i see a lot of similarities between finito lopez & Juan Manuel Marquez. They are both trained by Nacho Beriztain so maybe that's the reson why. I love the way Finito changes stands n confuses his oponents. He makes it seem so easy to do and he's so smooth with his punches. Viva Mexico los mejores boxeadores del mundo
Finito Lopez was the last great fighter that Cuyo Hernandez made, Nacho Beristain took a lot of the way Hernandez train hes fighter, like with the guard real high and stuff like that. After Hernandez was dead, Tiburcio Garcia became hes trainer and then Nacho Beristain going the team.
Thank you for posting this! I read about this fight, but never saw it.
I remember after the fight happened, Ring Magazine (or perhaps a sister publication, like KO) did an interview with Lopez, in which he said his arm was injured by a punch from Sorjaturong (Lopez then said Sorjaturong hit *very* hard). I kept thinking about that interview leading up to Sorjaturong's PPV fight against Humberto Gonzalez (and thus while many did not know who he was, I was not surprised when he KO'd Chiquita).

For those Ippo fans out there, Lopez is supposedly the inspiration for Ricardo Martinez.

Sorjaturong eventually won a world title against Humberto Gonzalez. He was no slouch. Lopez still blew him away.
Yeah Finito almost lost to Alvarez, but keep in mind that Finito had the title for 8 years prior to that match!!

Great fighter, Lopez was overlooked because he fought at straw weight and jr. flyweight, but hardcore boxing fans appreciate his skills.

kalaslsl 2 years ago
A lot of Lopez's fights that I have are in Japanese or with Japanese audio (international broadcasts), so I assume this one is as well.
sean163686 2 years ago
Yes, it is reported in Japanese. The 2 Japanese commentators kept saying how perfect Lopez is.
"It is very hard to find weakness in him."
" He 's really cautious,so never pushes himself even when he knows it's a chance to rush, as long as a risk is still there,he doesn't chase too far"
