I had the same problem with sand sticking onto the items.

I now have a variety of dog toys, light plastic buckets, empty plastic bottle, anything that will land with one side up and out of the sand, so it can be easliy picked up by my horses :o)

Very cute! I know that with my mare, she won't pick things up as easily from the sand as she will in her stall. I'll have to try something like that dumbell that 'sticks up' from the sand a bit better!
