U.S. no doubt is a very powerful nation, but they need to keep in mind--and I presume they do--that IRAN is not IRAQ or AFGHANISTAN. man I used to love military forces when I was a kid. I thought that every evil can be stopped by force (armies that is) and then 9/11 came and I saw the true nature of man. I grew up in that period and learned that WAR is the evil incarnated. Why wont people listen and stop produce weapons. Why all this fighting. U.S. no doubt is a very powerful nation, but they need to keep in mind--and I presume they do--that IRAN is not IRAQ or AFGHANISTAN. They are better armed and better trained and very committed to defend their homeland. If U.S. lost almost 5,000 personel in a country, such as IRAQ, which all they had as weapons was a pile of old junk and an "army" that desintegrated in the first two weeks of the invasion, their loss in IRAN would far exceed that number. Unless, of course, they don't give a shit.

@crmarquet While I agree in general with you, that Iran is much better equipped and trained the reality of the situation is any war with Iran would probably be determined by Air Superiority. Aerial defense only reaches so high, bombs can be dropped well above any conventional weapons range with the possible exception of laser devices. A war with Iran would be air strikes on the nuclear facilities, Iraq proved democracy dont work in the middle east when forced by outside parties.

The implicitness in that statement is that U.S. would use different approach in engaging IRAN. I just hope no such a thing will happen.

@goooooooooooooz Well, we don't know 'when' the drone was collected, and we don't know where, how many eyes, under what condition of alert, or any other circumstance the drone landing was associated with. I imagine once the internal electronics stopped masking the craft, the stealth construction everyone is fully aware of, was not enough to hide it, and then of course, visually, none of that (construction or electronics) meant anything. Would anyone have seen a piper cub going down? Likely.

@Vann7 actually it was damaged. The belly was damaged (according to Iranian sources) and the right wing was completely seperated (it was put together with tape for the video). You can find high res pics of it if you click on the first link of the google search: "rq 170 drone analysis"
Also an Iranian engineer gave an interview about how the drone was brought down. Google it and you can find the info.

It is the capability and mode of use that matters in a weapon not the date of design. Btw just because for exmpl B52 is a 50s design, doesent mean the ones that fly today are still the same standard! I think you see that.

@S300V Yes. I agree with what you are saying. However, I do not think that Iranians will be able to use them with the correct capability and mode of use. To do those things, you need a lot of talent. In the past 300 years, Iran has not shown to be capable of such a thing. In the last 300 years, they also have not attacked any other country. Their experience with warfare is very limited.

@S300V I do not consider those 8 years a war but a skirmish. Both were third world nations with third world armies. Iran will be able to conduct a good defensive war against a third world nation. But if we Americans attack, they have zero chance against us. We are a nation that defeated Germany and Japan! What is Iran? At some point, there will be a war with Iran. @shasha1873 Well it was a conventional war in all respects. It is often compared to WW1 in terms of human losses. Large air operations(with fighters, attack helicopters, heavy bombers), mass infantry attacks supported by artirelly, ballistic missile attacks, chemical warfare. I wouldnt call this a skirmish. Also the US didnt defeat Germany alone! While Japan was only defeated with the use of a weapon of mass destruction! Furtehermore, USA is not in the condition it was back than.

@shasha1873 Iraq used both Tu-16 and Tu-22 bombers in the war. Well since WW2 both the economy and the structure of its military changed. Today USA is the largest market, but not the largest producer, so its more and more reliant on foreign countries. It cannot just be in itself and do whatever like back than. Its military is now a paid professional army, that limits its manpower. Also during WW2 a so called war economy was implemented, this would be impossible now with all the "american dreams"
