First of all, it is very sad this had happened to any major city across the world. Therefore I don't mean to comment political incorrectness on this video. However, SF needed a major wake up call. The reason is, SF tends to feel that nothing can ever happen in their city. Whether if it is a major freak accident, natural catastrophy, terrorist attack, etc. Trust me, I used to live in SF. Glad I left!
This could have easily been caused by a mechanical failure or equipment malfunction. Oil company is quick to blame the pilot and get the charges filed before the investigation is completed. This stinks to high heaven.
Blunt force from crashing into the pier openned the container.....by ripping it. Oil poured out through the gaping hole. I'm surprised that more didn't spill. I'm also surprised by the "auto harp master" video. Two tragedies....hopefully no charges will be filed in the auto harp case.
Oh, I see...Thank you. Well, then, this guy was the PILOT and not the ships' CAPTAIN. He would have been more familiar of the navigation hazards in the bay.
Techklec, unfortunatly the PILOT only comes aboard to help guide the ship into a certain area. The reason he does this and not the captain is because he is supposed to be intimately familiar with the port/bay. He is responsible for the ship and where it goes.
