wow... they speed up way too much when the drums kicked in. that drummer needed a metronome or something. other than that... pretty great version of this song. i mean... because its faster, i don't think she had enough time to develop more coherent improvisational phrases. Still... improving using that unique scale is pretty sweet.

I don't know where the hell I've been. Only discovered Dead Can Dance today and have indulged greatly, everything I can find here. This isn't everyone's cup of tea. Some just won't get it. Personally I love this stuff. Lisa Gerrard is unique and Perry's voice is wonderful, though not heard here. Look up some of Gerrard's stuff. There's a documentary that's been made about her.

Hey, DCD lyrics are not romanian (of course I didn't listen to ALL their songs). I am born romanian and know that language very well, including romanian dialects and etymology. The music itself is quite far from any romanian popular old song that I heard. Many of their songs sound more oriental, maybe indian or arabic.

I am curious myself about the origin of their music and lyrics. They seem to be old and long forgotten songs from various places on earth, found in isolated communities...

They are world oriented more than focusing on a single culture for inspiration. Some of their songs are obvious in terms of culture chosen as subject, but some songs are obscure. You hear everything from Gypsy influence to African sounds. This one is definitely ancient Romanian / Gypsy or something to do with it. The Indian style singing makes the Gypsy style obvious.
